But Saint doesnt it hurt you to see the type of football that were playing .Thats not the Liverpool we know out there .

Maybe ill wipe the cobwebs off my old boots i could have done better than Kuyt today

But no i dont think we deserverd to win

me off , but the way we played did , we were so negative in the first half had no intent to go on attack at all , we should be trying to win for the start not the last 15 mins. We had the players to play on attack mode , gerrard ,babel and yossi could have done a good job is we went on to attack from the 1st min , but all we did was taking attacks from blackburn.About kuyt , today we saw him playing in a strikers role , i thought he would finally prove his worth and will be looking like a real striker then a headless chicken , but was i wrong , he looked even worse.Our best strikers currently in team is torres and crouch , they should be played more often when fit. I just don't understand why Rafa does not want to start crouch.

Btw the return of kewell showed what we were lacking off , world class wingers . He came in and changed the game gave creativity and balance , let us all pray that he stay fits till the end of the season.

If we are still playing this type of football by Christmas I will be very surprised Nanny, once Torres and Agger are back we wont be as stretched at the back and will be able to stretch teams a bit more up front. My worry is that it may come too late. We desperately need some home form to get us over this slump.

I think Rafa will get the cheque book out at Christmas as well.

As for the football, yes I am disappointed but I don't think we have many options with the forwards we have available at the moment. When your forwards can't score your only option is playing it tight.

"He is a fantastic worker and he gives a lot to this team. At least he's getting in the positions to score."

I agree Nanny we didn't "deserve" to win though of course we could have in the last fifteen minutes or so. I suppose I'll get accused of being wise after the event, but my suspicion is if we had gone for it a bit earlier (maybe the whole match or is that just me being silly?) then we would have won the game.

The couple of fairly obvious points which came out of it are firstly that if Torres is injured, then Crouch offers significantly the most out of the other three strikers. People can bang on all they like about him not being "good enough for Liverpool" and they may have a point (I don't think so but there you go), but he is certainly a better bet than either Kuyt or Voronin. I have no idea what is at the root of his fallout with the manager (and to think that three weeks ago we had people on here denying there was any such rift), but whatever it is I hope there's a really good reason for not picking him. On the face of it his non selection is utter madness.

The other thing is, and I've been saying this since the Arsenal game, is that maybe we have to re-asses where we are this season. To be brutally honest, I think a sustained title challenge is unlikely in the short term and when push comes to shove, a draw away from home against a team which is currently above us in the league is not a bad result in itself. Those who are saying we wasted a chance to close up on Arsenal and man Utd are of course correct, but in the overall scheme of things it's looking like the first priority is that we get ourselves firmly into the top four.

Y'know, I remember a while back listening to Gab Marcotti on radio whilst he was rubbishing us saying " rafa won't win the premiership."
Of course there was the impassioned defence from loyal fans, but what he was saying was that Rafa won two titles in Spain with Valencia whilst boring the pants off everyone in sight.
My first reaction was to disagree given what I'd seen his Valencia side do to (our's and) Houlliers Liverpool a few years back, however having seen the direction we're going in now, I kinda understand here he was coming from.

The other day I watched a video of the 4-3's with the barcodes-the difference was vast in terms of the type of football that was played.
Rafa now has us set up soooo deep and guards against the counter attack with so many players that we very rarely (if ever) outnumber the opposition in their own box, the strikers usually have two men to beat and it's only usually Gerrard of the midfield who get's 'forward of the ball'.
It's this caution that's hurting us as much as the confidence of the players and the sooner he decides to turn the boys loose, the better for us all.

Question - is it fair to say you looked a more dangerous side when you sent Crouch on.
Rafa - we had Harry Kewell and Gerrard so we had more offensive players on the pitch

Question - Has Crouch done enough to cement a place against Besiktas.
Rafa - we have Voronin who was missing today so we will have more options against Besiktas

I didnt see much of that Valencia side but if looking at the way we play it wouldnt surprise me if they were some negative side. Similar to those George Graham Arsenal sides.
