A mistake? Have you seen him playing? He is far much better than all the strikers we have.

I think I'd like to see Tevez and Torres, youth on their side and ours! :D

Owen is a no brainer.  Three words to describe him.. Class, Class and Class.

People who are hung up on the fact he left for Real Madrid and then went to Newcastle need to know the facts and put yourself in his position.  I'm not going to explain (again)!

9 million... thats 2 million more than we payed for Crouch. Now I like Crouch, but come on.. there is no comparison.
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

As for injuries, even the healthiest players have bad patches with injuries and some of them last for years, but for that money, and bearing in mind what I saw of him both in liverpool and in Spain, I'd sign him up too. One of the best strikers I've seen in a pitch live in the last decade.

He's at Newcastle, the centre of footballing injuries. We have to hope they didn't do any permanent damage

Last season he played for us he scored 16 league goals in 29 appearances. Even if you don't allow for rests etc then he missed only 9 games (1/4 of a season roughly)

Says who? You. If he has a get out of jail free card/clause then he's going to choose between fat sam and intertotalcrap football with an uncertain future or a number of Champions League teams with whom he also has a realistic shot at winning silverware.

Besides, didn't the FA subsidise his salary? I'd move on simply to get away from injury central (SJP)

I'll have a look at his stats in Spain but I remember they were awesome, the minutes/goals ratio he had was the best of the squad. He was better than Ronaldo (Brazilian) and Raul.

9 million? no, but arent we meant to be a big club? should we be worrying about the difference of 9-15 million?

we are liverpool, its not money, its who is best for the team.

id rather spend the extra for tevez/torres/toni/villa than get owen back. he left us, lets move on. hes got a lot of injuries, ahd a lot of operations.

but he is a good player... i dunno, personally id rather go forward and bring someone new in.

His stats in spain were good, but he came on at times when his pace would cause most harm.

and with his injuries, is his pace the same? coz if it isnt then its just a big risk in my humble opinion

Name whatever feature you want about the ability of a striker, finnishing, movement, dribbling, ball control, whatever, and Torres is a worse striker than Owen in every single feature you mention.

IMHO.

sabre, how can u say that..how many times have you seen him even kick a ball in the last 24 months? 2 years is a long time in footballing years, and thats how long owens been out.

ud rather have owen than villa or tevez or torres or toni or klose if they all cost the same?

Owen wanted to leave Newcastle at the end of the last season, before the world cup. Where did he want to go? Liverpool. I know this for a fact. Can't tell you why, how, so sorry - no sources. But it's true.

Now, a year and only a handful of games for Newcastle later, he's a year older, hasn't won anything in years, and we're in our second European Cup final since he left us. And seven days have gone since Freddie Shepherd challenged Owen to commit his future to NUFC - and not a word.  I'd say if Rafa wants him he's ours.

Owen's not got the pace of old, he is injury prone, and his departure leaves a sour taste. But for £9m we'd be mad not to make an offer. Especially if we could get Tevez for £12m, maybe with Bellamy as a makeweight. £21m for Tevez and Owen, with Kuyt and Crouch there too. That'd do me.

Ideally I'd go for Villa, but he looks too expensive. Eto'o looks a very expensive pile of trouble, and would we want to lose our star striker for a month in Jan/Feb for the African Nations?

ok, we can look at owen in 2 ways:

1: hes a fantastic player, scores goals wherever he goes, is england number one. scored 1 in 2 at his time in newcastle, and only 9 million!!! plus he says hes now fitter than ever

2: yeah he scored one in 2 for newcastle, 7 in 14 games...over 2 seasons!!! So that equates to 3.5 goals a season. he hasnt played proper football for 2 years due to 2 major operations that may effect his game/pace/whatever and we shouldnt worry so much about money.

I only can speak of Villa, Torres, and Owen, the people who I've seen properly. Klose? impressive world cup againt cráp teams, and then nothing in the important matches. The other ones are not known enough to have a decent opinion (only youtube, and scarce minutes on tv without paying too much attention)

And while I'd bring Villa with no doubt, I think Torres is worse than Owen in every aspect of the game.

I know he's been injured in this spell in Newcastle, but there are things, like riding a bike and playing football, that once learnt are not forgotten. Literally.

If the injuries are a concern, then let the LFC medical staff examine him, and take a decission, they're professionals on that. But if I have to give the opinion of a fan, Torres is nothing compared to Owen. Never has been. And he's more expensive.
