LIVERPOOL VS BLACKBURN ROVERS

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

good news:

Fowler eyes Blackburn return Oct 10 2006

By Chris Bascombe, Liverpool Echo

ROBBIE Fowler hopes to emerge from Anfield's shadows and stake his claim for a recall against Blackburn following Dirk Kuyt's injury.

As the only Liverpool striker not on international duty for the last fortnight, Fowler's chances of a return to senior action have been enhanced.

The 31-year-old hasn't featured in a first team fixture since the Merseyside derby, another fixture which followed an international break.

But the Kop idol will be desperate to force his way back into Rafa Benitez's plans having sat out the last five games.

With Liverpool reserves in mini derby action tonight, Fowler may be handed an opportunity to improve his sharpness, although he's also been nursing a slight injury.

He scored on his last reserve outing against Newcastle a week ago.

Benitez will be anxiously monitoring the performances and fitness of Peter Crouch and Craig Bellamy tomorrow night, but he's traditionally rested as many of his international contingent as possible on their return.

His team's performance following the last round of Euro qualifiers - when Benitez later admitted he used too many stars who'd played the previous midweek - ensures the remaining players at Melwood this week have more likelihood of facing Blackburn.

They include Fowler, Jermaine Pennant, Fabio Aurelio, Stephen Warnock and, fortunately, Steven Gerrard, who is back on Merseyside due to his England suspension.

Apparently Kuyt's gonna be out for 2 games (according to Talksport) so Robbie has to get some action against Rovers and Bordeaux.
He'll be hungry and up for it (when wasn't he to be honest?)

id love to say the same metalhead m8, we all would. however, the simple fact that it is a 3 o'clock KO and not a 'live' sky game, might have some bearing on the players, you never know. with a little less pressure on them knowing they arent under the closest scrutiny to perform in front of the cameras, that may help to create a more relaxed mindset for the game.
we'll see.

Thats got to be the funniest thing ive ever heard.

Liverpool tv have announced that we will have another 2 of the 12.45 early kickoffs. Bolton at home and Watford away  :(

Got me a ticket for this one so driving up on the Friday night!!! Hope it goes better than the lousy 0-0 the last time i saw us play Rovers 2 years back. Don't expect it to be pretty but fancy the Reds to grind out a 1-0 win. Bellamy to score with the extra bit of confidence he will have after tonights performance for Wales.

It'll be interesting how Rafa approaches this one with our new set of injuries. The real question is who he will play up front. I personally think it should be Crouch and Bellamy. Something about Fowler doesn't inspire me with confidence, I am never convinced he will score. Also you have to fancy Bellamy playing against his former club to score, he ain't gunna be short of passion.

I expect Riise to slot back in at left back and I wonder whether Gonzales will get a run out. Give Alonso a rest. So maybe something like...

                        Reina

Finnan     Carragher     Hyypia     Riise

Pennant     Gerrard      Sissoko     Gonzales

                Crouch      Bellamy

Maybe Bellamy might have a bit too much passion for this one. I dont want to see him sent off! Sissoko is injured and is a doubt for Saturday. So its either Gerrard back in CM or Zenden if Sissoko doesnt make it.

I can see why you wouldnt want Robbie, hes not the player he was but he can still put the ball in the net, but he needs to play with Kuyt(injured) not Crouch, as the lack of pace would be debilitating.

I still think Kuyt and Fowler will mke a great strike force. If we ever see it :(

If we don't win this game, come sunday, they'll be so many angry threads on here that the forum will be visible from the moon.

Will Lucas Neill be playing? Good time to show he has what it takes to do well at our club.

I won't bother naming the team as I can't keep up with our ever growing injury list and Rafa never chooses the same team as me.

Let's hope that Fowler finds the net again, it would be nice to see Bellamy getting a couple.

I expect us to win 2-0 or something like that, if we fail to, then our season is beginning to go in a downward spiral.
