LIVERPOOL VS MACCABI HAIFA - Part 2

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Instead of predicting the team and score for the match, we should be predicting how long it will take before this thread is locked.

My prediction: Three days tops.
(basically as long as it takes for the Haifa fans to know there is a new thread to ruin) :veryangry

The team I'm inclined to play:

                Reina

Finnan  Agger  Hyypia  Aurelio

Pennant  Sissoko  Alonso  Gonzalez
                 Garcia
                 Crouch

SUBS: Dudek, Gerrard, Zenden, Bellamy, Fowler, Paletta, Warnock.

It will be tricky. Haifa have nothing to lose and once beat ManU 3-0 in the CL--so they're not going to roll over. A draw will be a good result for us--especially with the defense we'll probably be putting out!

It would be a terrible blow to everyone if we did slide out of the CL at this stage!

i believe rafa rest Crouch for this match thats why he didnt feature on Saturday. Rafa will play 4-5-1 compact as Haifa will be attacking with all they have. Though i hope we wont be palying such negative football

If Carragher and Riise don’t make it and Kuyt is not eligible to play in this round it still means we can put out a strong side. I personally would go for this team:

                    Reina

Finnan    Hyypia    Agger   Aurellio

Pennant  Alonso   Sissoko  Gonzalez

             Garcia    Crouch

Scoring first will pretty much put this game to bed and I really do expect to win this game, its game were Hafia need to change the current result so we should fins a lot more space than the first leg, cue Pennant and Gonzalez. I would be tempted to use Gerrard and Bellamy in the second half rather than from the beginning. The only worry for me is Agger and Aurellio are still relatively new, it would make me contemplate whether to maybe put Warnock at left back or possibly even left midfield.

We need to score. If it's 0-0 after 80 odd, and we decide to take what we've got and sit back, then they score a fluke last minute, we're out. Hopefully score early and should be job done.

I'm surprised how many people think Gerrard will or should be rested.  He'll be chomping at the bit for this one and he's still our captain and best "big game" player.  I also suspect Rafa might have played him at RM yesterday in preparation for this game.

As such, I suspect we'll line up like this:

                         Reina

Finnan        Hyypia      Agger         Aurelio

Gerrard       Alonso      Sissoko       Gonzales

                 Bellamy    Crouch

Subs: Pennant, Garcia, Paletta, Fowler, Zenden, Kromkamp, Dudek

I just hope the back four are drilled hard these next few days to get them working as a unit.  The last thing we need is to concede a soft goal from a set piece like we did yesterday.  If we stay tight at the back and get at them on the counter attack, we'll be fine.  I'm looking for a fairly comfortable 2-0 victory.

Why should we, Haifa fans, ruin your precios thread. Let's talk football (since in politics you guys won, apperantly...).
Naturaley your chances are better. If we're looking into your soft spots, I guess it's disregarding Haifa, which has cost you the Away goal Boccoli scored in Anfield. Also I think without Cara and Riise, your back is a bit open.
On the other hand, we have a week left back so if Pennant will play, we'll be in trouble. Anyway - My guess is 1-0 Haifa.

Anybody at all thinks Haifa stand a chance?

Just to throw panic into our ranks, what happens if Finnan is still unfit and unable to play. Do we persevere with Kromkamp or try the largely untested (at fullback) Palletta.
Again with Alonso (mystery injury/tired/loss of form?) if he is unable to play, I would suggest Gerrard in centre with Pennant filling in on the right.
I would also suggest Garcia in place of Bellamy (if you dont play him in europe when are you going to play him?)

Maccabi can't play like they played in England, with 10 men sitting deep waiting for Liverpool. That will open us spaces, and I hope to see Bellamy's and Gonzalez' pace in action, we must kill them in the counter attack.

I wouldn't like to reach to the half time with 0-0, as a goal of them could be dangerous, so we must seek a goal from moment one, even if they don't try to come for us as expected.

I'm not too worried, I'm quite confident that we'll win comfortably.

I'd like to see something like

-----------Reina-------

Finnan Agger  Hyppia  Aurelio

----------Alonso------------
Pennant  Gerrard   Gonzalez

-----------Bellamy

---------------     Crouch

If the things are bad at half time, I'd use LG's inspiration as it is a continental game.

If Finnan's not fit, I'd put Kronkamp again. I don't think he's a bad player, just needs some matches.

We've been in this position so many times before when we've not been on a good run right before a game we have to win. Remember they have to score so they'll come at us which means we can hit em on the break. If we score 1 you'd think it's all over. I'd defo play Crouch coz they're not that good in the air. Once we get this game over with then we can concentrate more on the league.
