Can we finish 4th - Everton and bolton

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

im not a person to worry but we have 5 games to go 3 away and 2 at home i think we have to win 4 games to scrape into 4th place i look at bolton now as a much bigger threat than everton, everton have a harder run in man utd and arsenal, winning the champions league may be our best shot.

Its going to be very difficult. We really need to win at least 4 out of the last 5 to have any chance, and will be depending on Bolton and Everton dropping points.

You can be pretty sure both Bolton or Everton wil drop pts as they play each other on the last game of the season AT the Reebok ???

I suspect we will end up not getting 4th spot although I'd be interested to know what Bolton's remaining fixtures are first. Does anyone know ?

It doesn't matter now anyway. It would be nice to finish fourth, but the fact that we've advanced so far in the CL this year, added to our presence in the UEFA Cup next season means we can probably afford a season without the CL next year (as long as we haven't taken out loans based on our participation in the CL). Bolton and Everton wouldn't get past the qualifying round of the CL anyway.

The fact we're in the semi-finals of the CL with what is considered a weak team will attract new players to Liverpool. Rafa will also encourage new players to come to the club, even more so if Gerrard stays.

This "£15 million" that people talk about, referring to CL qualification, only really applies if you advance to at least the Quarter Final stage. If we don't get fourth this season, then it's no big deal, Rafa will build his new team and we'll get CL football the year after. I think Liverpool have had a relatively decent season considering we've had so many injuries, poor players, and a new manager. It's a club and team in transition. Taking into account all those factors, it's a massive achievement to have reached the CL semi-finals with a decent chance of making the final.

It may also allow us to focus on our league form more.

I can defo see us finishing in the top 3 next season, with Alonso the gem running the midfield.

Can we finish fourth? Yes, I stand by what I've said all season long.

we can take consolations if for a fact,we didn't achieve the CL spot.perhaps,we can concentrate more on the premiership matches.

besides, its interesting to know how far Bolton or Everton can go in the CL next season if they do really achieve it.i doubt they'll get as far as to quarter-finals.

i felt tis season we really did tremendously well even though we hav to cope wif several injuries.

We can still finish 4th but its out of our hands now and we can't afford any more defeats

To be honest though it is not the disaster that everyone thinks it will be if we don't get 4th.  We still have a real chance of winning the champ lge and qualifying that way, and i actually think that may now be easier than getting 4th as we don't have to rely on other teams dropping points.

The run we've had this year in the champ lge should be enough to have raised our profile in europe to attract good players next season, and without the distraction of champ lge our league form will be improved.

Excellent post and putting this obsession with 4th into perspective  :)

Fans seem to foget how much of a "draw" Benitez is all over Europe and the fact we have made the Semi Finals of Europe's premier competition will not have gone unnoticed by potential targets for LFC.

I'm with Manhattan on this one and believe that progress this season has been significant and you get the real fel that we are on the up as a side

Cant disagree with what you've said.

No doubt, we will be closer to winning the league next year than this one.

We're a couple of talented players short, which no doubt Rafa will bring in during the summer.

If Stevie does an Owen on us, (ie leaves cos he wants to go to a new club for the money, although he says its because he wants to win things). Thats 2 more top draw players.

Anyway, I'm more than confident Alonso can hold the midfield. In fact, I'd prefer him.

I think the group stage is worth around 10 million pounds and qualification to the knock-out stages will bring additional revenue. How much a club makes is heavily dependent on how much support it has and how popular the club becomes in terms of commercialisation.

For example, winning the CL will net more for Real Madrid and Manure because of the sheer size of their commercialisation potential than Porto. It is not accurate to say that the Group stage is not lucrative because the TV money is so much more than the UEFA cup. Getting in the Group stage and failing to advance to the knock out stage is more lucrative than winning the UEFA Cup because of UEFA's system of money distribution of the revenues generated.

That is why the CL is so important.
