to be fair that side won 3 prem titles and got to a CL final, that takes some doing, especially considering arsenal arent bankrolled by super rich owners like city or chelsea.

If we sell Agger and bring in a replacement in Ashley Williams I'll be livid!

if we sell agger i dont think we`ll spend the money on a defender, i think rodgers will start the season with carragher and skrtel and gradually bring kelly into the side.
i think he`ll spend the money on a forward or attacking midfielder.
if agger does go i just hope the likes of skrtel and even luis ( he must be getting a bid fed up of english football after being boo`ed all round the country during the olympics, being boo`ed when we are playing united is one thing but the olympics?) dont take aggers departure as a sign of us lacking ambition and decide to consider their futures.

The Agger to Barca rumour seems more like a wish than anything serious IMO, though I could be wrong....

First, Barca's initial goal in the txfer market was a left CD who can cover left back to replace Abidal. Then this was scratched to get a LB outright- Jordi Alba, but still leaving the need for a CD as cover...

Next Keita leaves unexpectedly. Priority them noves to a DM who can play as CD, with Javi Martinez the main target. Except Bilbao want 40m and wont budge; plus his wages would have to match Iniesta's in order to make up for what he loses of the tax shelter afforded the Basques...

In a press conference, Villanova speaks of wide range of options numbering up to 50 players. Mundo Deportivo then run with this and builds a list, including Agger and Song. Naturally Mascherano is interviewed and he says +ive things about Agger and the speculation gathers stream...

Now speculation is moving towards Song.

However, three new developments have now emerged. First Batra, the CD from the Academy is showing good signs in preseason; did quite well vs PSG and will be tested again vs Man United.

Then Jonathan Dos Santos is doing well in the DM role...

3rd Abidal signalled a possible return in December. So now talk is about waiting to see how things develop and revisit the issue in the January window...

the manchester evening news is reporting that city have upped their original offer (they say it was £13m) to £18m.
it wouldnt surprise me if we accepted that, it`s near enough £20m and for someone who`s 28 thats decent money, especially with kelly waiting in the wings.
the problem for liverpool is that if we do accept the offer it will look like we are prepared to sell our best players.
the decision might be taken out of the clubs hands though, agger may well come out and say he wants to go, he`s 28 and may feel that in order to challenge for the top honours in this, the latter stages of his career, he might have to move on.

I wonder what the supporters who told me I was worrying about nothing when I highlighted my concern with Rodgers's comments about dipping into the loan market to bring in players this summer have made of the admission that Agger is more than likely going to be sold to make funds for new signings? This is worrying news for any supporter because it means that this club isn't making enough money in order to finance the recruitment of new players. So now we have to operate on a sell-to-buy plan and as we saw with Rafa this ends up eroding the quality of the squad further and further into the realms of mediocrity, as if we aren't mediocre as it stands.

I'm not asking FSG to dip into their own pockets and pump hundreds of millions into the club for new faces, but the fact that we've lost Kuyt, Maxi and Aquilani. Apparently Bellamy if off to Cardiff and Daniel Agger looks set to make way. Yet we've only signed one player, a young, inexperienced, unproven striker from Roma. I'd say as it stands that if things progress like they have been doing in this transfer window we'll have a weaker squad this season then we did last season and I can only see us slipping further down the league table and it frightens me, because I look at clubs like Aston Villa, Leeds and Nottingham Forest and I see how easily those once big English clubs fell from grace and I see the same thing happening to us.

In order for this club to move forward, get better and start being successful once more, we need better players and these players don't grow on trees, they are playing for other clubs and command in some cases large transfer fees and we must be prepared to bring some of these players into our club, if we aren't and we're relying on young players with potential and players on the cheap, then we'll never get anywhere. The longer and longer FSG's reign at the club goes on for, the less and less faith I have in them as owners.

The transfers in and out could be this come the end of August.

In.

Fabio Borini.
Joe Allen.
Ashley Williams.

Out.

Fabio Aurelio.
Dirk Kuyt.
Maxi Rodriguez.
Alberto Aquilani.
Craig Bellamy.
Daniel Agger.

on the other hand... Agger hasn't joined another club, Bellamy might not leave for Cardiff and we might sign 4 new players in the next 3 weeks.

but you'll always focus on the negative option cos you like so many others are a shower of ***** when it comes down to it.

I was losing interest anyway with the lack of signings even before this speculation surfaced. The suspicion will be that if top players are being sold to fund others coming in the FSG regime will begin to resemble the one they replaced.

Agger is the kind of quality that should be retained if the team is to get back into the top four as quickly as possible. If he is sold for whatever reason it will become harder and harder to attract the quality required to reach the top four and to retain the likes of Suarez.

i dont think we`d get that much for him, twenty million quid is a lot of money for a 28 year old centre half.

in that case he's going nowhere. the club want £20m+ and city are only prepared to offer £18m
