Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby damjan193 » Wed Oct 06, 2010 9:54 pm

"The company are trying to purchase Liverpool FC. Tom Hicks and George N. Gillett, Jr. are against the sale of Liverpool FC however have been overruled by the Liverpool Board. The matter is subject to legal hearing.
In October 2010 the New England Sports Ventures consortium made an offer thought to be around £300 million for Liverpool Football Club. The Liverpool board then recommended the offer to the shareholders.

In an attempt to block any sale and regain control of the club, Liverpool owners Tom Hicks and George N. Gillett, Jr. tried to replace managing director Christian Purslow and commercial director Ian Ayre with Hicks's son, Mack Hicks, and Lori Kay McCutcheon, a vice president at Hicks Holdings. Purslow, Ayre and chairman Martin Broughton are now consulting lawyers over whether they can resist the owners' attempts to replace them and force through a sale. The approval of the Premier League will also be necessary."

I have just seen a statement from SOS and while they have been amazing lately and done some outstanding work that must be applauded and it had me thinking of joining - this is the sort of thing i dont like

"It is disappointing that none of the potential purchase groups are yet to engage with Spirit of Shankly and we would expect that to happen now before any sale is concluded so the issues most closely concerning supporters can be discussed."

Im sorry but that statement thinks power has gone a little bit to someones head - why the hell would potential owners talk to them - These guys are talking to the people that are crucial when it comes to million dollar purchases . Yes they will understand the fans and will know about fans fears - they have seen the press and know what Hicks has done . If this deal does go ahead then maybe SOS should just sit back a little bit and look to work alongside the Official Supporters Group in regards to travel to games etc . The guys from the SOS have been amazing lately and have worked tirelessly to keep the club in the limelight and people should thank them but that statement worries a bit about how they think they should be involved .

I dont care about that at the mo ,as long as them two are gone and we become dept free thatll do for me

Same as that, we need to get out of this desperate and depressing situation more than anything. A deal without non-acquisition debt secures the future of the club and means it won't be hemorrhaging money every month. It will take a bit of pressure of the manager/players and perhaps the dark clouds will disperse and our team might follow it up by showing a bit of form.

It's in our consitution to hold any owners to account benny . It's also in our constitution to get supporter representation on the board and the ultimate aim is supporter ownership . SOS are being entirely consistant .

I have to agree with that.  Much props to SOS for the efforts and campaigns against the Yanks but its absurd to think any potential buyer should consult with SOS. Thats just not realistic.

I agree with Benny, SOS should know that things like this are done as private as possible, maybe after the sale is actually complete they could consult with the new owners.. but until then be happy we're in the process of being sold.

The SOS released a statement a while back which I was picking on, one part read:
Spirit Of Shankly – ShareLiverpoolFC is aware of the increasing speculation regarding the potential sale of our club. We can confirm that Spirit Of Shankly - ShareLiverpoolFC (SOS-SL) have made contact with those involved in the transaction process to register our interest in acquiring a shareholding on behalf of our constituents.

So Igor is right in that respect. They have been consistent.

I understand that mate but that statement just smacks of wrong to Menander arrogance and of success going to their head a little bit - they have done some great work but there is no way an investor will speak to them - at present they don't have any official link to the club - hence why I think they should speak to the official supporters club . If this deal is as good as it looks then the club will be in good hands so what will SOS do then ? I'm sorry but I don't think the fans will ever own the club or ever have representation on the board . I got that bit of statement from a another forum , a lot of people on that forum were praising SOS for their work and were thinking of joining then as soon as the statement was posted people just turned away . We don't want to scare people away .
