Keith Harris, the former Football League chairman, claims that a foreign investor he is representing has completed due diligence with a view to buying Liverpool.
Harris has previously been involved in takeovers at Aston Villa, West Ham United and Manchester City, where Thaksin Shinawatra enjoyed a brief spell as owner, as well as previously acting on behalf of the Al Khorafi family, who attempted to buy the Reds in 2008.
Chinese businessman Kenny Huang became the latest investor to withdraw his interest in Liverpool last week and whilst Harris has refused to name the mystery bidder he represents, he insists that it is none of the groups who have been previously named.
"The overseas buyer we represent has completed due diligence. A huge amount of work has been done," he said.
"It is none of the groups mentioned in the press. The ball is now in our client's court to make an offer.
"I do not think the deal will be done before the transfer window closes this month but the next pressure point is October when some of the RBS loan of £237million has to be repaid. It may happen then. But in the present climate these things are impossible to predict."
With the Royal Bank of Scotland, the Liverpool's primary lender, are expected to recall their loan on October 6 co-owner Tom Hicks is on the lookout for $230million financing, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing in the United States.
As usual there's spin all over the place.
The mystery partner has done due diligence so T&T are fully aware of the interest.
Harris says its not going to happen soon (which will cost T&T 2.5 million a week until it is) so there's the first torpedo, and talking of waiting until October 6th making it loud and clear to T&T they're in the driving seat and willing to squeeze their pips. So indirectly they're putting pressure on T&T to accept their terms without delaying further.
Hicks counters via the rights issue..........
Same old, same old... Kenny out, Orville in.
