bigmick wrote:332 billion sounds like a fair bit, feck me. The trouble with all these bidders is you never really know until about six months after you've signed on the dotted line whether you've got the right one or not. The difficulty for me is, I'm not sure if I'd actually be that happy if we got someone rich enough to do a Man City. That for me is a fecking ridiculous carry on, and even if we did win the title under those circumstances I'd be happy but no ecstatic.

My ideal would be someone who'd redevelop the original Anfield site (I know it's probably a non-starter but I think it would be a tragedy to tear it down,) and build it up to around a 60,000 capacity but keep the atmos'. Then, I'd like him or them to give the manager 30 million quid each summer and say off you go (plus of course any money from player sales). If we won the league under those circumstances, then I'd be ecstatic.

If the owner or owners is able to do that and make himself a few quid out of gaming rights on playstation, or on handtowel sales in Shanghai, I couldn't really care less to be honest. That's my ideal owner anyway, although I know it's probably cloud cuckoo land.

Good post. Remember a topic on here a while back asking who the ideal owner would be. Without thinking you might be inclined to say "the richest fecker you can find, or the one willing to spend the most money on players", but that's obviously not necessarily the person who is best for the club. I'd like an owner with the means to complete the new stadium (ideally a redevelopment, but I understand it's a no-goer), fund the team to a reasonable level so's whoever is manager can compete without being accused of buying the league, and to do all of this in a way that doesn't unduly compromise the financial stability of the club i.e. don't overleverage. To conduct their business in the Liverpool Way, and finally if and when the time comes many years down the line when they've decided to sell up in order to realise their investment, to ensure that the next buyer is just as responsible.

That Richard Buxton just posted this on twitter.

Chinese sovereign fund confirmed as Liverpool FC ownership bidders

Kenny Huang has told the Liverpool board that he is being backed by China's largest sovereign fund in a bid to step up his pursuit of the club.

As revealed by Click Liverpool on Monday, the former Wall Street stockbroker has now confirmed to Anfield chiefs, including chairman Martin Broughton, that his benefactors are the China Investment Corporation (CIC).

Huang issued a statement earlier today distancing himself from any bids for Liverpool with the investment arm, who have assets worth $332billion (£208bn), keen to tie up a deal in principal before the end of the month away from the media spotlight.

The Chinese businessman confirmed his interest in Liverpool but has yet to provide proof of CIC's funding to the board of Kop Holdings - the club's parent company before they can be considered as serious contenders to succeed George Gillett and Tom Hicks as owners.

Meanwhile Yahya Kirdi, another of six potential investors, has followed up his claims this morning that talks with the American duo are at an advanced stage by outlining his plans for a new stadium if negotiations are successful.

Speaking from his home in Canada the former Syrian footballer, who is a long-standing friend of Gillett's son Foster, has claimed that he will build a five-star hotel and a shopping centre on the proposed site in Stanley Park despite being dismissed earlier this year as a serious bidder.

"I want to build Liverpool," he said.

"I have a new plan which I have given George Gillett.

"This one is not only a stadium but also a stadium and hotel, five-star, and shopping centre."

British Airways chiief Broughton was installed as chairman of the Premier League outfit in April as part of plans by Barclays Capital to overlook the sale process and remains committed to accepting the 'right bid', ideally before the close of the transfer window on September 1.

Yeah just posted a bit about that above. If these are stalling tactics from Gillette then I hope Broughton and the board see right through them. Broughton is no dummy and will know full well that this Syrian is mates with them.

Works for me. I don't wanna be another Man city either mate. Doesn't seem quite right to me what they are doing there.

True Scott but if it were a choice between that or not being able to compete we would all take the former in a heartbeat. It's just the way football is going. No once can compare us with City though, they have stars that don't even mean anything on their shirt.

In other news........The Rangers bankrupcy will be sorted out once and for all tommorrow.

How does an owner drive a perfectly good baseball team in one of the largest markets in the United States into bankruptcy? Ask Tom Hicks. The Texas Rangers had a beautiful ballpark and a solid fan base when Hicks bought the team in 1998. The Rangers were a competitive ball club that started regularly making the playoffs in the 90’s. Hicks took a burgeoning young ball club and drove it into bankruptcy in just 10 years.

In 2000, Hicks signed Alex Rodriguez to the largest contract in baseball history at 10 years, $252 million dollars. There were no other suitors offering even $200 million for A-Rod’s services. How could Hicks offer such a large contract to one player? The answer is debt. Tom Hicks is a perfect example of the misuse of leverage. He has a track record of buying perfectly healthy companies and loading them up with debt. He then takes the cash out of the debt ridden business and buys another one.

Hicks currently owns the Texas Rangers, Dallas Stars, and the Liverpool Football Group. The Texas Rangers are the 1st major league baseball team to go into bankruptcy in 17 years. The Dallas Stars are so debt laden that Hicks is being forced to sell the team by creditors. Hicks saddled the Stars with $600 million in debt. Now Hicks and partner George Gillett are trying to sell the Liverpool Football Club after loading the franchise up with nearly half a billion dollars in debt..

It goes to show that it doesn’t matter how much money you have; too much debt can be the downfall of anyone.
