I don't think Stevie or Masch were necessarily looking to stay anyway Sange. Masch wanted out for the first 3 months of the season and I get the impression it's as much about the money as anything else as far as he is concerned. As for Stevie, it's always been about winning or being in a position to win and i doubt he can see much hope of that going into next season. I can only imagine he was as dumbfounded with Rafa as many fans were this past season. Torres is the one I am most worried about, if Stevie goes he will too, I think it's that simple. The only thing working in our favour as far as he goes is that Barca have just signed Villa, and are now chasing Fabregas. I don't think Madrid will splash for him after last summer's outlay and neither do I think he would want to play for them. I don't think the Italian teams can afford him so that leaves City, Chelsea and the mancs as potential destinations. I can't bear to think about that.  Just hope he stays another season :(

Rafa has a contract and deserves his massive payout.

To me that's wrong in both areas.
Firstly the key players are more important to me than a manager that has failed.

And to me someone that has failed does not deserve anything like the ridiculous figure he is reported to be entitled to.
Now i am not saying he should just give up whatever he has been told he will get if he is sacked.

Just that i care more about the club than Rafa getting a shedloads of cash like Houllier did to ride off into the sunset with.

I have had more than a stomach full of Steven Gerrard if I am honest. He is a fantastic player, but I have made my staunch dislike of him as a person no secret. He is thirty and is nearing the end of his career. If he wants to leave for Real Madrid, I'd let him go.

The same with Carragher he is thirty two and probably has a season or two left playing top flight football, he is already a shadow of the player has was three years ago. If he wants to leave I'd let him pursue a career elsewhere.

Mascherano has fallen out of my good books with his tantrum last summer about not being allowed to leave and his repeated desire to leave the club. Only two weeks ago I read several articles stating that Mascherano and wife are struggling with life in Liverpool and wish to leave with Barcelona being heavily linked. It wouldn't bother me if he left either.

Torres is one player I do want us to keep, but what's the point of having him here when all he seems to do is lay on a treatment table or throw a hissyfit on the pitch when a defender marks him out of the game?

All of these players let the fans down last season and received virtually no criticism on the .tv forums. The hard workers like Lucas and Kuyt received all the criticism while no one really uttered anything about the individuals who really did let the fans down last season.

Also Benayoun can clear off as well, he wants a move to Chelsea let him go, I want players who want to be here and unfortunately, Mascherano, Benayoun and Gerrard have signalled that they are prepared to leave as has Fernando Torres.

As for Benitez, a contract is a contract, if it says £16m then that's what Benitez should get and I hope he holds out for every single penny he is owed.

From what I have heard from the rumour mill Gerrard, Torres, Mascherano and Carragher have lost faith in Benitez, so Benitez's departure might not start a mass exodus, though I can see Pepe Reina perhaps following him out of the door.

am hoping that is the case and that there is some player power at work here. At least that would give you some confidence of keeping our best lads for next season.

I've said exactly the same for years and got shot down every time. Last year the guy was a disgrace but people still defended him because of everything he'd done in the past. People used other players misgivings as some sort of excuse for his poor form. He swanned around the pitch looking half arsed for most of the season, only getting up for games when he felt like it.

You have had enough of all of these players but not the massively underachieving and underperforming manager

Is he feck entitled to 16 million.

Just shows the stupidity of football these days and the contracts players and managers are given.

I could discuss Gerrard if i had more time but what i will say is, if only our best player since Kenny was afforded the loyalty and backing that the current manager is given by some fans  :no

lets all keep in mind that our season starts on July 29th.  (only 8 weeks away!)  Even if we have a new manager next week, he'll only have 7 weeks before our season starts. most of which our star players will be playing in the world cup.

Rafa has had long enough. We have not won a trophey for years, we havent been to the new wembley yet. His recent signings have been a disgrace. Last season we were a laughing stock. The question should not be why sack him.
It should be why keep him?

Yeah I mean winning a European Cup, reaching another final, and another two Semis, bringing in players like Alonso, Masch, Torres, Agger, Reina, and doubling, tripling, even quadrupling their values, turning Gerrard from a 8-goal a season player, into a 20-goal a season destructive force, winning the FA Cup and bringing about our first title challenge for over ten years, and our biggest points tally in almost TWENTY years is really poor.

Mind you last season was a disaster all round which is obviously all that matters. He deserves to go. We're no better than Real Madrid or Chelsea.

Dav do you honestly think that right now is a good time to sack Rafa, given the fact that WE HAVE NO MONEY, our owners don't want to be there and our chairman seems a bit shady? seems to me the club is slipping away from the fans. I can bet that when the move Sammy Lee up to manager we won't win anything for a while as well. be careful what you wish for

We have done all of this to death.

I am certain in a few years when we see all these players books you will get the truth about their feelings about Rafa.

It will read bright start and then it all went wrong.
The transfer dealings and squad shaping that he has done the last 2 seasons has been nothing short of disgraceful.
Keane
Aquilani

Those two transfers make me shudder.
As does seeing a team sheet for half a season with this name on its own upfront

Ngog

Probably the most inept attacking formation that i have witnessed in my time as a liverpool supporter.

So yes i agree, HE HAS TO GO.

i have not posted on here in months. As i have wanted rafa out for along time now, and all posts led to pro and anti rafa arguments. I respect people who want him to to stay.
My question is simple, now it looks like he is going.
What reasons have you got for wanting him to stay?
I  would take anyone over RAFA at the minute (even sammy Lee).
So again i say why do you want him to stay?
i have lists of reasons i want rid of him but i think all have been talked about before.
so again why do you want him to stay?

All the anti Rafa crowd can have their moment.

The Pro Rafa crowd can suffer at this time and eventually become the ANTI Ian Dowie crowd.

His attitude over the past season has been nothing short of disgraceful. It's not the first time it has happened either. People who slate Rafa to the hilt accuse Benitez of living off of Istanbul and Cardiff, but that is what Gerrard has been doing over the past four years and my patience with the man has worn thin.

If he wants to go then I won't be losing any sleep, we've gotten the best years out of him and it is time to let him go before the rot sets in and we are stuck with another player who is a shadow of his former self.
