Some seem to think that it was the players (or some of the players rather) who wanted him out. Time will tell I guess.

If those players are Torres, Gerrard and Mascherano then I hope all three leave the club because I won't be supporting them next season.

I've got no time for players who try their best to undermind their manager, regardless of their personal thoughts of Benitez these players and the rest of squad should have put that to one side and played for the fans.

That didn't happen last season and it is unacceptable and now it has cost our finest manager in twenty years his job. Nice one lads, now lets see how you like playing under Kevin Keegan.

Me neither Nan, can't see it myself. Rafa made Torres the player he is today. I just want some sort of confirmation, all this maybe rumor talk is doing my nut in.

And after that I'll support the new manager, who I think will have a big fight with these two yanks at the helm.

Some had even stated privately that they would leave if Benitez stayed.

And I hope that the players who said this didn't use Rafa as a pretext for their selfishness and they actually stay now he's sacked. ???

Personally I think it's all rubbish about players wanting out because of him mate. He won a European Cup and got to another European Final a few years later. The players know the fault mainly lies at the owners feet, it's not Rafa's fault he has had to work with chump change.

This is a bs story!

Dunno Bav mate, it would explain the very weird atmosphere around the club this season, and the poor form of Gerrard.

Good point from Sabes though, will these players stay if Rafa does go. Personally think Stevie will go, Yossi too and if Torres/Masch have a good world cup, the owners will get an offer they can't refuse.

Still, as Igor would say, this is all essentially a sideshow and we should be thinking how we can use the media attention to push the owners out.

I'm not sure. If it isn't true then it's a major journalistic blunder by Maddock, one that he'd be remembered for. On the other hand, he does seem to have a bit of the Lakes about him in the sense that he thrives on turning out exclusives, and generally talks b0llocks. It certainly came out of the blue though. Would've thought a decision would have been made in the course of the meetings they had a few weeks back.

No manager in their right mind would take a seat in our managerial hotseat with two owners given the circumstances. We'll be lucky to attract John Barnes nevermind Guus Hiddink.

you watch ihmo. They wont sack rafa unless they have agreed with someone else. Hiddink is coming u watch.

Rocky are you punch drunk lad. What makes you think a top manager would come here,we will end up with some lap dog whos chain can be pulled from across the pond.

is this not because there is a new owner on the horizon who doesnt want to pay the severance payoff to rafa?

I wont gloat at all, thanks for the memories of istanbul, cardiff and running the mancs clsoe. But, i feel this could be the right decision, as long as we get the right manager. MON, Hodgson or Rijkaard.

Its not come out of the blue.
i have been asked to step away from posting my media info on her by the mods.
the meetings were not what they seemed a few weeks ago and Rafa getting his agent to contact inter did not go down well with the club.
big players telling the club they did not wish to still be hear next season if Rafa was the manager also did not go down well.
SG JC having a bust up with Rafa during half time of a live tv game tells you how bad this got at this club this year with Rafa and the players.
