Well I should think that is about our strongest possible team we can put out. Under normal circumstances I'd have Agger in place of Skyrtel when he's not blubbing to the press, but other than that it's our best team and we need to win.

Its as close to it you can get probably if you switch Agger for skyrtel.
People could argue for Lucas ahead of Poulsen and to be honest for me it wouldnt make much difference based on what i have seen so far.

For me its the tactics that need to change though.
That team 4-3-3 with Cole and Kuyt closer to Torres is far better than 4-5-1 with the two of them really wide.

I think we would be a better side without doubt with that tweaking of our system.

I cant see us losing this one, but a draw is very possible.

I just hope we dont sit too deep like we have done in previous games. Or can we please have the midfield pushed forward a bit more Roy!

good post mate! lets get stuck in & create chances from the word go, let's give torres the service he craves, with the right formation we will achieve our aim. at home let's scare the sh1t out of their defence, the midfield is crucial for me tomorrow with cole facing goal & not with his back to it is a major factor.

personally i'd play gerrard in midfield, to control & dictate the pace of the play. that will enable cole a free role to get foward more & create chances for himself aswell as torres. it's a shame kuyt may not fgure tomorrow as i still think we are missing his work rate in midfield in closing down the oppo & getting the attacking going.

if maxi plays (he needs a kick up the backside btw) he really needs to create more options going foward, cross more etc, the amount of times so far this season iv'e found myself screaming at him to get the ball in the box is countless! it's a big test for players like him at the moment for me, his attitude needs to improve big time.

lets hope we put them under pressure from the off.

hope not mate, i don't like the look of the midfield set up. i'd rather have gerrard in centre midfield, that line up would not control the play to really hurt sunderland, i could see us playing to deep, an as at home,i want a more attacking option. i hope kuyt is back though, but is he fully fit to start? but i might get my wish that maxi doesn't start as i really think he needs a kick up the backside & made to fight for his place.

also although i really rate agger & think he is far better than skytel in bringing the ball out of defence & setting up some attacking options, he is another who needs a kick up the backside for his un-acceptable display on wednesday night! & if he isn't picked tomorrow he's only got himself to blame imho.

i just think we should start games more positively from the off.... it needs us to go a goal or two down at the moment to get us playing... two holding midfielders, in my eyes equals six defenders! at home to no disrespect to sunderland or wba, who are playing with ten!

if we dont get a win tomorrow i will be dreading next weeks visit of blackpool (i live there), i see a lot more than most people do of them, and if we're lacking confidence they will be very dangerous! they will attack at anfield no mistaking.

He had better not be playing with 2 holding midfielders. And where's Agger? Is he really persisting with Skrtel? He isn't making life easy for himself. Good grief.

I don't understand why meireles and gerrard can't be a midfield pair......i think it would give our side a much better attacking edge especially against lower teams. Also, i thought Cole has been outstanding for us in the hole drifting deep wide and generally all over the pitch, IMHO it his best position for me. I'd line up like this

                                                                    Reina

                   Johnson                  Agger                          Carra                        Konchesky

                                              Gerrard                        Meireles

                   Kuyt                                                                                        Jova
                                                                 Cole

                                                                Torres

On paper, it looks like a good team and one that should destroy Sunderland at Anfield. Obviously we continue to underperform, none of the new signings are fully settled yet, we have doubts about the CM partnership, Torres is out of form, Kuyt just back from injury and the whole team low in confidence. Despite all that, I think we'll see a backlash from midweek and win this 2-1, playing some very nice football at times. Come on the reds!  :buttrock

Setup wise, there's no reason we can't play aggressive attacking football. Poulsen's obviously our holder and Kuyt and Cole need to give some support to our FB's but theres no reason BOTH Gerrard and Meireles can't be given license to push forward and in doing so provide much more support for Torres. The problem with telling everyone to just go for it is it will put even more pressure on our defense as cost us at the start of last season.
