Why is that? Because they're just back and not match fit?

Definitely need to use this as preseason training, and that means giving our first team some playing time. They need to be match fit for the start of the season - it's massive with Arsenal and City first up.

Players who take part in a world cup get given a mandatory 1 month off prior to pre-season training. Torres, Kuyt and Reina have only just returned, they'll be nowhere near ready.

Besides, why risk them. 2-0 up with the home leg to come....

Risk them because they need to be fully match fit in 10 days to face Arsenal at Anfield. I know we're a victim of their success in the world cup but it would be a disaster to loose our first two matches against Arsenal and City becuase our first team players hadn't played together and weren't match fit.

There's plenty of time. The senior players will play tonight.

Torres is a doubt for the opening games anyway. Reina is going to be fine, he didn't do anything at the world cup. Kuyt may be the only casualty, but it is no great loss.

Arsenal will have the exact same issues with Fabregas.

there were pictures of them making monkey gestures at our black players.  And not sure about the ethnic similarities or differences but they booed Kyrgiakos the entire night solely because of his nationality.

The Macedonian / Greece dispute runs deep -

"The Greek government refuses to recognize its neighbor's constitutional name, the Republic of Macedonia, which it sees as a thinly veiled bid to lay claim to three of its northern districts, a region known as Greek Macedonia. After Macedonia declared independence in 1991, Greece prevented it from joining the United Nations and imposed an economic blockade that nearly strangled the fledgling country.

Greece also vetoed Macedonia's bid to join NATO last year and is blocking its admission to the European Union until it changes its name to the Republic of Skopje, the Slavic Republic of Macedonia or something similar."

Enough with the youngsters for now, we need our strongest possible 11 to get together. Give Shelvey and Pachecho some playing time after we are a few goals up.

yes well the Greeks have a point.  The original Macedonia, before Phillip II and then Alexander the Great went off conquering the world, was entirely or almost entirely within what is now the modern day country of Greece.

The Greeks really should get over it. Everyone else recognises the state of Macedonia
