Why is that? Because they're just back and not match fit?

Definitely need to use this as preseason training, and that means giving our first team some playing time. They need to be match fit for the start of the season - it's massive with Arsenal and City first up.

Players who take part in a world cup get given a mandatory 1 month off prior to pre-season training. Torres, Kuyt and Reina have only just returned, they'll be nowhere near ready.

Besides, why risk them. 2-0 up with the home leg to come....

Risk them because they need to be fully match fit in 10 days to face Arsenal at Anfield. I know we're a victim of their success in the world cup but it would be a disaster to loose our first two matches against Arsenal and City becuase our first team players hadn't played together and weren't match fit.

There's plenty of time. The senior players will play tonight.

Torres is a doubt for the opening games anyway. Reina is going to be fine, he didn't do anything at the world cup. Kuyt may be the only casualty, but it is no great loss.

Arsenal will have the exact same issues with Fabregas.
