Liverpool Football Club - Games

Postby ycsatbjywtbiastkamb » Fri Oct 01, 2021 8:50 am

Big, big game, possibly season defining as imo the team who finishes top of the little mini league consisting of us, City, Chelsea and United will probably end up winning the league.
No Trent is a blow as he is probably our main supply line, no Thiago too  :(
Our fans need to be up for this one, they went AWOL v Chelsea but they need to get behind the lads for the entire 90 mins.

Yeah big game. Even with home advantage its still going to be tough but we have to make up for the Chelsea game and get the win.

I hope he doesn't go with Milner at RB. He hasn't got the legs to play there against this lot.

Yeah although they lost in Paris City dominated the ball against both Chelsea and PSG so it's going to be tough to try and stamp our authority on the game, there are going to be spells throughout the game were we wont see the ball for minutes at a time.
They battered us 4-1 in the corresponding fixture last season but that was with a makeshift defence and no fans so I don't think that game will have any bearing on the outcome Sunday.
As for Milner I agree 100% but I think  he'll be the one Jurgen goes with.

Better with Gomez or play Robbo there and Tsimikas on the left.

Not a bad shout that, it would at least allow us to shoehorn a decent crosser into the team, Gomez/Robertson would probably be the best pairing from a defensive point of view but we'd deffo lose something going the other way and given our fullbacks are probably our main source of chances we may struggle to put a dent in them.
As I said though i think it will be Milner.

If we want to win the league we must win some games against our direct rivals. Winning away would be 10x times more difficult, so we'll have to do it at home. We already squandered one chance to beat Chelsea at home who had a man down, so I'd say this one is pretty much a must win.

Trent and Thiago will be a huge miss, especially Trent since all of his back-ups have some big downsides to them. However, I still think we're the better team and with the home advantage we should have a chance of winning.

Loathe and detest everything about City. We need to be at our very best. The top of the league is looking crazy. No slip ups permitted.

We are tipped to lose this, probably because of City’s win at Chelsea and the fact Trent is not playing but I still think we are a better team. If it is a level playing field we normally beat this lot.

Let’s hope that’s a good omen. City have got an awful record at Anfield. Forget about last year. We were missing our 12th
mam and the players heads were in a very strange place !!

LIVERPOOL TEAM NEWS

Team to play Man City: Alisson, Robertson, Milner, Matip, Van Dijk, Fabinho, Henderson, Jones, Jota, Mane, Salah.

Subs: Kelleher, Konate, Keita, Firmino, Gomez, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Minamino, Tsimikas, Williams.

As good an XI as we can out out given TAA and Thiago are out.

I'm going for a Jota and Salah 2-0 win.

Thought we might have put Bobby in to stop Rodri running the game. Jota will need to do a much better job on Rodri than he did on Kroos in the Champions League last year.

Start at a high tempo and take our chances and we could win this by half time. But Pep will setup to counter us. We failed miserably to stifle De Bruyne last year. We have to deny him space to turn and play.

Bit worried that milner will be targeted as the weak link. A bit of sustained pressure and his legs will go, then he will be late into challenges and a risk. RB is a demanding role in this team and I just can't believe that our best option is a 36 year old out of position.

It's going to be tough. We need to capitalise on the home advantage though and get the win so we need to take our chances.
The fans will be right behind them so hopefully it makes the difference and we send out a message  :buttrock

Milner is the fittest player in the squad and we've had 4 days recovery from the last game so no issue with his legs. But he's obviously not a natural fullback so might need some extra protection from Henderson on the right hand side. So far this season our midfield has been a little slack in tracking runners and getting to the 2nd ball first but there is no room for that today.

We are very poor. Inviting pressure, giving away cheap possession.

If we don't ship up soon then a City goal will be incoming.

We are allowing City to take control of the game
