Liverpool FC v Newcastle Wednesday 26th December 2018 3.00pm

Liverpool Football Club - Games

Postby devaney » Wed Dec 26, 2018 8:32 am

Rafa is hurting at the moment and that is no good thing for Liverpool’s chances when they meet Newcastle at Anfield on Boxing Day. I fully expect Liverpool to win but it may not be as easy as some fans are expecting. We need to continue with our ultra mean defensive style and slot our chances on goal more efficiently. This is possibly an opportunity to improve our goal difference and just maybe get further away from Manchester City because I think they will be in for a tough time at Leicester.

51 points from 19 games would be a phenomenal achievement !! We’re only half way through the season but I can’t remember being so excited at this stage of the season for a very very long time !!

Most wont agree with me, in fact, after City's result during the weekend, even I'm not so sure if we should tempt fate and play with our good fortune, but IMO we could rest our main 11 for this one, or at least as many players as we can.

             Alisson

Clyne   Lovren   Virgil   Robo

            Henderson

      Wijnaldum     Lallana

             Shaqiri

         Origi   Sturridge

I don't really expect Klopp to be that cocky and go with this, but with so many games this month, and with Arsenal and City coming up next in a space of just a few days, I'm pretty sure we'll rest a few players for this one, albiet probably not so drastically.

This one could be tricky, Newcastle will probably go with 5 at the back not that it matters because regardless of formation every Newcastle player will be behind the ball. Around their box space is going to be at a premium. That first goal is going to be crucial and the longer it takes us to get it the edgier everyone will become.

No way!
If anyone can spoil our party it's Rafa and his team. He would tailor his strategy for us.

We have to throw the kitchen sink at these before taking lads off to rest. Wouldn't be surprised if we take a 3-0 lead by half time then park the bus. Fine by me. Always nice to see Rafa.

When you look at Newcastle's results against the other top sides Rafa's ability to organise teams and make it difficult for the opposition really stands out, we saw it ourselves countless times here against the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea etc etc.

Newcastle 1 - 2 Tottenham
Newcastle 1 - 2 Chelsea
Arsenal 2 - 1 Newcastle
Newcastle 1 - 2 Man City
Man United 3 - 2 Newcastle

Yes Newcastle lost them all but they are all tight games with only 1 goal separating the sides, they recently got a draw at Goodison as well which isn't the easiest place to go. Even when he's only got a shoestring budget to work with Rafa doesn't make it easy for anyone, including the top sides.

No time to fook around, most important is to get the 3 points, keep up the momentum and keep the pressure on the chasers. Rest players when we're 3-0 up as Reg says.

I'd save Lovren for Arsenal on Saturday and Man City on Thursday and play Fabinho in his place. He tends to get injured when he has to play a lot of games in a short period and with Gomez and Matip injured we can't afford to lose him. I'd also have Keita and Mane in place of Origi and Lallana but agree with the rest of the team. Rafa has been talking about using the squad in this period so it wouldn't surprise me if he treats this game as a free hit and holds some players back for Watford on Saturday.

HT 1-0 and 1-1 at City.

Been decent 1st half trying hard to get the 2nd goal, no real threat from Newcastle.

Spurs scoring another 3 to add to the 6 they put past Everton and there's still 45 minutes left to go, they are certainly in good goalscoring form that mob.
With Arsenal and City our next 2 games we just need to make sure we win though.
