BIRMINGHAM CITY VS LIVERPOOL - 12 september 2010 : 16.00 ko

Liverpool Football Club - Games

Postby Red H » Fri Sep 10, 2010 12:10 am

4-4-1-1
               Reina

    Johnson   Carragher   Agger   Konchskey

     Cole     Meireles    Poulsen    Jovanavic

                     Gerrard

                            Torres

Could just as easy be 4-2-3-1 with Cole and Jovanavic pushed on.  Looking forward to seeing Meireles in a red shirt.

Same lineup except Babel or Maxi for Cole since he's suspended, I think we'll win comfortably.

yeah a team we haven't beaten in the league since 2004. they also haven't lost at home for a year. we don't just have a divine right to go there and win.

No no I agree that they arent going to be easy, and I dont expect us to go there with the divine right to win.

But saying we will lose against birmingham because our personnel cant handle 4-4-2 is a bit silly no?

Fair enough, perhaps it was a little extreme to suggest we'll lose if we play 4-4-2.  :D

But i do believe our squad isn't suited to playing that formation.  We do have lots of good players, just not neccesarily the right ones to fit that system.

If we had some pacey wingers and a bit more aerial dominance up front, it could work quite well.

Yeah I agree with that, wingers are probably the key to 4-4-2 and we dont really have a natural winger. Man United can pull off 4-4-2 because they have Valencia and Nani bombing it down the flanks all the time!

Who combats the aerial threat of Zigic ? Think the big Greek may start this game

Read my mind - The Greek should start instead of Cara and that would be the ideal starters. I think we should really take into consideration the lack of threat our CB are offering on attack at Set pieces ,Carra and Skertel have nothing to offer their. Almost all other Team's CB net a few headers during the season and that's another component we are totally lacking. Another point for Roy to think about...

Although players at the height of 6"8 do tend to be threats, Zigic had a compelte shocker in their last game and was cleary not adjusted to their style of play.

Their main threat is down the flanks, if they get past our fullbacks they can cause bigg problems.

Luckily we have salcido.

Sorry, Konchesky :)

This game will be hard and looking at it realistically we'll probably draw. 1 - 1, 2 - 2 is my thought. Dont get me wrong I want us to win but I doubt that we will. As for the formation we'll probably play this:

                                                                Reina

                                Johnson          Carra              Agger       Konchesky

                                                     Poulsen         Meireles

                         Maxi                                                                Jovanovic

                                                     Gerrard

                                                    Torres

Or if the manager is unsure about the new guys duo Poulsen-Meireles and would rather play Gerrard there then it might look like this:

                                                                     Reina

                                        Johnson        Carra            Agger       Konchesky

                                                          Gerrard             Meireles

                                   Maxi                                                            Jovanovic

                                                                      Babel

                                                                      Torres

Both have their own risks and it will be tough to choose the right formation and line - up. We also have some new players and we have some starters that wont play this one so it is a bit complicated and it will be a very hard game and thats why I think we'll draw.

Quote (Red H @ Sep. 10 2010,00:10)
4-4-1-1
              Reina

   Johnson   Carragher   Agger   Konchskey

    Cole     Meireles    Poulsen    Jovanavic

                    Gerrard

                           Torres

Could just as easy be 4-2-3-1 with Cole and Jovanavic pushed on.  Looking forward to seeing Meireles in a red shirt.
