Sending out an SOS - we need Bermenstein. I reckon it was a manc or bitter plot and they've kidnapped him, or worse still killed him, or worse even still, taken him over to the dark side.
The way we're playing it could be a poor performance and any result, or we could play well and not win, I don't know which is worse.
Our record against brum under Rafa is not great, P8 W2 D4 L2.
PREM 2004/05 - lost home and away
PREM 2005/06 - drew home and away
FAC 2005/06 - won 7-0 away in the cup
LC 2006/07 - won 1-0 away in the cup
PREM 2007/08 - drew home and away
So we've yet to beat brum in SIX head to head meetings in the league under Rafa. I think we might this time, but then I thought we might beat Fulham, Sunderland, Lyon (home or away) and villa but we didn't.
Is it "must win", well naturally when you've lost as many games as you've won then draws and defeats aren't going to improve things. Despite being more or less out of contention for the league, we are still in the shake-up for a top four place
1. Chelsea P11 PTS 27 (GD +20)
2. Man Utd P11 PTS 25 (GD +12)
3. Arsenal P10 PTS 22 (GD +19)
4. Man City P10 PTS 19 (GD +7)
5. Tottenham P11 PTS 19 (GD +4)
6. Liverpool P11 PTS 18 (GD +9)
7. A Villa P11 PTS 18 (GD +4)
8. Sunderland P11 PTS 17 (GD +3)
9. Stoke P11 PTS 16 (GD -2)
All the second group are within three points of the side in fourth. I've not put Citeh in the top group as they would need to win and have a sizeable shift in GD (+/- 12) to go third so I consider that a gap of more than just three points, likewise Stoke (+/- 9) You could factor in Citeh's game in hand, but the gap is based on one result shift not two results
How many of us thought we'd be worrying about finishing fourth rather than hoping we'd mount a title challenge? Was it hope or expectation? I certainly didn't think we'd be nine points behind after just 11 games (and 11 GD)
