Well I haven't the foggiest idea who'll end up buying us, and as I know nothing about any of the potential purchasors I'm just going to cross my fingers and hope for the best.

I do know this though about another thing which cropped up in discussions. If Rafa had gone on holiday to Wales, he's have been "one of us", if he'd had a pint in the local working mans he's have been a hero, if him and Montse had had some fish and chips on the beach it would have been a sign of his humility. How times and people change.

So  much conjecture, rumours, smoke and mirrors it's impossible to know what to think to be honest. I actualloy hope this takes a couple of months to sort out. Screw getting a deal done quickly so we can get players in before the transfer window closes. This is much bigger than that and I hope Broughton and the board take their time looking over the bids, investigating the groups/individuals involved and go through everything in minute detail. Basically doeverything that Moores and Parry did not do.

I personally like the idea of the Chinese bid but it hardly sounds water tight from what i've read. Likewise, the Syrian isn't necessarily a bad one because it was brokered by that little snake Gillette. We simply don't know and all the 3rd party gossip that gets spouted on the likes of I.T.k is to be taken with a MASSIVE pinch of salt. I'm just happy that something seems to be happening now, a few days ago it seemed we were stuck for the forseeable future but it's been a really good couple of weeks with Cole signing, Stevie and then Torres commiting themselves to the club and then this.

I just hope their is enough money available for Hodgson to go out and buy a viable backup to Torres and then if needs be, get by with what we have until the January window when hopefully this mess will be sorted out.

good post scott. my feelings too. would much refer a thourough investigatetion of all parties and full background checks, even if it takes 3 months, rather than rushing things though in 3 weeks, so we can buy players in this transfer window.

In a statement released overnight by his public relations company the Canadian-based businessman said he had reached agreement on a price with the Americans and that a formal purchase agreement is being prepared.

According to the statement he has promised to clear Liverpool's debt with its bankers and to provide the investment required to build the new Anfield in Stanley Park.

The statement said: “Yahya Kirdi, who represents a select group of investors from the Middle East and Canada, confirmed today that his group is in advanced negotiations with Thomas Hicks and George Gillett, co-owners of Liverpool Football Club, to purchase 100% of the Club.

“Agreement has been reached on all major terms including the purchase price, repayment of the existing bank debt from RBS and Wells Fargo and financing of a new stadium in Liverpool’s Stanley Park. A formal purchase agreement between the parties is in the final stage of negotiation.

“Mr. Kirdi is a resident of Canada and a former Syrian National Football Team player who oversees investments in Europe and North America on behalf of his investor group.

Mr Kirdi said: “Liverpool is a massive football club with passionate and proud fans in Merseyside and in every part of the world. With additional money to improve the squad and financing in place to build the new stadium, LFC will be on a solid foundation to compete in the Premiership and in Europe for years to come.”

Kirdi’s public statement of is an intriguing twist in the battle for control at Anfield coming three days after Chinese businessman Kenneth Huang made his bid for the club public at the beginning of the week.

Kirdi has previously been dismissed as a serious bidder by the club, but when his renewed interest was reported in a Sunday newspaper last week it prompted Huang to go public with his bid.

Tellingly Kirdi claims to be in negotiations with the American owners directly, rather than in talks with club chairman Martin Broughton and Barclays Capital (BarCap), the investment bank appointed to oversee the sale of the club.

Huang by contrast initially approached the club’s bank RBS, which has lent the club and the owners £237m, in an attempt to force a sale on the Americans. He then opened talks with Broughton and BarCap.

Broughton and BarCap were appointed in April after RBS demanded that the Americans sell the club as a condition of extending a financing agreement.

That extension expires in October but Broughton is hopeful of completing a sale this month. Kirdi’s statement will be dismissed by some as an attempt to drive up the price being offered by Huang, but the owners and Broughton have always maintained that there is more than one interested and genuine potential buyer.

Im not saying I trust this Huang fella Scott but anyone whos mates with George Gillet & son should be given a massive swerve, and would be like having Gillet & Hicks still in charge I also think Gillett would stay onboard in some capacity with this Kirdi fella, there is no proof this fella has the money to take us forward the same goes for Huang. We need to know the ins & outs of any bid and see proof of cash and not credit notes like Hicks & Gillett produced when they took over.

Yeah, I'm worried that Gillette (or Hicks) might find a way to stay tied to the club in some way but i'd hope that Broughton and any potential buyer would be aware that this would mean continued resentment from the fans and would be a massive PR gaffe. We've basically got to put all our trust in Broughton. Whoever comes in to buy the club has to clear the debt entirely I think, It can't be leveraged in any way because I suspect the club will need to borrow (no matter who comes in) in order to build the new stadium.

We'll see how it all pans out. It still wouldn't surprise me if it all falls through. I'm still waiting for a confrimation email to say my new unofficial LFC shirt is ready to be sent out. I still don't (at this moment) see any reason not to go ahead and buy one.

I guess we just cross our fingers and wait.

Martin Broughton's the most important in Liverpool's summer of big decisions

This summer has not gone badly for a side which finished seventh in the Premier League last season. An England international, a three-time Premier League title winner once regarded as the most naturally gifted player in the country, has decided to join. The club captain, at his best a force of nature coveted by the world’s grandest clubs, has decided to stay. So too the planet’s best striker. Unlikely as it seemed when Liverpool trudged off the field at the KC Stadium in May, their impotence in front of goal condemning them to failure in their attempt to leapfrog Aston Villa into sixth, the decisions have gone in Liverpool’s favour over the last two months.

None, though, are quite as important as the decision which may not just define Liverpool’s season, but its future. The big decision is yet to be made. If the club’s fans had been on tenterhooks for weeks over what choice Joe Cole would make, and months over what the fates of Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres would be, they have been waiting for three and a half long years for the conclusion which Martin Broughton hopes to arrive at in the next 10 days.

What do we know so far, then, of his options? First there is Kenny Huang, the Chinese entrepreneur backed by a sovereign wealth fund, the first to show his hand. His plans are detailed and deliberate: push through a deal at a reasonable price by using leverage gleaned from the Royal Bank of Scotland. He has already made contact with Broughton and Barclays Capital, the bank running the sales process, but he does not have the favour of current owners Tom Hicks or George Gillett.

Then there are the more reserved Rhone Group and the al-Kharafi family, of Kuwait. The former were contacted by Liverpool and informed the club that their interest in taking at least a stake in the club remains strong. The latter are reported to have made contact with Broughton and Barcap. Both are possibilities at this stage, nothing more.

And, of course, there is Yahya Kirdi. A press release issued by a PR firm engaged by the Syrian-Canadian businessman in the early hours of this morning – strange time to announce the biggest deal in world football – confirmed that: “Agreement has been reached [with Hicks and Gillett] on all major terms including the purchase price, repayment of the existing bank debt from RBS and Wells Fargo and financing of a new stadium in Liverpool’s Stanley Park. A formal purchase agreement between the two parties is in the final stages of negotiation.”

Game over, then? Kirdi’s offer, on behalf of a Syrian/Canadian consortium, has the support of Hicks and Gillett, who he approached directly, rather than going through Broughton and Barcap. He is the preferred bidder of Liverpool’s American owners. A formal purchase agreement would mean he effectively controls the club. All seems in order.

It is here that Broughton must make a decision. Assuming – and we must – that Kirdi’s bid is legitimate, and not a stalling tactic designed by the current regime to artificially inflate Huang’s bid, or that of Rhone or the al-Kharafis, Broughton has made it abundantly clear that it is the club’s board, not its owners, who will vote through any sale. Control rests, effectively, with Broughton, managing director Christian Purslow, and commerical director Ian Ayre.

Broughton has also pointed out on many occasions that the best bid for the club is what he is interested in – after all, his reputation rests on the new owners’ long-term success, not short-term profit – rather than the highest offer. Hicks and Gillett, naturally, would not take that stance. They want to make money from the sale of a club they have run into the ground.

Yet it is Kirdi who, it seems, already has the support of two of those votes on the board – should, indeed, the matter be put to the vote. By winning favour with the Americans, it can be assumed that Kirdi’s is the highest offer. By voting it through, Broughton runs the risk of being seen to renege on his initial promise, of sacrificing Liverpool on the altar of the Americans’ greed.

There have been plenty of doubts over Broughton’s intentions – and, at times, his ability – since he was brought to Hicks and Gillett by Michael Klein, the former Wall Street superstar and a close friend of both the British Airways chairman and the Texan. He is approaching his day of reckoning. If the decision is his to make, he must make the right one.  The world is watching.

Sky Sports just now keith Harris is saying he is representing another group of investors who are making or have made a bid, but they will not go public with it just yet. Also said Huangs bid is far to low and will not be accepted, So he's not representing Kirdi or Huang
