Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard has announced that he is signing for bitter rivals Manchester United once the transfer window re-opens.

But don't worry. The public admission was made by the England international while on a shopping trip in Manchester and not on Sky Sports or the BBC.

Asked by a couple of cocky kids when he'd be signing for Fergie, Gerrard replied: "Next week and I can't wait."

The incident was picked up by one of today's national newspapers so be warned if the Gerrard to Old Trafford rumours suddenly appear. Fortunately the newspaper in question made sure that Gerrard's words were reported in the manner that they should be, in that they weren't to be taken seriously!

in my eyes steven gerrard is a legend, and i`ve watched most of them.
but he wants to win things.
well in my eyes he won two of the biggest prizes in the lottery of life when he was firstly gifted with his ability and then secondly used it to pull on that red jersey.
i`d understand if he played for bournemouth or something, but if a born and bred scouser leaves his hometown club for one of its main rivals well in my eyes abramovitch has bought the one thing left in the game i thought was unbuyable..................pride in who you are and where you are from.

Give Rafa a £60M war chest and you won't see Gerrard leaving for a lesser team (incl. Chelsea). We need to seroiusly back up the club's ambition with some serious money.
However, if Gerrard does go, he will be replaced, not individually but by a more balanced team. In Rafa we trust...

He's so attached with the club. But love can change to hate. I don't know. I don't like seeing him leaving. I think he gives a lot of hope for the young Liverpool lovers out there. He's their idol. But, no player can be above the club, totally agreed.
