Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Kaka is really struggling at Real and he looks rather ordinary when playing next to Ronaldo. I think he's been dropped a few times as well.

Benitez is going to R Madrid my hairy a*se! He's doing a brilliant job with the Reds anyway. And R Madrid has nothing to do with him. Let 'em keep Kaka, Pellegrini and Ronald 'McDonald' if they want, but the reds will always beat the c*ap> out of them!!

:upside:
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

do you understand the meaning of the word paranoid, I suspect you don't. I'm really starting to think you might be one of the most stupid posters on this forum and I mean that in terms of intelligence. You constantly misunderstand posts to the point that it either has to be a wind up or sheer bloody stupidity, quite incredible. Also it might help if you actually stay on one side of the fence instead of jumping over it ever 5 minutes.

I love Rafa, I hate Rafa, I love Rafa, I hate Rafa. It's so hard to keep up.

Apparently you care enough to just keep going on one of your wind ups.

This habit you have of bickering for the sake of it is more than tiresome.

Pack it in.

Change a name or two and this could be Rafa's epithet rather than Houlliers :-

Football: TOLOSE LE PLOT!; ANFIELD CRISIS: LIVERPOOL HAVE JUST SIX DAYS TO SAVE THEIR SEASON Houllier feels the strain as he is let down by his players, his tactics and his results.

Byline: David MADDOCK
THIS summer should have been the time when Gerard Houllier got out the cigars to reflect on the fulfilment of his life's dream.

Instead the Liverpool manager will be left to sift through the ashes of a disastrous campaign, left to engineer the rebirth from those ashes of a side he thought was ready for glory.

Despite his side's dramatic under-achievement, Houllier will be in charge at Anfield this summer to execute those changes, defying the increased mutterings about the supposed appointment of a new manager.

Houllier has the backing of his board and he will be given the funding in the close season to continue his search for the Holy Grail of the Premiership and European honour.

The job he now has on his hands means he will be forced to make significant changes in the summer, because the side in which he invested so much faith - and money - has let him down.

Liverpool are engulfed by talk of crisis because the players the manager really believed would take the final step towards greatness did not have the bottle to do so.

Of course the manager is guilty himself of mistakes - tactically, in selection and certainly in the transfer market. But his biggest mistake was to put too much faith in his players and to stick by them when it became glaringly obvious to others, even within his own squad, that changes had to be made.

If Houllier's problem was in being too loyal to players who were not achieving, then his other weakness is a reliance on tactics that have become simply too predictable and which fail to produce the sort of football for which Liverpool are famous.

Arsenal, Manchester United, Newcastle, and in a wider arena sides like Real Madrid and Barcelona, have proven you must play stylish, attacking football to succeed. Liverpool, by contrast, have lacked flair, imagination and width.

Liverpool play deep, because their central defenders do not like playing on the turn. That means midfielders sit deep too, leaving a big gap between them and the forward line, which is bridged too often by aimless long balls.

To change things, Houllier needs to bring in defenders more comfortable with going forward without resorting to hoofing the ball, and he also needs to find midfield players who can offer width and creativity, the lack of which has been a criticism of Liverpool from day one of the season.

The manager's dogged preference for a diamond formation in midfield has left him bereft of width - a problem United and Arsenal (Robert Pires and Freddie Ljungberg) do not have. He has since modified the system but John Arne Riise and El Hadji Diouf
are still not doing the job.

The manager also needs to decide on his best players and their best positions and keep them there. Too often, players have been played out of position, with Emile Heskey  , for instance, being confined to the flanks for the first half of the season, although many would suggest they now know why after his recent switch back into the middle.

Houllier's rotation policy has baffled his own players more than the opposition, with Houllier failing to use the same starting line-up for months - even years - at a time.

It is difficult to read his mind on this issue. He may fear player burn-out after having problems with the fitness of Michael Owen and Steven Gerrard , but his constant tinkering has damaged any hope of consistency.

Tactics aside, however, his biggest mistakes have been in the transfer market. Quite simply, many of his buys have not been good enough. Not by a long way.

They have failed to make an impact in the Premiership, a situation not helped by the loss of form suffered by two of his key senior players.

Owen has struggled for goals and Gerrard also struggled for a while. Both are back to something like their best now, but Houllier still knows that he needs better players as back up, and more quality throughout the team where it has been levelled that players such as Cheyrou, Traore, Smicer, Biscan and Diao are simply not good enough. Last summer, Houllier merely added squad players to his rota. That mistake will not be repeated. Houllier has not named names, but he offers enough hints to draw up a pretty accurate short-list short-list of players to be shown the door.

It is a shame that after 5 years we still don't have the strength in depth required to challange and what's worse we have a handful of teams that could force us out of a European place. Maybe it's time for a change Saint but for now the bigger issue is the ownership of the club as that directly affects our transfer ambitions.

Keep it handy, you could sell it to various websites and all they'll need to do is change names!  :D

What worried me with Houllier was him going out and buying so many kids for the future, young players who gave us a huge squad which has never really been reduced but with little or no prospect of being good enough for the present. Thrown in a penchant for mediocre Frenchmen and French league players with other mediocre sourced players and you can see where it went wrong.
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

or rather we don't have the squad to chellenge  consistently

we have a lesser squad  and lesser wages than at least 2 or 3  teams which will become 3 to 5 teams in coming seasons unless there is investment

FAO Lakes , remember the other day when you said there were reports of Rafas reps meeting Madrid , well hes a little bit of an email i had when i asked my friend if it was true

(but I don't think that this is true. Real Madrid was out of the Champions last week and this is a way to confuse the people to not talk about the Champions and talk about other matters but I think Benitez is really in love with Liverpool...:) )

Will that do for you . :;):
