Really and what direction would that be mate ? What's the next step d'yer reckon ? Top manager , top signings , maybe no signings but keep the players we've got , bit of a transfer kitty maybe , what mate . Where are the positives in this?

Agreed Igor, for me there's absolutely no excitement to be had out of this whatsoever

I'd condone the sacking of Rafa in the right circumstances but this certainly aint them

Any manager that tried to sell our lynchpin (Alonso) to PART fund the useless Gareth Barry, then when Alonso left spent 38m on an injury prone replacement and a full back (when we had so many other problems) deserves the sack.

A shame he'll take millions from the club before he'll go but that's greed for you.

Well f*cking name them then and stop acting like a total simpleton. We've signed some absolute sh*te, but who hasn't? You tell me one manager who hasn't had them. You won't because you can't. You sign sh*te because the simple fact is if you've only a budget to spend on vital areas, youre going to invest there, and the rest gets spread thin in other areas for back ups such as Degen, Voronin, and N'Gog et al. Sh*t investment = sh*t players. Pull your head from your hole.

Calm down dude, we've signed more tosh than the bil... I'm startnig to doubt whether or not you've actually ever seen us play recently the way you go on.

Liverpool FC today confirmed that Rafael Benitez is to leave the club by mutual consent.

Mr Benitez relinquishes his position as team manager after six years and the Board of Directors would like to place on record their grateful thanks for his services and wish him all the best in his future career.

The Board has now asked Managing Director Christian Purslow, with the assistance of Club Ambassador Kenny Dalglish, to begin a formal search to identify and assess potential candidates for the managerial position.

No timescale has been placed on the process and Liverpool FC will make no further statement until a new manager is appointed.

LFC Chairman Martin Broughton said: "Rafa will forever be part of Liverpool folklore after bringing home the Champions League following the epic final in Istanbul but after a disappointing season both parties felt a fresh start would be best for all concerned.''

Rafael Benitez said: "It is very sad for me to announce that I will no longer be manager of Liverpool FC. I would like to thank all of the staff and players for their efforts.

"I'll always keep in my heart the good times I've had here, the strong and loyal support of the fans in the tough times and the love from Liverpool. I have no words to thank you enough for all these years and I am very proud to say that I was your manager.

"Thank you so much once more and always remember: You'll never walk alone."

Shanks went backwards. Fergie went f*cking backwards from last year. Sack him! Wenger went backwards once or twice I think. I dunno. Maybe.

backwards 1st to 2nd and backwards out of CL can't even beat Hull are 2 different things.

We sucked, no flair, no desire, the players looked lost on the pitch.. we need change on the pitch and we need a new gaffer to try something different.

I did. But did you watch us play the season before that? And before that? 2 years of zero investment will invariably catch up on any side. I seem to recall injuries to key players too. Doesn't matter. Next season expect more of the same.

yep sacked for that alone, disgusting stuff eh? not like spending £28m on an Argentine midfielder who didnt cut it or £30m on a Ukranian striker in twilight of hiis career...

Its called a contract..... They gave him this contract.  They're sacking him and to add insult to injury, they can't even afford to pay the man off.

If you signed  a 4 year contract with your employer and they sacked you after 1 year, would you tell em to "keep their money"?
