I am not expecting to win the premiership.

But i do expect us to challenge.
I dont expect our nearest rivals to be Everton and Villa and to be worryingly at times looking at Birminghams results.
I dont expect to get battered in a weakish champions league group, losing half of the games.
I dont expect to play Reading twice and be knocked out at home in the FA cup.

All these things add up.

You are using the fact that we havent as many 20 million pound players as an excuse to why we arent competing.
Well we have spent a sh!t load more than Birmingham and Everton over the years, yet they competed with us.

Spot on there, peeps can complain about H&G, lack of investment etc, etc, but even if we did not have the squad to win the title we should have at least been 4th, losing ground to Spurs, City, Villa and almost Everton and getting knocked out of the UCL and the FA cup by teams of Championship and mid table premier league standard is not on. Only one person to blame for this and thats the manager.

Record signings by league position

1. Chelsea : £30m Shevchenko
2. Man Utd : £30.75m Berbatov
3. Arsenal : £15m Arshavin
4. Tottenham : £16.5m Bent
5. Man City : £32.5m Robinho
6. A Villa : £12m Milner
7. Liverpool : £21m Torres
8. Everton : £15m Fellaini
9. Birmingham : £4.75m McFadden
10. Blackburn : £8m Cole
11. Stoke : £5.5m Kitson
12. Fulham : £11.5m Marlet
13. Sunderland : £12m Bent
14. Bolton : £10m Elmander
15. Wolves : £6.5m Doyle
16. Wigan : £6m N'Zogbia
17. West Ham : £9m Nsereko
18. Burnley : £3m Fletcher
19. Hull : £5m Bullard
20. Portsmouth : £8.1m Utaka (?)

Point being very few Premiership sides have paid £16m+ for a player and we've done it several times and FOUR of our current squad cost that. And of course some of the teams with record fees of less than £10m beat us or drew with us, so the money excuse won't wash.

We spend more than Arsenal in terms of transfer fees, they finish higher and have a brilliant new stadium. Villa do spend some money on players, but their spending is not that excessive and had we beaten Hull on the last day we'd have finished above them.

And teams like Stoke and Brum finished mid-table, maybe a fair few points behind us, but their spending is token compared to Rafa's
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

interesting that one, owzat. the three players who have cost 30 million or above in the table are the three who have arguably made the least impact on their respective clubs. its not just about spending money its about spending it wisely.

From what I read, Inter asked Mourinho if he left who would he recommend to take over. Mourinho suggested the Bayern manager or Hiddink. He could have suggested Rafa....... now I know why people think Mourinho is a b@stard   :D

Lots of "rumours" insights into the mind of the manager coupled with countless disparaging remarks little input regarding football .

Maybe you're not inviting football discussion Mick ?

Question to all the antis. What exactly do you hope to acheive by this continuous moaning about how Rafa is not the right man for the job?

I realise as fans everyone is entitled to an opinion but most of you spent pretty much all of last season ramming it down our throat. The season is over and we are soon going to be headed into a new one with probably the same manager. Are you going to continue with this nonsense waiting to say 'I told you so' or are you going to put that aside and get behind the manager.

And Mick you say this place is devoid of football talk? Is that a :censored: joke mate? No one wants to talk football here these days because it's all anti rafa rafa rafa. It's boring mate, leave it alone now.

Mods can you just lock this topic and shut down any newley created Rafa topics until the world cup starts? I don't think anyone is gaining anything from this thread except a headache.
