Reds bid for Morientes - reports

Liverpool have reportedly made a £3.5million bid for Real Madrid striker Fernando Morientes.

According to BBC Sport, Anfield have been told to double their bid for the 28-year-old who featured as competition top-scorer in last year's UEFA Champions League while on loan with finalists Monaco.

Morientes has expressed his frustration at being number four striker at the Bernabeu - behind Ronaldo, Raul and Michael Owen.

The French outfit are apparently the Spanish international's first choice to relocate to, but he has indicated that he would consider a move to the Kop.

Morientes said: "To play for Liverpool would please any player and they have a technical coach in Rafa Benitez, who I have always appreciated.

"But there are a lot of things to sort out. I haven't spoken directly with Benitez but I know Liverpool want me.

"I had a good time in Monaco last season but I have not heard anything from them lately.

"My situation is difficult but Madrid know they must do something about me."

I'd rather take Anelka because for two reasons that have been stated already. One, he has the Premier League experience and two, he is not cup tied.

personally i think we are gonna get both, plus ayala, but thats just dreaming maybe

Add SWP and it will be a complete list

2 Striker, 1 defender & 1 right winger.

SWP is overpriced, who are Man City trying to fool here?

I think Anelka misses too many chances, yeah he scores quite a few but he also misses them too where Morientes will tuck them away given the opportunity and thats what we need right now cos the amount of games we could have won this season if we'd taken the chances are unbelieveable, Birmingham and Bolton are just two that spring to mind that that could be 6 points which could have put us into 4th or 5th

Maybe we should not build morientas into something he is not. I mean if he was such a great finisher, he would surely be in front of raul rite ?

If morientas comes here (and we hype him like we did cisse), he would find it hard to please us.

He would be adapting to a new league & he does not have good pace.

I don't think he will score as many goals like owen & fowler did for us. I would love to be proved wrong though.....

All in all, if we do get morientas, hope he will be available to play against chelsea.
