On BBC website:  "Spoken to a couple of French Ligue 1 sporting directors - they expect some very late deals involving Premier League clubs but Rennes midfielder Yann M'Vila, linked with Liverpool".

Tough, highly-rated young French international defensive midfielder anyone??  Main concern is that Woy was apparently over checking him out in November.

Is it still premature to start a Charlie Adam thread?

Every one is excited over the Suarez and (possible) Carrol deals BUT with Konchesky gone on loan and Glen Johnson currently filling in at left back  shouldn't we have been thinking of sorting out the LB situation ? . It's probably too late now or is it ?. Either way most succesful teams are built on a solid defense and right now imo the money offered for Carrol could have been more wisely spent.

ive been thinking the same thing Woof, hence why talks of player exchange with Chelsea were around, i was hoping we took Zhirkov instead of one of their strikers. the only back up we have for Johnson is Aurelio who is often injured god knows why.

CB should have been a priority imo... Skrtel has proven to be a liability in many occasions..
Carra injured and running out of time.. A huge part of his game is about energy and with his age and now injuries it'll be tough for him to play week in week out at the highest level..
Agger good, solid defender but injury prone.. Also not the best defender around when dealing with quick players..

What stands out is our vulnerability aerially at the back.. Crosses are a big problem and to compound the issue its not Reina's strongest suit either..

LeftBack is another problematic area for us.. For all of Kelly's development, Johnson is still our best option at Rb... He offers much more than Kelly going forward and his lack of defensive awareness is more than compensated by his attacking abilities in many games against the smaller sides..   We have the injury prone Aurelio as the only LB in the club who while being good enough doesnt seem to be that highly rated by Kenny..  There are a few good leftback in the market we could have gone for who wouldnt have cost that much..

Anyways, happy we signed/are linked with Carrol, Suarez and Adam but think we should have looked to improve our backline since it's probably our main weakness this season..

Yeah mate. Look at our defence.

An ageing Carragher, an often injured Agger, a less than consistent Skyrtel, a "still learning his trade" Kelly and a now playing out of position at LB Johnson.

Doesn't matter how much class we may or may not have have going forward if the defence isn't sorted you'll always suffer.

I think our defence will hold up, Agger has been class since coming in and I expect that to continue, Johnson has looked solid at LB and Kelly is solid at RB, that just leaves Carra/Skrtel as our weak link but even then, they can manage.  We can manage till the end of the season Kenny is changing a lot of things that aren't exposing our weaknesses at the back as much as Roy was.  Two clean sheets in a row should show that much at least.

Taking Warnock back from Aston Villa would have been a good signing.
