                                         Yossi

                                            Torres.

Last time Alonso started a game we lost, what has he done to warrant a starting place against Chelsea, he's been sluggish and slow and his passing has been poor, he wouldnt add anything to the center of midfield, our best pairing is Mascha and Gerrard, and I wouldnt want to see that part of the spine broken up to let an underperforming Xabi come back in.

Maybe bring him on as a sub if we're winning, but thats about it for me.

The same thing could be said about Kewell aswell, I dont think he warrants a startung place.

I do like the look of Yossi behind Torres but I'd opt for Crouch I think with Yossi there Chelseas midfiled and defence will make that area of the pitch very conjested, but that is a good option for other matches.

Because Gerrard is our best option on the right.

We need a bit of steel in the centre against these f*ckers, and if Gerrard plays CM and runs off upfield every 2 minutes (as he is prone to doing), Sh*tski will tear us a new a*sehole.

Mascher and Alonso in the middle and Gerrard on the right would offer a much stronger and more effective midfield IMHO.

Cant argue with that, maybe swap gerrard and benayoun or have them inter- change. Kewell usually plays well against Chelsea but on current form I think hes playing every bit as bad as Kuyt, but at least Kuyt has a positive attitude. Id probably play Riise there (famous last words).

FWIW I think Anelka is nailed on to score against us this Sunday ,regardless of the final score. Now off to William Hills....

RAFA BENITEZ today bemoaned the loss of all but seven members of his first team squad to international duty ahead of one of Liverpool's biggest games of the season.

The Reds take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday but Benitez will be unable to work with the majority of players until Friday when they return to Melwood after being away with their countries.

Only Jamie Carragher, Steve Finnan, Jermaine Pennant, Dirk Kuyt, Harry Kewell, Fabio Aurelio and Charles Itandje have remained on Merseyside and the Reds boss admits he is deeply frustrated at the timing of the latest round of international friendly matches.

He said: "You can't see the players and you can't train them and yet we have a very important game coming up against Chelsea in the Premier League.

Should we lose to Chelsea I hope Rafa doesn't blame the internationals.  It takes a bigger man to admit he got it wrong than to blame something else - I've never liked that about Benitez, reminds me too much of Houllier.  We have no excuse if we lose, except that a quality team was better on the day.

Here's the team I'd pick (assuming Arbeloa is still out):

               Reina
Finnan  Carra  Skrtel Riise
Gerrard Alonso Masch Pennant
           Crouch  Torres

but here's what I think Rafa will pick:

                  Reina
Finnan  Carra  Hyppia Aurelio
Pennant  Gerrard Masch  Kewell
             Kuyt  Torres

I'd swap Riise for Aurelio as I think Riise is better defensively but otherwise I agree. I think Aurelio if given a decent  run of games could be the answer to our problems on the left.

On current form we have to expect to get battered, regardless of who you blame. Surely Chelsea will be better than Havant?

Gerrard   Mascha   Alonso    Lucas
Gerrard Mascha    Alonso    Pennant
Gerrard   Mascha   Lucas    Pennant
Pennant   Gerrard   Mascha   Lucas

Clearly it seems that Kewell is not going to recapture any magic, Babel is not a winger and he isn't left footed, but I guess Lucas isn't either but at least he is a midfielder.  Is Lucas a better LM option than Pennant? neither are left footed, and at least Pennant should have a wingers mentality, and even though he knows that his left foot isn't as good he should understand the relaitonship he needs to have with the LB in order to set up him in the right positions to send in crosses, and he is a decent player at cutting in and providing some useful balls form the left even if they are not deep crosses.

Another arguement against Lucas on the left would be that he could be a better CM option that Alonso on current form.  He isn't better than Stevie G, but the overall team might be better off with Gerrard on the right (or the left) with Pennant on the other wing and then Macha and Lucas in the middle.

The other possibilit would take advantage of Gerrards "versatility" which might be somewhat overrated because although he is more than capapble of playing in any role adequetley he can become average in some roles and can develop a bit of a 'tude when he isn't played in his favored CM position.

Reina

Finnan     Carra     Hyypia           Riise

                     Mascherano
          Gerrard                 Alonso

                       Lucas
                 Torres   Crouch

Wingless wonders, I might swop Gerrard and Lucas around, but I would like to see how Lucas take to the role.

Ok i think I would like to see this

                            Reina

Finnan         Carragher          Hyppia       Aurelio/Riise

Pennant         Gerrard          Masherano     Riise/Aurelio

                    Benayoun
                                      Torres

I think it's a pretty balanced line up... not too defensive and not too offensive... all the wingers and fullbacks can cross decently... Benayoun is good at getting into positions to score... he can also use his trickery to open defences... Torres for the last ball... I think that rafa should really try out the triangle of Gerrard, Masherano and Benayoun... it can work out very well in playing a good transitional game from defence to offence... Masherano wins the ball with tireless tackling... Gerrard can then carry the ball and spray it to the wingers or pass it to Benayoun... Benayoun can do some playmaking and torres for the last deadly finish...oh and both gerrard and benayoun to go up and attack the ball when our wingers are crossing...  go for the win rafa!

IN RAFA WE TRUST!!!!! (just to annoy the anti camp  :D )

I have an awful feeling that we are going to get well and truely seen off on Sunday.
Three, even Four nil!
Let's face it our form of late has been bloody awful. Moral is at a low ebb, confidence is non-existant. Against Sunderland we huffed and puffed with no real bite until by chance we scored from an unlikely source, well in fact two unlikely sources: 1. Carragher, beating a man and putting in a superb cross. 2. A meaningful Crouch header, something as rare as hens teeth. Can we expect the unexpected two games on the run ? I doubt it.
We do not have a settled team, far too much rotation, no time to plan and prepare with the majority of players being away this week. Probabaly have key players returning with injury.
There is certainly unrest in the camp. If Rafa is falling out with trusted lieutenants like Alonso then we are in the sh1t !
Sorry, but I can not see any positives going forward into this game, for me I hope London get's three feet of snow on Sunday morning and the game gets called off so that we can save ourselves for Barnsley and more importantly Inter Milan.
