Brendan Rodgers thread (signs extended contract)

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Regardless of what you all think of many of signings who are indeed flops, Brendan has overachieved this season in terms of PL performance. At the start of the season, we would all be happy if we could finish 4th by season end. Now, we're gunning for the title and it's the best chance of winning it in 24 years. The next 6 games will continue to be cup finals and it will be a huge ask to win all 6. We just hope Chelsea, City and Arsenal will drop points and we can get as many points as possible along the way.

Absolute tripe.

Mignolet has been an expensive waste of money and we haven't got value for what we paid for. He's a very average premier league standard goalkeeper and had it not been for the exceptional ability we have to score goals he'd have come in for much more critisism than he has. His positioning is very average, his communication and command of his area are poor and his footwork and kicking leaves a lot to be desired. His arial ability is also very average... poor on occasions.

We DESPERATELY need a better goalkeeper this summer and the target should be Asmir Begovic as the lad simply oozes quality in just about every department. If we fail to sort this out this summer it will cost us next season, just as the defence looks like it will cost us this season.

Scrap that I can't be bothered for the pathetic responses that'll come back.

Time to ignore.

:D

Know what you're saying SCS but not all of what Stu says is hyperbole.

I certainly agree with his observation that

his communication and command of his area are poor and his footwork and kicking leaves a lot to be desired

IMO, Mig doesn't take charge of HIS area and when it comes to his kicking it often seems a 50/50 whether the ball will just be put into touch.

it was the "defence will cost us" statement.

The dope had us finishing 7th of something even as the season was going.

He's been predicting the defence will cost us every week

Well if anything has cost us, it hasn't been the strikers or the midfield   :D

BTW, Mig has done quite well today, playing against the Hammers AND the officials    :D

Very harsh. Mig has come leaps and bounds in terms of commanding his box for corners and his distribution has also really improved. He's also made some excellent stops during the season, and many recently. For 9 million, it's a good deal. Yes, maybe he's not as good as De Gea and Begovic would have probably performed similarly. But the fact is that Mig is the Liverpool player right now.

SCS is quite simply a clueless happy clappy bellend with no clue about the game and quite simply lists sports journalists opinions as his own. He's unable to talk about the game in detail as he clearly doesn't understand it, never has, never will.

On Mignolet, his faults are there for all to see. The objective can see It...

Today he had a better game but was still feeble for their goal, regardless of the foul.

Also, my point about the defence costing us was clearly valid as we've got the best attack in the league, yet we concede more than a goal a game.

Begovic would have performed similarly? To Mignolet? ???

That's like saying Suarez's form has been comparible to Shane Long lad, think you need to clear up that up that statement.

He's given the team a great team spirit, energy, flair and filled the squad with players that truly want to play for the club ( bar Moses). He said it from the beginning that he only wanted players that believed in the cause and that is now paying dividends as there seems to be a great spirit in the whole squad. The team along with manager are young and there is no reason why this team should not go on to improve a take their place back as one of Europes elite.

I'm so happy for CL football next year but we really need to enhance the squad this summer. Frankly I'd trust him to get players that will gel.

Absolute tactical masterstroke bringing Lucas on at half time yesterday. Completely enabled us to gain more possession and control of the game. His in game management has been pretty much spot on ever since that first half horror show against Villa.

Anyone can make an error in judgement though, his tactical displays this season have ranged between fortunate and spot on with only two real disasters (Hull and Villa).

Think he needs another season or two before we can really say he'sgenerally tactically spot on along the lines of the Spaniard, Jose Mourinho or Ancelotti.

His subs are pretty good as well although I do question the "importance" of bringing on Lucas the other day. I thought we were by far the better side in the first half anyway and not much really changed in the second. We lacked a bit of movement in the second through the midfield and it was only due to the full backs stretching the play we were able to improve. Granted Lucas "contributed" to the full backs being able to get higher up the pitch, but I can't call that particular move anything other than ordinary due to the lack of clear cut chances created by ourselves. I think had he taken off Sturridge off the other day and played with Suarez through the middle with Sterling and Coutinho either side we'd have had a better shape. Still, we won the match and thats the most important thing.
