Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I'd definitely take Rodgers over Martinez.  Makes Whelan look like a tool too.  Annoyed me when he was mouthing off on Talksport about Martinez being offered the job and Tuesday.....

Welcome Brendan.

Rodgers left Watford to go to Reading where they changed to a long ball team who were unimpressive to watch and dropped down the championship. He then left to go to Swansea where he picked up where Martinez had got them promoted and just lost in the play-offs. Rodgers had success the following year but with the team that Martinez had built.

I really can't see what Rogers has done to deserve to be our manager.

Really depressed.

Hopefully we will lose our first game and he will be sacked.
Then we can spend the rest of the season looking for a new manager

Brendan Rodgers needs at least more than one season to get his ideas across - lets hope the owners and fanbase show the paitence they couldn't with Kenny to Brendan

Reading the articles someone kindly posted up on here and watching the youtube clip of him on match of the day 3, I am slowly becoming impressed with this man.

I like his philosophy on the game even if, in my view is common sense and how he articulately describes tactics and systems. He is clearly knowledgeable and hungry to succeed. The fact he studies methods on the continent, in particular Spain is a big tick in the box for me which bodes well for when we play in Europe also our transfers.

I think the Pepe will love him as he likes his keeper to act as a sweeper in which Pepe likes to play.

Yes, he is a big gamble, but I have a good feeling about him. If we can get a couple of players like Suarez on the cheap and another DM and a right winger we could be back in business.

But, lakes, you don't understand. When Benny agreed that we are "phucked" and bound for "mediocrity", what he really meant was "spiffing, now everybody let's get behind the new guy, he's going to need patience and he's going to need our support".

Would've thought that was easy enough to suss.  :kungfu:

Rodgers comes across really well in the video.  Ta for the posting.  Good manner too, dwarves the other two [not hard I suppose in Savage's case];  I'm looking forward to seeing the results of his coaching with the Reds.

I'm not going to pretend I'm happy about the appointment and I'm underwhelmed by it all but he is going to get the chance to turn those worries and doubts around.

Rodgers so far has no track record to show he can succeed at a big club but I hope he does well because the club will do well and that is all i care about but I am very worried that it won't work.

I think the two top targets show how far we have fallen down the table and it will be up to Rodgers now to move us back up.

Funny enough, of all the football articles I've read in the last year, the ones about Brendan and his philosophy have impressed me the most.
I had a passing interest as he's from the same part of the world as me.
The man is a real student of the game. He's travelled and taken in new ideas.
He was supposed to spend the summer watching Spain train for the Euros.
A lot of people in the know speak highly of him. Maureen included.

Best of luck to you Brendan. I know the real fans will get behind you. You're a red now.
And I hope the owners give you the time that you will need.

Rodgers is what we need, a new and young manager who's hungry with fresh ideas.

Bar a relelgation fight, he'll be given time to get his ideas across and i imagine the owners will give him this season to bed in, and expect improvements the season after. Welcome aboard Brendan, time to make yourself a legend at the greatest club in the world  :buttrock
