If we can't give him that then what's the point of watching football and supporting Liverpool anymore

Unfortunatly mate people see Chelsea sacking managers on a yearly basis and winning things and the idea sticks in their head.

The need for instant success overrides any want to build - its all about the now and not the next 5 years

so let's see, I'm fairly optimistic

I really hope your right mate - previous experience doesn't point that way.

Great honour for a Northern Irish man to be manager of Liverpool. Biggest link since Elisha Scott. There's an almighty responsibility on his shoulders, he's got an almost impossible task. Lets hope he can pull off a miracle. Good luck.

Rodgers so far has no track record to show he can succeed at a big club but I hope he does well because the club will do well and that is all i care about but I am very worried that it won't work.

I think the two top targets show how far we have fallen down the table and it will be up to Rodgers now to move us back up.

Well, I don't share your vision of an apocalyptic future under Rodgers or your belief that it's necessary to have a track record of success at a big club in order to have success at a big club. There are numerous examples of inexperienced managers making the jump successfully and if Valencia had taken the same view as you they never would have appointed Rafa, the man you most want to see back in charge. Never mind the irony, though, what matters is that he's given the chance by all concerned with the club to prove himself in the job, and the full support of the fans. If you and people who share your view can manage that and maintain your belief that he's a disatrous appointment, fair play to you, but I would have difficulty supporting a manager who I strongly believed was bound to take us even further down the table.

spot on. The board tried it the 'fans way' with Kenny, and it didn't work. They've now taken their own direction and hired the best young manager in the league. I think they've done a great job and look forward to watch us play the sort of football that Swansea did again us on the last day of the season, when they passed us off the park.

A huge gamble this is, but I think we've picked the best choice of the options we had. He looks like the kind of manager we want, young and hungry and prefers passing football. I think the partnership between him and Clarke and Keen will work out great.
But in no way we should expect instant success. This guy MUST be given time in order to succeed. Just one season isn't going to be good enough. Unless he does really REALLY bad, we have to give him at least 2 seasons.
Anyway, welcome to the club Rogers, hope you make us proud  :buttrock

I will support Rodgers because he is the manager of the club I have supported for over 30 years - he gets that support automatically , the same with players who pull on the shirt.

Impressed with that video and how he sees the game.

The good thing about this appointment is the shrewdness. Rodgers isn't a big name, he isn't an ego, but he has a lot of experience for one so young. All the negatives from the "but we wanted rafa boo hoo" crowd can f*ck them-self for all I care. This is a good appointment, and he will play a big part in transforming this clubs future. Everything is now in place for us to get moving forward.

on another note there's rumours going around that Lambert has quit Norwich for refusing him permission to talk to Villa

would be sad if true.

Norwich are a good little club, with a decent following and fair sized ground. Not sure what Villa can offer him, which Norwich can't.

villa are one of the biggest clubs in the country and the biggest club in the second biggest city in britain, if he gets it right there the sky is the limit.
villa have a long and proud history (everton v villa is the most often played top flight fixture in history) and they have also won the european cup.

thats a short term view, villa are a lot bigger club than norwich and given a choice of the 2 clubs you wouldnt get many managers choosing norwich over villa.
villa are like everton, they are a traditional club and a great name in the game where as norwich are really a provincial little club.
it`s not even a choice and obviously lambert feels the same way.

Villa have more borrowing power and risk appetite than Norwich.

Anyway, why are discussing this?
