send in the clowns :D Key is to keep the star players fresh for Tuesday, this result is of no consequence with a home game and spudz away to come and one point needed (to be fourth on GD) Our reserves showed they can get a result at Fulham, brum should be more testing, but really the players should be given the weekend off, maybe a bit of training and tactical planning, so they can focus on what needs to be done. Again I just hope Rafa doesn't give way to temptation and change the side, the slight tinkering over the past couple of CL legs has been costly to varying degrees - cost us a bad start at home to Arsenal, and the reshuffle last night meant Riise came on as Arbeloa was already on.

And as things are shaping up the fixtures that Chelsea whinged about are working in their favour. Had our game been tonight and then on Tuesday we'd have gained an advantage as they are playing their strongest squad as they compete on two fronts. They had a couple of extra days recovery by playing Thursday and have the maximum recovery time possible between playing the mancs and us next week.

I would use something that looked like the Fulham side, only more fringe and ressie looking.
                       Martin
Finnan     San Jose      Hyypia       Insua
               Plessis       Lucas
Pennant         Spearing        Voronin
                     Nemeth
Subs: Gulacsi, Huth, Crouch, Simon, Darby

should still be able to do em in 2-0, Nemeth to open his account.

Gah I don't really care.

Uhh Kuyt, Crouch, Voronin striking with Lucas supporting. The rest will sort itself out.

We only need to rest the XI that will start on Tuesday, better if those that will be on the subs bench play against brum. I'd rather have Crouch and Voronin on the bench with a goal each to their name against brum than play Nemeth and have Crouch and Voronin on the bench at SB with barely any action for near ten days.

And how many games before people give up on trying to put the kids out? Rafa has shown little inclination to do so, maybe when fourth is secure mathematically. And to be honest I think it would be a bit stupid to play the kids now, with games that matter still to come we need the players likely to come in as injury replacements playing games not kids. If Torres tweaks his hamstring we're not going to play Nemeth instead it will be Crouch or Voronin, better if they aren't lacking matches.

I don't know about you, but I would rather Nemeth fill in than Voronin if it came to that.  I was originally trying to think of a 442 with crouch and Nemeth but we are so bad at LM, I guess Nemeth could play the Babel role with Crouch as the lone striker

If it comes to who is likelier to score at SB out of Nemeth and Voronin, I'd have to back Voronin. Maybe not the best striker, but he's age and experience on his side. It's easy to forget he got the only goal in Toulouse and many people don't realise he scored four goals in his first ten appearances for Liverpool. Fair enough they weren't all top drawer clubs he scored against, but that doesn't bother the fans of Crouch........................

I'd play 4-3-3 and start with the seven who will be on the bench on Wednesday. The other four don't really matter who gets the nod, I guess Finnan may well be one of them and we may have to consider the chance Aurelio is out. Nemeth on the bench by all means, but Voronin and Crouch have to start as they will be our bench. I think you're dreaming if you think Nemeth will be on the bench against Chelsea, maybe if an injury or two hit key players

Have to say, I watched the Reserves vs. Wigan the other night and there wasn't a single player who stood out. Not a great sign for next season - can't see very many (if any !) making the step up to the first team...
I haven't seen all the Reserves games this season but I've seen a few...

1-0 to Birmingham. They are absolutely desperate for the win, they have a reasonable record against us (albeit at Anfield), we will be totally distracted by next week's game and some of the players will still be shellshocked after what happened last night.

Totally irrelevant to us in the larger scheme of things.

We need a win, just to raise spirits.

It will make the players feel better to finally wrap up next seasons CL qualification.

The ressie league had already been wrapped up, and we had just played Wigan a week before in the County Cup or something. There was no Pacheco or Bruna, Ayala had his worst game, the captain Darby did not play, San Jose was played out of position, Simon got his first start of the season, Nemeth was taken off early, Hobbs has been on loan for nearly the entire 2nd half of the season, Leto hasn't played since November, Putterill didn't play against Wigan and he had been playing well, Flynn was on the left when his better position is on the right.  Don't judge em on one game, epecially that one. And they still came back and won.
