Cortese is a very slick operator and was instrumental at Southampton.  Brought Pochettino over to them and got deals done for them.  Wouldn't mind him at all

Our club will do this to you

It's becoming a bit of a joke mate, look at all the Southampton players we have either bought or been strongly linked to over the past couple of seasons (Lambert, Lallana, Lovren, Bertrand, Fonte, Rodriguez, Clyne etc) and now we are supposedly being linked to their chief exec?
Even Ings is a product of Southamptons academy.
Our scouting team must live there or something.

Well their current manager is better than our current one, so they're doing something right.
So does an Italian CEO (or whatever title they can dream up) mean that we're heading towards an Italian coach?
You gotta laugh or end up singing looney tunes!

Sami Hyppia threw his hat into the ring last night with the following quotes...

"I would definitely be interested if Liverpool think I could help them. It would be great to work for a club which I love."

"I would be ready to be an assistant. That sort of role would give me a lot of experience. It wouldn’t be a problem for me."

That said the morning papers are heavily linking Pako with a return to the club and some papers still seem to think FSG want Rene Mulensteen

Totally agree, he was the one that put Southampton on the right track and he is pretty ruthless in achieving his goals, sacked Adkins who had just got them back to the PL as he new he wasnt the one to keep them there, he would be a far better CEO than Ayre.

Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen is open to becoming Liverpool's assistant manager, but is yet to receive an approach from the club.

The Dutchman, who went on to manage Fulham briefly after leaving Old Trafford, is reportedly being considered for the role left open after Colin Pascoe was relieved of his duties last week.

While Meulensteen may be a controversial choice for his links with Manchester United and his previous criticism of Brendan Rodgers' lack of investment in backroom staff, he is highly respected in the coaching world.

The 51-year-old is currently working with MLS outfit Philadelphia Union but has a release clause that would enable him to escape if a Premier League club came calling.

And with his family still living in Cheshire, Meulensteen would find it very hard to turn down a job offer in the north-west.

Meanwhile Alex Inglethorpe, the club's academy director, is understood to have shown no interest in stepping up to first-team duties.

I wouldn't mind Meulensteen, he's dutch and his forte is one and two touch football which (if done well) is very hard to defend against. He's always seemed a bit of a grumpy t**t to me as well which is no bad thing when you have a squad like ours who throw the towel in at the slightest setback.

Does anyone not think it a tad silly that they would have canned marsh and pascoe without first having anyone lined up to replace them ? Anyone decent that seems to have expressed an interest have all denied contact with the club.

They have their people already IMO but just not releasing who they are at present.

Naa, that would be daft, they'd never do that.
That would be like selling your best striker without looking into lining up a suitable replacement..... Oh, wait....

Great post apart from its full of guess work - especially the bit about coming 2nd is ALL down to Suarez.. loved that bit.

There are lots of reason why we failed last season and unfortunately for you, we cannot blame them all on Rodgers (Im not going to type them all out again, there is a post earlier on in this thread)

Blaming Rodgers is far too easy, but say we get a new manager.. we would still have the same problems in the background of this club which is currently having a huge affect on the players we can bring in.

Oh and also I joined this forum the same year that Rafa joined the club..I was previously know as Ola Mr Benitez, but Ive forgotten my password...  I havent been on here too much in the past year as it was full of doom and gloom merchants who just wanted us to go out and spend million and millions (ala City and Chelsea) and win the  league.  Oh and probably making Liverpool bankrupt - Doesnt look like the mentality here has changed too much!

Welcome back.

For me...Rodgers has gone too far down the road to turn back. He preferred to play politics instead of continuing with the cards he was dealt with.

If rafa decided to play politics to make a point instead of using traore, biscan, mellor, pongolle, la tellac...etc, would we have won the champions league ?

I said this many times....but is it asking too much to setup the team to play to Balo's or Lambert's strength ? Instead he decided to make a 20 yr old di@khead our marquee player (at the expense of shattering the team morale of this club) and once he got too big for his head, our form dropped tremendously (and Rodgers still continued to pick him).

I want this club to progress. And for that to happen...Rodgers has to be at least 1000 miles away from this club.

But I also understand why quite a lot of our fans want to give him another season. I respect that. I don't like it though.

Anyway...welcome back. I remembered you were one of Rafa's biggest supporters. That's good.  :buttrock

Im not sure I totally agree with you with Rodgers playing politics.. but I agree he has got the Stirling thing wrong.. the only good thing is we should get a good price for him when he is sold.

I think Rafa got it right more than he got it wrong, but he was a bit negative, I like the way Rodgers sets this team up, we are exciting to watch and very attacking.  I sometimes just wish he would take a leaf out of Rafa's book when we are facing teams that are obviously superior to us and learn to play it a bit safer

The football under rodgers is dire  :nod Its all possession based and without players like suarez the attacking is almost non existent. Its routine, routine, routine  :nod
Milner and Ings are workhorses who will just compliment this.

It would seem that not only is there a complete re-shuffle of the deck. But there is a new deck of cards in place.
There is a major re-build happening at LFC and it looks like none trusts BR to lay the cement. So what's the next best thing? Who really knows.
We may not like what we get during this close season, but it is very intriguing the way we're going about it.
FSG don't want to fall into a cliche act of self fulfilled prophecy, so the big climatic 'end of season review' has somewhat fizzled out. But the fall out could be monumental in the history of LFC...
One things for sure, the good 'ol USA know how to put on a show!
The footballing world is watching...
