What are you talking about Arby wanted to go anyway, hes not getting any younger he was never going to turn down a move to Madrid. He was just as suspect at the back too (Arsenal at home?)

All the other top managers make mistakes, but the difference is they have the big cash to be able to go out and make people quickly forget them. But here everyone dwells on them.

Well, I may have it wrong, but I don't believe that it was a nailed on cert that Arbeloa wanted to be off. I think it was akin to Mascherano's situation recently, no?

In other words, he would probably have stayed had the right contract been waved in his face.

That's been my reading of it anyway.

BTW, I am not saying Arbeloa's situation was the same as Alonso's.

Also, again on the money thing. No clubs have been splashing about in recent times, except for City and they're the exception and, it's not as if Benitez has had no money at all to spend. He's burned through millions in his time.

Sure, EVERY manager wants X amount of cash to buy in their dream squad. But, even when he's had money (whether it's 7 million for Dossena or 20 million for Keane or Aqualini) he hasn't done well with what he's got.

Again, it has to be said, was Aqualini the ONLY midfielder we could have got for 20 mil? Was Dossena the ONLY LB we could have got for 7 mil? Was Johnson (who I rate) the ONLY RB we could have got with his cost?

Those type of mistakes can make or break a season.

You lads have to bear in mind the players arent attached to teh club, their motivation is MONEY.

Yes, Masher was gone - he could see how much his mate Tevez was making at Citeh. Liverpool have had to stump up the necessary to keep the lad. Nowt to do with his passion for LFC, but his passion for money.

Arbie knew he was getting on, Johnson was coming in and RM were calling - it was a no brainer.

Sometimes theres so much smoke you cant see infront of your nose - the only thing the papers dont say is what a greedy bunch of w@nkers these lads are!

We have limited funds and he spent about 38m on a full back (who can't defend) and a crock.

I thought that like Alonso, Arbeloa wanted to return to Spain ? I'm sure I read that his wife to be was insisting on it .

Agree that Aqualani's purchase looks bizarre and Johnsons is questionable but lets not start raggin' the manager for selling players who were adamant that they no longer wanted to play for LFC.

Gary McCallister was a great piece of business a few years back.

And this season, michael owen, Viera and Gudjohnsen were all available for cheap enough. Surely players with that experience and cheap price would be a great solution for us in the short term. (while praying that we get the investment).

Their contracts are with the club, not Rafa. The club could have sorted them out earlier.

Other than that I agree with you. New, creative criticisms have surfaced. This implies that he should be doing something to hold the owners to account in public for some of their misdeeds. But I'm not "expecting him to agitate" LFC, on the contrary. I'm expecting him not to. I'm not asking him to agitate either, I'm simply pointing out the fact that this myth that he is somehow the manefestation of the worse nightmare for the owners is palpably of the urban variety. He plainly isn't a thorn in their side as some try to make out, as I've said before he is actually for a number of reasons absolutely ideal for them as a manager at this stage.

If the owners were efectively forced by fan power to get rid of the manager (it won't happen) they'd be absolutely gutted. Not for Senor Benitez, they'd be gutted at having to shove another 16-20 million quid into the pot. The fans backing Benitez is a great result for them, pure and simple.

Pick up a full backs for 5m (don't have to be world beaters). Play SG and Masch in the middle and Tevez(or somebody else) and Torres up front. Spending 38m on a crock and a full back is nuts.
