Liverpool winger Ryan Babel is interesting Fiorentina.

Babel has been put up for sale by Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez as he seeks to raise his own transfer funds for the winter market.

Corriere dello Sport says Fiorentina are preparing a bid for Babel, who they hope to get on the cheap.

The Dutchman could arrive as a replacement for Adrian Mutu, who is unsettled in Florence.

Liverpool winger Ryan Babel isn't interested in a move to Italy.

The Daily Mail says Babel is likely to turn down overtures from Fiorentina and delay Liverpool's hopes of bringing players in.

Benitez knows that he'll have to work in the loan market to strengthen unless he can raise cash by selling or agree exchange deals.

He has been offered Olympiakos right back Vasilis Torosidis as a quick fix to Glen Johnson's absence but Rafa Benitez is likely to save funds for attack and wide midfield.

He is ready to part with Babel, Andriy Voronin, Andrea Dossena and Philipp Degen, but they are attracting minimal interest.

Babel, 23, represents their best hope of raising funds. But he is not keen on a move to Florence or Turkey, where there has been interest from Besiktas.

Rafa Benitez: Liverpool are not looking to sell Ryan Babel

Liverpool are not attempting to sell Ryan Babel according to Rafael Benitez, who is adamant that the Dutch winger will be given the chance to establish himself in the first team.

Ryan Babel has struggled for first-team football of late
Babel, who joined Liverpool from Ajax in an £11.5 million deal in the summer of 2007, has been repeatedly linked with an exit from Anfield in January having started only three Premier League games under Benitez this season.

With the World Cup finals looming large, Babel had even been quoted as saying he would like to rejoin Ajax on loan in order to further his claims for a place in Bert van Marwijk's 23-man squad that will make the trip to South Africa. However, the player has since declared his loyalty to Liverpool.

Babel was an unused substitute as Liverpool drew 1-1 with Reading in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday evening but Benitez has told the 23-year-old he will have the opportunity to impress and that he will not be sold during the transfer window.

"He will have a chance to play," Benitez said. "He has to work hard for us. He's our player and he will have his chances. At this moment we are not trying to sell him."

Responding to reports that two more Dutch players, Rafael van der Vaart and Ruud van Nistelrooy, could be targets for Liverpool, Benitez only stated that it will be "very, very difficult" to strengthen his squad in January.

Yes its a piece about Babel but what stuck out iin that bit for me was this bit Benitez only stated that it will be "very, very difficult" to strengthen his squad in January.

It is my belief that as the owners already have a new manager lined up, the tap of transfer funds available to the current manager has been switched off. 20 million for keane and 20 million for Aquilani has probably convinced them once and for all.

I don't know if Americans have a comparable saying for "good money after bad" but if they do, my guess is they'll be using it about now.

You may well be right right about that mate. If they're having doubts they are unlikely to give Rafa much more than a few million to spend. We need to spend though. A winger and a forward are desperately needed. there's got to be some loan signings out there, especially with it being a World Cup year.

I'd like to see that press conference again if anyone has the link? He seemed to give a telling grin after the "we will try but it will be very, very difficult" comment.

And its my belief Michael that them two need to feck off , because we have got no money, And if like you believe they already have a new manager lined up , it will  still be very difficult to stengthen his squad with no money, So the new managers tap will not be running any water

If they do decide to spend the cash to sack Rafa, my guess is that the theoretical new manager will have to sell to buy.
