Wasn't sure where to put this but may as well go here. Personally I am glad he will be staying. I think he has been terrific this season. I still hope we will bring in another RM but Yossi can play elsewhere, even on the left so it's fine.

Moscow after Rafa talks Israeli into staying at Liverpool

Yossi Benayoun

U-turn: Benayoun decided to stay at Liverpool

Liverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun agreed personal terms with Spartak Moscow in the January transfer window - before being talked into staying at Liverpool by Rafa Benitez.

The 28-year-old Israel international was on the brink of moving to Russia when he changed his mind after he was promised more first team football at Anfield.

'Benayoun was our prime target in the winter transfer window,' revealed Spartak general director Valery Karpin yesterday.

'We needed a creative attacking midfielder of his calibre in our squad. He was ready to come and play for Spartak but in the end Benitez did not let him leave Liverpool.'

After the deal fell through, Spartak manager Michael Laudrup turned to Brazil international Alex Meschini, who was bought from Porto Alegre-based club Internacional for £4.35million.

He's made 24 Premiership appearances this season, out of a possible 29. A lot as sub, but he can't play at a top club and expect to walk into the XI. Only Carragher, Kuyt and Reina (29) have played every game, besides them only Gerrard and Alonso have made more appearances.

He's a better than average squad player, but if he wants to be more than sub as much as starter then he needs to be more consistent.

I think he would be happy with around 25 to 30 starts next season. If we are going for all the cups and league we would definitely play more than 60 games

Great goal tonight, vital 3 points I think. He was poor against Greece after his injury, hopefully he will get his great form back.

cant believe theres anyone that doesnt rate him, i reckon hes perfect coming off the bench, can score and create goals and play anywhere across midfield, if we win the league or champions leauge this season hell become an anfield legend in my eyes

id play him ahead of kuyt, not a dig at dirk just rate yossi higher
but next season when hopefully weve got a world class winger on the right id have yossi as a super sub

All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing

I think he is a great player and have always rated him highly. Hopefully he will get to start against chelsea! (cant really see that happening though)

Welcome to the forum fauxy. Yeah he is a great player and hopefully is still with us next season. He has played quite a bit this season too so hopefully he won't moan as he has done in the past. As for Wednesday I think he will play some part but I would not expect him to start. Which is a shame because when we played them recently he was one of the best players on the pitch.

My first post also :)
Am i the only one that thinks yossi has been our best player this year? (except maybe SG and torres)
anyway , it seems like he is improving from game to game.

his performances in the 1st half of the season were shocking mate, and bar Dossena he was our poorest player. However from about new year on he has been born again and for me is behind only Torres and Gerrard in terms of his contribution to the new level the side has reached

I think it will be interesting when we have Gerrard, Torres, Kuyt, and Yossi all fit.  I guess we will play Yossi on the left? He is playing at an undroppable level right now, one of the best players in the team in 2009.  I wasn't really around for the Luis Garcia era, as he was mostly hurt the only year he was here when I followed the club, but how would you say the players compare now?

This is very true

For a team that have to win their last 5 games, playing the way he is he cant be dropped
