The Best player in the world 4 me

no player does more 4 a club in world football then he does 4 Liverpool yes Zidane, Henry, Ronaldo, Messi, Kaka, players like these will always get the votes because of the entertainment value & they r world class..............legends & potential legends infact

but i have yet 2 see a player who can do as much as Gerrard he has been ( & i swear this isnt biased) since i started watching football 20 yrs ago been the most complete player i have seen

& can u think of any other player EVA who has a better collection og goals them him

Simple Sensational i will be devastated when he retires

For me, only Kenny was better.

Rush,Keegan as well . Could also add Phil Neal , Jockey - all legends .

Sorry if I'm getting this wrong, but are you saying these players were better than Gerrard or can be regarded as legends?

Sorry those are players i regard higher than gerrard at this moment in time - well maybe not jocky . I know you cant really compare neal with gerrard but the other three to me just sit above him - off course gerrard still got a good 5-7 years left when that will prob change

It's all opinions and all that, but Phil Neal? Good full back and great penalty takes that he was, I couldn't compare him and Gerrard in the same chapter, never mind the same sentence. Obviously Rush and Dalglish were top players, though I suspect Rushie would be the first to tell you he wouldn't consider himself comaprable with Gerrard. Hansen was a marvellous centree half, probably the best footballing one I ever saw along with Beckenbauer. Once again though I don't think in terms of importance he could be compared to the current captain.

You didn't mention Sounness who certainly could. He was a wonderful player who's legacy got clouded somewhat by his ill feted spell as manager. We've had some great players though over the years, and I suspect most would have Dalglish as the best ever. He played in good teams though, and very often Gerrard hasn't. For me, and I know I'll be in a significant minority here, he's the best we've had. All opinions though like I say.

Yeah it is all opinions mate - just look at neals record - how many games did he play for us and in a row and was mainstay when i was growing up - cant disagree one bit about what your saying with hansen and yeah was thinking of souness and for me his record as a player will never be tainted cause of his stint as manager - and i put rush above him just purely for his goals - without them we would of been nowehere .

I honestly believe there will never be a player like him again.  His style of play and the goals he scores are truly one of a kind.

I have always thought Souness was slightly better than Gerrard, but I think Gerrard just edges Souness now. Souness was a better Captain, but I think only Dalglish (and possibly Barnes for a short while) was a better or more important player.

Midfield 4 ..... Keegan    Souness   Gerrard  Barnes  although I would have liked to include Kennedy, Mcmanaman and McDermott   :D

would put callaghan right instead of keegan mate - then would be bloody hard to pick two from the thre of kenny rush and keegan but think rush and kenny would just shade it for me . I think gerrard just edges souness on his attacking ability .

I wouldn't say he's been on fire at any point this season so far but I think he's missed Torres, he's by far our best player when Torres isnt in the side and there is a lot more pressure on him to perform and often get us out of trouble. I think we'll see the best of him when Torres returns.

Gerrards found that plateau in his game now, where he can actually cruise through games and still be the most important player on the pitch. Even on a bad day he's still one of the best players, and if we think back to those games where he got bossed by Viera and Keane you can see how far he's come because that would never happen now.

His goalscoring record whether he plays wide right, holder or pushed up is absolutely ridiculous. He scores more, makes more and saves more than any other midfielder in the league and is quite simply a fantastic player who is at or near his peak.

Callaghan was a great player, very consistant, but he didn't score enough goals once he dropped back, and was never in the same class as Keegan imo. I know I have cheated a bit by dropping Keegan back, but he did play there.

Sorry Nanny but imo Terry MAC, Souness and Kennedy were better than Cally, and Gerrard or Cally is a no brainer for me.

Its that verstatility that stands him out . i think he would be outstanding no matter where he played on the pitch and that puts him head and shoulders above anyone else in the prem.

spot on NR also saint, sorry but i totally dis-agree with the 80's choice mate [to spell his name wrong was also SACRLIDGE] -CRAIG JOHNSTON was an awsome player,i can honestly say i never saw him have a bad game for us, watching him in that suberb team of the 80's week in week out, his enthusiasm, commitment, attitude was second to none.

IMHO gerrard would have found a place in the side of any era but for who ? very good question, as you say mate i would of hated dropping anyone of great teams gone by it's far easier to make that decision in our side right now.

sorry for not commiting to the debate mate but it's that hard for me to name any player from the years you mention.

totally agree tho gerrard is a red through & through, who will be remembered as a LFC legand.  :buttrock
