If this is the way things are going to be handled from now on (ie sell players to be able to raise funds to buy) becuase of debts, then I don't know how we'll grow as a club and be in contention for the EPL.  Who will be sold next season, Torres, Gerrard?  :(

So much for strength in depth. Looks like once we are out of the leage race after October, Rafa will just have to focus on Europe.....again becasue there is no way we can challange for the league aswell.

:censored: :censored: I tell you.

I still think that aside from new players, LFC need a new mentality.

Debt, loans, interest, banks, etc....

It all means nothing if we are 1-0 up against Wigan at home and we allow Titus Frickin Bramble to equalise.

These players need a killer instinct to finish off teams.

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has been forced to add players to his Anfield fire sale in a frantic bid to raise the £35 million he needs for new signings. As newly published accounts for last season lay bare how tight the club's financial situation is, Benitez will now listen to offers for the likes of Alvaro Arbeloa, Jermain Pennant and steve finnan, as well as those he had already decided to let go, including Peter Crouch, John Arne Riise and Scott Carson.
Benitez has been told that if he wants to sign Aston Villa's Gareth Barry, Udinese's £8m-rated left-back Andrea Dossena and a top-class right-sided midfielder he must fund new signings this summer out of player sales. The only guaranteed arrival is defender Philipp Degen from Borussia Dortmund and now Benitez's auction has eight players for sale.
Liverpool made a pre-tax loss last year of almost £22 m and now, after co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett effectively loaded the club with a £350 m loan, Liverpool will have to find £30m-plus in annual interest charges alone, leaving Benitez having to fund his transfer war chest through sales.

Sad sad sad... there's no improvement or progress in our buying power from when we had Moores and Parry in charge.

Chelsea are undergoing a crazy period of change, Arsenal refuses to pay their players more, losing good players and morale, and we are still in stuck in square 1 with no buying power to buy non-mediocre players. Hell, look at who Spurs are attempting to buy!

So guess who's gonna win the league again. Liverpool has got no more time to be playing games. 2 more titles and the scum will overtake us.

What can we as the fans do to change this?? I'm sure we can do a nice exercise of people's power because it is imperative that we do so or kiss our record number of titles goodbye. I've already asked all my mates and meself to boycott the new jersey, no matter how nice it looks  :(

Is it really a big loss to have to sell Arbeloa, Pennant and Finnan?

If we can get a good price for them, I'd be OK with that.

Its not so much the loss of those players but the thought of whether we can get anyone better for the price of them? Plus the having to sell to buy concept... which I'm ok with except, for goodness sake, throw in at least £20m in addition to the £35m raised from player sales lest we never improve.

A good scenario is us keeping them 3 as squad players, maybe sell 1-2 to lessen the financial burden, while bringing 2 more players of world reknown impact. i.e. your arshavins, modrics, messis, quaresmas, lahms etc.

The fact that the club record for money spent on a defender was like 6mil just shows that we cant compete with all areas on the pitch. Sure we have a top class striker. But you need a team of top class players, or at least for he majority of the team to be top class. Right now we have maybe 3 or 4 top class players max trying to carry the rest who are not good enough.

I think that for the future, if we continued down these lines, then we'll never improve. Because of the debts, what if we had to sell Torres or Gerrard etc (the players that make the club tick on the pitch) to raise enough funds to bring in a few players and help pay towards those debts. And if we have to keep selling our sqaud players, there' no backup if first teamers get injured. These days, good quality doesn't come cheap.

I agree. We have bought a lot of journeymen over the last few years and its natural to offload them to raise transfer funds and freee up wages at the end of the month. I have no complaint at all, get on with it as it might point to a couple of big purchases waiting in the wings.

Does anyone think something is happenin behind the scenes though its to Quiet for my liking . The fat one loves to open his mouth but nothing been heard from him since the Arsenal game. I just think somethings going on.

If you wiegh up the problems Raffa had at Valencia with the board and no money he was off , ive been thinking about it (yeh i do think now an again) Raffa is not coming out sayin i need money to buy so an so an i want to move quick. Hes also to happy which seems strange with the situation of him having to sell to buy. Remember the last time he needed funds he let every Tom ,Dick and Harry know. Thats why i think something is going on, Otherwise i really think with the situation as it is he would walk.

I Cant wait till the end of the month when the big man arrives in England,

Thats when im hoping for the Big Shiekh Up

We've got a promising reserve and youth team too.
