Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I always thought that it was more to do with the fact that Moores would get more £ for his shares compared with what DIC were willing to offer. If thats true then its all to do with personal greed.

This canadian journalist seems it quite well.............. :(

Hicks, Gillett embarrassing to Liverpool
Monday, April 14, 2008

So, let's see if I've got this straight: Tom likes Rafa, but doesn't like George and hates Rick. George is no huge fan of Rafa, but dislikes Tom and doesn't mind Rick. Rick has washed his hands of George and Tom, while Rafa has issues with Rick, but is sensibly not saying much about his feelings.

Welcome to As the Stomach Turns, the soap opera that is the Liverpool front office. Even as the team had reason to celebrate a stellar victory over Arsenal that allowed it to advance to the Champions League semifinal, front-office turmoil overshadowed the win.

Co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr., the owner of the Canadiens, have fallen out big-time and the only answer would seem to be one of them selling his stake.

I thought all this off field garbage would be resolved in the summer

Its bad enough but the fact that these money grubbing egohead numptys seem to try the grab the headlines every time we had big win really turns the chickens off laying

There is nothing wrong with the owners seeing if there is a better manager out there (not that klinnsman is) in the same way Rafa spoke to LFC when GH was manager.

however, it is clear that the two men cannot work together and they must either both sell or one buy out the other.

i don't want to see DIC owning PART of LFC and one of the Americans owning the other, the two owners thing is a disaster in the same way the two manager thing with Evans and GH was.

I was willing to give them a chance as the Glazers did well at Manu but LFC should not be a soap opera.

It would appear to me that a few things need to happen to settle Anfield down -

1 - Hicks and Gillette agree to sell
2 - DIC come back in and buy the club
3 - Parry gets the bullet and is replaced by someone like David Dein
4 - Rafa gets a new deal to keep him at club
5 - We have a bit of clear out in the summer with Kewell, Crouch, Kuyt, Pennant + couple of others out
6 - We replace the above with 2-3 top class players (the likes of Rafinha, Lahm, Aguero)

In an ideal world all of the above would happen...and quickly. :)

Rafael Benitez has held trans-Atlantic discussions with Liverpool co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett over his future at Anfield.

The Liverpool boss left Anfield after his side's 3-1 win over Blackburn to return to his Cheshire home for an exchange of e-mails with the American duo, after it was revealed that chief executive Rick Parry was party to meetings they had late last year with Jurgen Klinsmann.

The former Germany manager was being lined up as a possible replacement for Benitez at the time that his relationship with the owners was at an all-time low.

But Benitez claims he only discovered yesterday from media reports that Parry had attended meetings in the US with Klinsmann and his advisors `on instruction' from the club's owners.

The Spaniard was clearly furious after the Blackburn victory having discovered who was involved in what he believed were meetings behind his back.

But he now believes those meetings took place in the full knowledge of Parry, who, he claims, did not inform him of his involvement.

Benitez insisted that he would be discussing the situation with his agent, aware that Valencia, Inter Milan, Barcelona and Real Madrid are interested in his services.

The answers he receives from the owners will dictate his position at the end of the season, but he will not walk away ahead of the Champions League semi-finals with Chelsea and is intent on winning the trophy for the second time for the Reds.

But the manager's whole future at the club is now in doubt as further revelations over exactly who was party to the meetings with the German and his advisors.

Benitez, who was delighted with a performance that saw Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres and Andriy Voronin score the goals to beat Rovers, said: 'I am surprised at things I have read, I need some clarification about a meeting that took place involving a lot of people that I did now know about.

'I need to ask questions and I want some answers. I want to clarify things. I am really calm, but I want answers.'

Roque Santa Cruz replied in injury-time for Rovers, but Liverpool further cemented their grip on fourth spot to take a five-point lead over Everton and a positive goal difference of 12 that, in effect, is worth another point with just four games left.

But Benitez had his pleasure at the result soured by yet more boardroom problems.

He added: 'What concerned me was the people who were in the meeting, that was a surprise.

I was always under the impression that all D.I.C have to do is table a bid for the club, Hicks then has X ammount of time to match the D.I.C offer or be forced to sell, is that right ?

He has already been refused backing by one of Americas biggest investment giants after going cap in hand, so he obviously does not have the funds to match any D.I.C offer, why don't D.I.C just make an offer and force the greedy :censored: to have to sell up.

Can anyone clear this up ?

I just hope this is not Rafa aiding and assisting Hicks in his efforts to remove Parry. The last thing we need is for Rafa to ally himself to Hicks, as that would really muddy the waters and cause even more problems. At the moment for me its black and white - Hicks and Gillett need to go then we can sort out Moores and Parry. If Rafa becomes involved the whole senario changes.

Hicks has denied that there is any 3 month period of grace, and says that at NO TIME can Gillett sell his half without his approval.

I presume he must have a point or Gillett and DIC would have just sat back waited for the 3 months to be up and then done a deal.

I heard yesterday that Hicks is now confident of raising the finance to buy out Gillett, he is then going to float 49% on the stockmarket or included as part of his sports holdings, in order to raise the capital required to meet the financial demands of the new stadium.

is that the real issue that rafa wanted to clarify or are the media mixing it up? I thought that the reason rafa is :censored: is because Klinnsmann ppl warned the club that they are getting information of Rafa's transfer targets which rafa only disclosed it to Hicks... the fat :censored:...
