Right apologies, Balague actually says that the senior player that is all but signed for next season is a player that was mentioned earlier in last night's podcast, not in the first podcast of the season. So, I've compiled a list of every player that was mentioned in last night's podcast (don't shoot the messenger):

rooney, reo-coker, ashley young, agbonlahor, carew, zarate, harewood, maloney, knight, curtis davies, petrov, walcott, adebayor, van persie, diaby, lassana diarra, fabregas, zarate, david suazo, bullard, stephen pearson, emanuel villa, kenny miller, benjani, fran merida, darren leacock, mcsheffrey, sun jihai, viduka, barton, geremi, owen, drogba, flamini.

this isn't an april fools don't worry. ok so i know there are alot of names there, and obviously many can be discounted (fabregas, adebayor, rooney, drogba etc.), but the person we have all but signed is in that list according to Balague. So, it looks like the rumours of that player being rafinha, palacio, bentley etc aren't true. my personal feeling is that the player is one of a.young, agbonlahor, walcott or zarate. anyway look at the list and make your own minds up. if you don't believe me then have a listen to it yourselves, he does say it (around 31mins onwards).

Ashley Young or Walcott. In either case I'd be pretty happy to be honest. I'd be made up if was Van Persie as well. My suspicion is though that despite the reporters suggestion that it's one of these blokes, it won't be. It'll be someone from another league who's name has gradually filtered through to everyone's consciousness as that's the way it's happened in the past with Agger, Kuyt, Babel etc etc.

Given all that, it'll be that (and feck knows how you spell it before anybody starts  :D ) Rafiana bloke. I'd never heard of him 'till a couple of weeks ago, have never seen him play and know feck all about him so therefore have no opinion.

rafinha came on the the last 15 mins or so in brazil's friendly last week. he seems keen enough to head towards the box but also seems a bit lightweight and tends to fall over easily. he's got curlyish hair too if that helps...

Keegan, Thommo, Souness, Johnston, Terry Mac .... there´s a history of successful perms at Liverpool.

We never had any successful skinheads (Gary Mac excluded as his was natural).
Pepe Reina oils his head before the start to to dazzle oncoming forwards so thats a tactical haircut.

Torres is the first hippy we´ve had for ages..... guess Morrientes was the last one and he played `below par´. Before that?

Only comment I´d make ref the transfers, sell Alonso to replace him? Yep, I see the logic. ???

i believe he's entirely natural, leon. think more of loose foppish curls than a bubble type footballer's style and you'll be getting close.

Jesus it took me ages to write all that and people manage to turn it into a discussion about perms. This is no ordinary journalist though, it's Balague (who knows Rafa better than anybody else- well apart from his wife hopefully). If Balague says the name is on that list, then the name is on that list. My gut instinct is one of Agbonlahor or Walcott. Oh how I hope it isn't Bullard. If ya don't believe me then you should listen to the podcast yourselves; I gave the link on the previous page.

this has just been posted by Guillem on his podcast comments page:

(I mentioned in the podcast that we had discussed the senior player already signed by Liverpool but the part were we did talk about him got cut off in the final ediing. it is not one you mention in your posts, but we will soon knw who he is.The name might cause surprise but remember whe you hear it that he can also play right)

ok so i now say i have no chuffing idea whatsoever who that player is anymore. so i'm guessing from that comment that he's a striker who can play right side of midfield, although right side of midfield is not the position he often plays in. or it could be a left back who plays right back, or a right back who plays right wing, or a left winger who can play right wing. i might aswell just give up on this- the horse is well and truly flogged.
