LIVERPOOL vs READING: 15/03/08 - 3pm - Build up and Match Discussion

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Oddly enough, Manhattan had a vision today that Masch would indeed score against Manure.

This is by no means a prediction of victory.

We may lose 10-1 with Masch getting a consolation goal.

6-0. Crouch with two. Benayoun with two and goals from Riise and Voronin. :D
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

Reina
Arbeloa  Carra  Sami  Riise
           Alonso Lucas
    Pennant    Gerrard    Benayoun

                   Torres

Think thats the team he will go with, but you obviously dont know with Rafa. If we play to our ability we should win comfortably. 4-0.

We need to avoid defeat in all our remaining games this season if we are to claim fourth and we need to get points at OT and at the Emirates. So against reading today , we have avoided defeat in the last 6 or 7 matches with rafa cutting down on rotation keeping the core of the team the same . We should beat reading tonight seeing as the form we are in , rafa should stick with the 4-5-1 formation and i here's the team i'd like to see .

                                       Reina

Arbeloa                             Carra               Skrtel           Riise

                                       Masch             Alonso

Kuyt                                                                         Babel

                                         Gerrard

                                         Torres

With this team , we should beat them comfortably , 3-0 or 4-0 perhaps and then rafa can take off torres can give crouch a run , Pennant and Lucas . Arbeloa as right back as finnan is injured , if not i'd have finnan there and Alonso welcomed back into he team as he and masch have done a good job in the past few games or so . Hopefully reading do not park the bus

I might be going against the traffic here....but i think it is better not to play Torres against reading (one of the most dirtiest team in this league).

This has been such a stop-start season....(Yanks vs Rafa, Agger injury, Torres Injury, ref co@k-up against chelsea...etc), the last thing we want is a injury to Torres. I remember in the league cup Torres was kicked all over the pitch and you can be sure with reading fighting for their premierleague status will target torres again.

So i think we should maybe drop torres and bring in crouch in the 4-3-2-1 formation...... Crouch could do an adequate job in that position.... And with Macherano and Alonso giving nothing away in midfield...we should still be too strong for reading.

Let's not fu.ck around with the team today, remember we're winning games BECAUSE Gerrard and Torres are playing every game and we have a fairly settled team and formation.  We need to keep the momentum going and not rotate players out of form like has happened before.

Minimal changes for me today - I'd start with:

                                 Reina

Arbeloa            Carragher    Skrtel          Aurelio

                     Mascherano  Alonso

Kuyt                        Gerrard                 Babel

                              Torres

We should rest Hyypia as it's asking a bit much for him to play every game at his age.  Apart from that I would keep it the same.  I think I'm right in saying our next game after this is a week away, so plenty of time for the players to recover.  It's all about momentum at this stage, let's not lose it.

If things go to plan then Gerrard and Torres can come off after an hour when we're 3-0 up.

Spot on, John.  Don't tinker with a winning formula for this one.  If they kick Torres I'm confident he can cope.  Perhaps they'd be kind enough to do it in their area and hand us an early penalty? ???

At the risk of sounding like a broken record here, I hope Babel is prepared to battle today should he be selected.  I'm looking to see more heart from this lad, both with and without the ball.  Come on, son, show us you've got the bottle to wear the shirt. :nod

If Raffa dropped Torres today there would be murder on here, Torres can handle however rough Reading want to be im more worried about Babel he need to get some bottle i just hope he doesnt go missing

Same team but Xabi in for Lucas

I understand the concerns about Babel, but I still think I've seen enough from him to believe he will come good for us.

He is guilty of drifting in and out of games, but we knew that anyway because when we signed him several Dutch fans came on this site and told us that it was his weakness.  Hopefully by playing him week in and week out, it will improve his confidence and consistency and he'll fulfill the potential that it's blindingly obvious he has.

He is a player that has the ability to excite fans with his explosive pace and power.  I'm also not sure I'd question his bottle - he was certainly getting stuck into Maicon against Inter the other night.  For me his drifting in and out of games is more to do with lack of concentration and game intelligence rather than lack of bottle.

Last "easy " game before a run of hard ones. We should win this one comfortably 3-0. Maybe with another Torres hatrick? However I am going for Gerrard and Torres sharing the goals yet again.

I said I thought Babel lacked bottle , that may have been a bit strong but the lad certainly seems quick to "give up" in situations where other more determined players wouldn't. He offers little in defensive terms , ok he's primarily a forward/winger so I won't castigate him to much for that but I like to see the fella  up his application.

Let's give Reading a battering today to make up for the embarrassing result at the Madejski!  Comfortable 3-0 to the pool :buttrock

New dad Xabi Alonso is back for this afternoon's clash with Reading as Rafa Benitez makes two changes from the side that triumphed in the San Siro.
Alvaro Arbeloa replaces Sami Hyypia in the only other change.

The Liverpool team in full is: Reina, Aurelio, Arbeloa, Skrtel, Carragher, Mascherano, Alonso, Gerrard, Babel, Kuyt, Torres: Subs: Itandje, Riise, Hyypia, Crouch, Benayoun.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.
