Still many social problems though. Islam-related, for the most part.

Its not Islam related at all.  Dubai does not rule by Islam. They choose to use Islam when they want but ignore it when it suits there interests.  i.e. Money.  They must collect so much money in interest even though Interest is forbidden in Islam and is not allowed at all.  They own horses and stage races in an industry that is built on gambling.  Again forbidden in Islam.

Here is another story of the so called great Dubai leadership again not being fair in its actions towards migrant workers:

DUBAI: A Dubai court has sentenced 45 Indian construction workers to six months in jail followed by deportation over a violent protest to demand wage increases, a local newspaper reported on Monday.

The Court of Misdemeanour found the workers guilty of endangering public security, damaging property and inciting other workers to strike over pay rises, the newspaper quoted a senior court official as saying.

"There are legal channels and legitimate methods for workers who deem they are underpaid to claim their rights instead of rioting violently and unlawfully," Judge Jasem Baqer, Head of Dubai Criminal Court, told the daily.

"This is a first-of-a-kind ruling," the judge said. The newspaper did did not say when the ruling was handed down. But it quoted court records as saying that some of the accused confessed to orchestrating violence and inciting others to riot by distributing and posting pamphlets at workers' accommodation.

The booming city-state of Dubai is going through construction frenzy and has seen several labour strikes over the past months, with thousands of Asian workers demanding higher wages and better living conditions.

Expatriates from the Indian subcontinent and southeast Asia comprise around 75 per cent of the workforce in the United Arab Emirates, where foreigners make up nearly 85 percent of the 5.6-million population, according to a recent unofficial study.

http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/UAE_jai....842.cms

Its laughable as they don't realise that without all these migrant workers Dubai would not be built as the arabs there wouldnt be doing it.  I dont support violent protest but those workers dont have any other means express there displeasure.

It may be harsh to call the regime tyrants but what cannot be denied is they are dictators.

AP NewsBreak: Dubai group will accept buying just 49 percent of Liverpool
2008-03-07 12:08:57 -

MANCHESTER, England (AP) - The Dubai consortium battling for ownership of Liverpool is now willing to purchase less than 50 percent of the club, the Associated Press has learned.

Dubai International Capital will cede to the demands of Tom Hicks that his co-owner George Gillett Jr. can only sell 49 percent of the club _
with Hicks wanting the final percent for a majority stake _ an executive close to DIC told the AP. He spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.

DIC was initially only interested in gaining a controlling interest, but is willing to settle for an initial partnership with Hicks at Anfield, with the long-term aim of taking full control, the executive said. Negotiations are now under way with Gillett to seal the deal.
Gillett had been offered up to 80 million pounds (US$158 million; €104 million), including a share of future profits, to sell his full stake end his turbulent year in English soccer.

Hicks and Gillett bought Liverpool for 218.9 million pounds (then US$431 million) in March 2007, and hold 50 percent each of the club.
The executive working on the DIC bid insisted that Hicks is preparing to hold face-to-face talks with DIC next week _ despite rebuffing the consortium's initial 500 million pound (US$993 million; €650 million) bid for the whole club. That would include paying off the 350 million-pound refinancing package the Americans negotiated in January for the loan used to purchase the Reds. Initial estimates had put the bid at 400 million pounds (US$794 million; €522 million).

The executive claimed Hicks, who also owns the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Stars, spoke by telephone Wednesday with Amanda Staveley, DIC's lead negotiator, to arrange a meeting in England early next week to bring the situation to a conclusion.
The Hicks camp denied that claim Thursday.

The uncertainty surrounding the club's future ownership has overshadowed Wednesday's 4-0 victory over West Ham, which restored Liverpool to fourth in the Premier League standings.
Liverpool fans staged a protest during the game, urging the American owners to sell to DIC.
Fans are upset that the duo have saddled the club with debt, failed to start building a new stadium and sought to replace popular manager Rafa Benitez.

These two yanks makes everyone uneasy. They just know how to think themselves and only know how to make $$$. Empty promises ....

I think throw them a lot of bad eggs in our next home match. Just to let them know that they are NOT welcome in Liverpool.

ermm in what way is this bad news, their aim is to get full control and even if it takes some time they will achieve it. Can people please leave the politics out of this, why are poeple worried about Dubaiæs work conditions all of a sudden, I could not give a sh1t in all honesty as long as they plough a proportion of their dirty money into the club  :wwww

Sorry people but just had to post this i read it on RAWK and i copied and pasted it yah im cheatin but i think its class-----

THE OLD PRIEST LAY DYING IN THE HOSPITAL. FOR YEARS, HE HAD
FAITHFULLY SERVED THE PEOPLE OF THE NATION'S CAPITAL IN DALLAS, TX. HE MOTIONED FOR HIS NURSE TO COME NEAR.
"YES, FATHER?" SAID THE NURSE.
I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO SEE TOM HICKS  AND GEORGE GILLETT BEFORE I DIE," WHISPERED THE PRIEST.
"I'LL SEE WHAT I CAN DO, FATHER" REPLIED THE NURSE.

THE NURSE SENT THE REQUEST AND WAITED FOR A RESPONSE. SOON THE WORD ARRIVED; THE GENTLEMEN WOULD BE DELIGHTED TO VISIT THE PRIEST.

AS THEY WENT TO THE HOSPITAL, HICKS COMMENTED TO GILLETT, "I DON'T KNOW WHY THE OLD PRIEST WANTS TO SEE US, BUT IT CERTAINLY WILL HELP OUR IMAGES AND MIGHT EVEN GET THE LIVERPOOL FANS ON OUR SIDE.  GILLETT AGREED--IT WAS A VERY GOOD THING FOR THEIR IMAGE ONCE THEY PUT OUT A PRESS RELEASE ABOUT IT ON SKY SPORTS.

WHEN THEY ARRIVED AT THE PRIEST'S ROOM, THE OLD PRIEST TOOK HICKS’ HAND IN HIS RIGHT HAND AND GILLETT'S HAND IN HIS LEFT. THERE WAS SILENCE AND A LOOK OF SERENITY ON THE OLD PRIEST'S FACE.
FINALLY TOM HICKS SPOKE. "FATHER, OF ALL THE PEOPLE YOU COULD HAVE CHOSEN, WHY DID YOU CHOOSE US TO BE WITH YOU AS YOU NEAR THE END?"

THE OLD PRIEST SLOWLY REPLIED, "I HAVE ALWAYS TRIED TO PATTERN MY LIFE
AFTER OUR LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST."

"AMEN" SAID HICKS.

"AMEN" SAID GEORGE.

THE OLD PRIEST CONTINUED......"HE DIED BETWEEN TWO LYING THIEVES. I

WOULD LIKE TO DO THE SAME."

Tonights Echo

Tom Hicks may win battle over Liverpool FC
Mar 7 2008 by Tony Barrett, Liverpool Echo

TOM HICKS is edging closer to taking majority control of Liverpool FC.

DIC has indicated it may now be willing to take a 49% stake by buying out all but 1% of George Gillett's shares.

The remaining 1% could then be bought by Hicks, leaving him as the majority shareholder - a scenario one Anfield figure has described as "a potential nightmare".

It is believed DIC has not dropped its desire to buy the club outright in the future but for the time being may be ready to enter into a deal which would see Hicks investment increase.

The situation is further complicated by the fact Liverpool's current co-owners are speaking to DIC separately and even though Hicks is now believed to have indicated he will not block DIC in their bid to take a minority stake, the Dubai consortium would still have to convince Gillett to accept its offer.

Gillett is still to agree to sell though and having fallen out so dramatically with Hicks it remains questionable whether he would be willing to do any deal with him.

The Hicks camp remain insistent that although they are aware DIC has indicated a change of stance, they have not yet received any formal notification from them regarding this.

But the two parties could meet in Dubai next week.

The current situation will further dismay and confuse Liverpool fans who are seeing a complex deal for the future of their club being played out via the media on an almost hourly basis.

Paul Lunt, a litigation partner at Liverpool law firm Brabners who specialises in shareholders rights, said: "The impasse highlights the unattractiveness of being a minority shareholder.

"Tom Hicks and DIC have been in talks about the future ownership and control of Liverpool , and it seems both are willing to consider the possibility of some future role for the other.

"The sticking point seems to be the fact that neither party is willing to accept a role as a minority shareholder; each of them will only consider a controlling stake.

"This is not surprising. The strict rights of a shareholder holding less than 50% of the shares in a private limited company are generally fairly limited.

what's better for the club...DIC control 25% and Hicks 75% or we keep the two yanks?

That's the way I see this going in all fairness. I see DIC's possible percentage in the club only going further down. It's already dropped from 50% to 49% (I know it's only 1 percent) but I can see their percentage going further down before a deal is accepted.
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.
