Hello,

Well it seems as if Tom Hicks has finally now admitted George Gillett is in advanced negotiations with Dubai International Capital.

Word was on Tuesday - there would be a big announcement made regarding Gillett’s shares within 10 days.

Well yesterday Tom Hicks confirmed that negotiations have been on-going with his 'partner' & DIC officials.

The relationship between the American pair has completely & utterly broken down.

Some press are saying that Dubai International Capital are ready to bid for Gillett's shares, but my understanding is, talks have been ongoing for months & the OFFER WAS MADE weeks ago.

I also understand that Gillett has agreed to sell his shares to DIC, which in turn prompted this response from Hicks.

Tom Hicks:

"Not only am I not going to sell, my partner cannot sell without my approval. “

"So I kind of have the ability to determine the outcome of what is going to happen, and I am right in the middle of that."

"For a lot of reasons I can't discuss, I haven't been able to fix it yet. But I am preparing to be in a position to fix it."

Now I understand that last sentence to mean he is desperately trying to find a backer who is willing to stump up the required money that would enable Hicks to buy Gillett's shares.

But this will not happen.

Like I said sometime ago - Gillett has given his word to Dubai International Capital, headed by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who is now personally involved with negotiations, they can buy his shares & everything is in place.

Gillett will not sell his half to Hicks.

Gillett is said to be furious that Hicks has ruined his what seems like a genuine wish to do good things at Liverpool.

Before Foster Gillett left Liverpool, he let it be known to some within Anfield that none of what was happening was down to his father or his family.

Further more George Gillett has spoken with Rafael Benitez, Mr. Moore's & Rick Parry several times in the last 2 months to let them know exactly where things stand with all that going on at the moment.

From what I hear - George Gillett is quite a decent guy who has been railroaded into making decisions he didn’t want to take, but such is his intense disliking of Tom Hicks & the fact things are now beyond repair, Gillett see’s getting out of Liverpool whilst making a tidy profit a good plan & who could blame the guy?

Breaking news alert: Liverpool owner wants 100%
Posted by Brant Parsons on Feb 29, 2008 8:49:15 PM

Just got a story from the Associated Press stating that Tom Hicks is exploring how to acquire all or part of George Gillett's 50 percent stake in the club.

Yes, the most reviled man in the red part of Merseyside, is looking to raise private equity to take over full control of the Reds.

Here's the full AP version for those that want all the gory details:

Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks is exploring how to take control of the club by acquiring all or part of George Gillett Jr.'s 50 percent stake.
The preferred option is to raise private equity, possibly for his entire sports group, a person familiar with Hicks' plans told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.
The duo bought the Premier League club for $431 million as 50-50 partners last March, but Gillett is seeking to sell his share and Hicks is trying to raise money to become the majority owner.
Hicks alluded this week that Gillett was exploring a sale of his stake to Dubai Capital International. And in an interview with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Hicks publicly affirmed his power to block Gillett from selling his shares.
Gillett's ongoing discussions to sell to DIC again were confirmed Friday to The Associated Press by a financial industry executive familiar with negotiations. The executive spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of talks.
If Hicks could secure sufficient funding to become the controlling owner at Anfield, it would send a defiant message to fans that he will be a long-term fixture at English soccer's most-decorated club.
DIC was in talks to acquire the club a year ago but withdrew. DIC — the private-equity investment arm of the Dubai government — is only interested in acquiring a controlling stake, the executive told the AP.
Roy Winnick, a New York-based spokesman for Hicks, wouldn't comment on his client's options.
Hicks could attempt to buy out Gillett's shares and personal guarantees, which were central to last month's refinancing of the loan used to purchase Liverpool. The price of a buyout by Hicks of Gillett would be about $300 million, the financial industry executive said.
A person familiar with Hicks' plans ruled out a public offering of shares in Hicks Sports Group, which includes baseball's Texas Rangers and the NHL's Dallas Stars as well as the 50 percent stake in Liverpool through Kop Holdings. The person cited volatility in the global financial markets.
The window of opportunity for that option may reopen before the end of the year, but isn't currently viable, the person added.
But the executive, who has been in contact with JP Morgan Chase & Co., said Hicks has been looking into the feasibility of a private placement to raise money.
Last month, Hicks revealed he had spoken to DIC about a “10 to 15 percent participation” but that his valuation was viewed by DIC too high.
Since then, Hicks has told the AP that he wants to take a “more active role” at Anfield, while affirming his commitment to the club “regardless” of Gillett's actions earlier this week.
But DIC and Gillett are in constant negotiations, according to financial executive said. The Dubai consortium is only interested in gaining control of the Reds, the executive said. That would require Hicks to sell shares, something that isn't being considered.
“He's not in the market to sell, but he's in the market to buy more shares,” another person close to Hicks said, also speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the deal.
Hicks said this week he is preparing to “fix the situation.”
“Not only am I not going to sell, my partner cannot sell without my approval,” Hicks said in Thursday's Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “So, I kind of have the ability to determine the outcome of what is going to happen, and I am right in the middle of that.”
Since attending a December match against Manchester United, Gillett and son Foster Gillett have been less visible at Liverpool and Hicks has become the ownership spokesman.
Many fans have turned against the American owners, who publicly feuded last autumn with popular manager Rafa Benitez over player transfers. Hicks has acknowledged he sought out former Germany coach Juergen Klinsmann in November as a possible replacement for Benitez, which enflamed tensions.
But last week Benitez spoke warmly about encouraging and motivational e-mails sent by Hicks, while stating that Gillett hadn't entered into similar electronic correspondence.
A group of Liverpool fans is also hoping to buy the club from the Americans. Share Liverpool FC is trying to raise $990 million by asking fans to pledge $9,900 each

I'm reading everything Hicks is saying as him playing hardball. He doesn't want to appear to be ready to sell at any cost, and it's just aggressive negotiating on his part.

I'm certainly not worried that Hicks is going to be in charge of the club in the long-term. Once the price is right, the Hicks "era" is over.

I really hope Gillett goes public at some point to give his side of the story, as I've suspected for a while that he's relatively blameless in all of this.

Jimmy Melia on sky sports' soccer saturday has said "Gillett will sell, but Hicks (close personal friend of Melia) will be here for a long time" Nicky Allt (chairman of SOS) has said that their protests and airing their problems are right because they're letting the yanks know how they feel. Allt thinks that the yanks have taken the Liverpool Way away, and that's why the SOS are coming out publically. Allt also said that when Moores sold to the yanks he sold the soul of this club because the soul is here in the city of Liverpool and that's not being horrible to our fans around the country but the soul is here in Liverpool. It was here the club was built and it's here where the club will stay.

Concerning Benitez and Gerrard's recent comments. Charlie Nicholas thinks Gerrard was spot on, and he thinks that because he can't recall Benitez ever praising Gerrard. Matt Le Tissier thinks Gerrard will have to move if he wants to win the league but that's just typical of that :censored: who loves putting us down. Paul Walsh thinks Gerrard was right and finally Phil Thompson thinks it shows a passionate captain showing love for his club.
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

AP have updated their earlier copy. Interesting use of wording in the headline, I thought...

Co-owner Tom Hicks looks for outside backing to take control of Liverpool
By ROB HARRIS, Associated Press Writer
LIVERPOOL, England (AP) — Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks is exploring how to take control of the club by acquiring all or part of George Gillett Jr.'s 50 percent stake.
The preferred option is to raise private equity, possibly for his entire sports group, people familiar with Hicks' plans told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.
The duo bought the English Premier League club for 218.9 million pounds (then US$431 million; €333 million) as 50-50 partners last March, but Gillett is seeking to sell his share and Hicks is trying to raise money to become the majority owner.
Hicks alluded this week that Gillett was exploring a sale of his stake to Dubai Capital International. And in an interview with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Hicks publicly affirmed his power to block Gillett from selling his shares.
Gillett's ongoing discussions to sell to DIC again were confirmed on Friday to The Associated Press by a financial industry executive familiar with negotiations. The executive spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the talks.
The price of a buyout by Hicks of Gillett would be about 150 million pounds (US$300 million, €198 million), the financial industry executive said.
A person familiar with Hicks' plans ruled out a public offering of shares in Hicks Sports Group, which includes Major League Baseball's Texas Rangers and the NHL's Dallas Stars as well as the 50 percent stake in Liverpool through Kop Holdings.
Last month, Hicks revealed he had spoken to DIC about a "10 to 15 percent participation" but that his valuation was viewed by DIC too high.

But last week Benitez spoke warmly about encouraging and motivational e-mails sent by Hicks, while stating that Gillett hadn't entered into similar electronic correspondence.
A group of Liverpool fans is also hoping to buy the club from the Americans. Share Liverpool FC is trying to raise 500 million pounds (US$990 million, €650 million) by asking fans to pledge 5,000 pounds (US$9,900, €6,500) each.
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has blamed the uncertainty off the pitch for the team's failure to challenge for the Premier League title.
The 18-time English champion had prioritized claiming its first title in 18 years, but trails leader Arsenal by 17 points and is now battling fourth-place Everton for the final Champions League berth.
The Reds are in a good position to advance to the Champions League quarterfinals, after a 2-0 first-leg victory over Inter Milan.

If he does take full control will he be able to financially compete withthe likes of Utd and the rest? I doubt it. He was so bloody tight earlierin the season. This is a mess.
