Could have just been a PR spin job but you've got to give him the "Big Balls" award. Pity he didn't get the chance to talk to the interested people there.

Dont know if its stupididty on his part or just naive, but he was given the welcome I would expect - NONE.

There were a few of us who wouldn't have minded getting some answers "on the record" but, as I say, he didn't get the chance. That's from someone who's never been a supporter of The Yanks.

To go into the pub after the game where tensions about the yanks takeover are running high was stupid. If he wants to talk to supporters he would have been better off doing a phone in on LFCTV or something

He later spoke to someone from SOS , I presume we will find out what was said at this meeting at some point.

The ones to be asked to verify the sources must be the journos, and they write a lot of things, problems in the dressroom, players leaving, and a lot of shít.

That's why the statement of Hicks made so much harm, after doing an unbelievable move now it makes more believable a lot of things written. People consider accepted gospel what before was a rumour precisely in the moment an official source confirms so, until then it's normal it's considered one of the many things that are written about Liverpool, which are a lot.

I don't know who dismissed the copy and pasted sources out of hand as soon as they were posted, but it's only natural to treat such unverified rumours with a fair degree of scepticism.

The t!t's obviously gone in thee thinking he can put a spin on things , he has underestimated the depth of feeling by the fans. Whilst i don't condone spitting ,if he didn't understand before ,him and his father do now. What was he expecting ,a laugh and a joke after he got the ale in for the lads.

And if there's any truth in the rumours this time Saint, the same thing will happen again. While you are posting "laughable" stories, are listening to WUM's and the like at the moment, it's amazing how these things which are currently laughable can suddenly become the accepted gospel.

I mean, "how the feck are we supposed to launch a title challenge while the owners are talking to Klinnsmann in America" (although we can of course launch a Champions league challenge under the same circumstances) could easily become "how the feck are we supposed to launch a title challenge while the captain and vice captain are trying to get a move". Don't shoot the messenger is an old adage which needs to be remembered, as is the fact that Saint is hardly the type of bloke to spam the forum with loads of sh!t, that's my job (thought I'd get that in before somebody else did  :D ).

If the rumours which refer to the discontent of Gerrard and Carragher have any truth in them, it will provide an interesting talking point come the end of the season. If they were both to ask for a move, would people take the "well they can feck off, we only want players who want to wear the shirt" route or would they look at the reasoning behind the moves?

For my part I don't think it will come to that. I've long suspected that a significant portion of the squad is split from the managers philosophy and effectively "lost", but I wouldn't have thought it will manifest itself into Gerrard probably and Carragher definately asking for a move. More likely I suspect is that they'll continue to do the best they can under the cuircumstances and wait to see what happens.

It is the perogative of every supporter of LFC to take all unsubstantiated stories with a huge pinch of salt, we have, after all been victims of one of the biggest media lies in history. So if some people would rather wait and see if any truth lies behind the headline, its hardly ironic to later respond to the story and its rammifications when for once its proven right. Wheres the irony in using the truth to explain our current situation?

There is a big difference between "waiting and seeing" and what some people seem to do with every rumour,  calling it rubbish AS SOON AS IT IS POSTED without any attempt to verify if there is any truth in it.

To vilify the posters and their posts, and then later to use those very same rumours ,once "proven" correct isn't just ironic its pathetic.

"Ciggy stop chatting pure sh it  plz." is not waiting and seeing, calling people who post rumours or rejecting their information as rubbish out of hand when most have posted because they are worried or to share information , then later using the same information as a defence for our poor season is not hypocritical?

Believe what you will, but when WUM'S ridicule a post or a poster, and later use those very same points to defend our season I think its pathetic myself.

Wheres the irony in using the truth to explain our current situation?

The irony is neither you nor I know what the truth is , all that has changed is the perceived view of a particular rumour has changed because Hicks made a statement. I don't know what was actually said between Hicks and Rafa - DO YOU ?

Well i don't remember vilifying anyone in regards to a posting of a newspaper story, unless ofcourse the paper in question is who you know. I think you are taking the criticism of articles you post personally, its not really a dig a you, but at the article, ~(unless you include wums). To call them rubbish on occassion is more likely to be true than not, especially when there are no quotes, or sources included. Does it really make a great deal of difference if someone posts ' I don't believe that' or ' thats a load of rubbish'??

When i said to comment on them once they are proven to be true, its quite simple, for example the Klinsmann story, which had been denied by the man himself and was without any proof, but which was later proven to be true for once, by Hicks own admission, therefore true. At no stage did i say i know what was being said in private. It is in no way hypocritical to rubbish a RUMOUR, if you think its improbable, at first and then to comment on it and understand it later, if its proven to have truth to it. In any case i think i've said enough, posters can choose to accept or dismiss stories as they like.

I suspect the type of fan the Hick´s family is familiar with state-side is less tribal than your average football fan in The Sandon. Naive mistake to say the least.

Liverpool's American owners set to sellOliver Kay
Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr, Liverpool’s American owners, are preparing to signal the beginning of the end of their regime at Anfield by granting Dubai International Capital (DIC) permission to examine the club’s accounts with a view to making an official takeover bid next month.

Hicks has consistently claimed that he has no intention of selling his 50 per cent stake in the club, but, while he plans to retain some of his shares and some of his influence at Anfield for the immediate future, face-to-face discussions with DIC officials in Dubai and, more significantly, London last week have brought a deal closer.

Although a final agreement is understood to be some weeks away, with the Americans eager to maximise their profits after a turbulent 12 months in control, sources in the United States have indicated that Hicks and Gillett are ready to indicate their willingness to sell by granting a period of due diligence to DIC, the private-equity investment arm of the Dubai Government.

Gillett, whose involvement with the club is now minimal, is expected to be the first to sell his 50 per cent stake, possibly by the middle of next month.

Hicks is likely to sell only part of his stake initially, leaving DIC in majority control of the club but retaining some interest and his place on the board, at least in the short term.

Hicks’s abrasive manner means that he is regarded as the most likely obstacle to any deal being completed, but discussions are said to be progressing “sensibly and professionally”, albeit slowly. Although Hicks could, in theory, buy Gillett’s stake in order to strengthen his own bargaining position, that is thought to be unlikely.

For now, no price has been agreed between DIC and either of the co-chairmen. The Americans, whose initial takeover just over 12 months ago was valued at £218.9 million, now put the club’s worth at more than £400 million, but £350 million of that figure would be swallowed by the debts incurred as a result of their recent refinancing deal. DIC would be reluctant to meet that valuation if, as remains the case, Liverpool are in danger of missing out on qualification for next season’s Champions League and the associated riches.

DIC’s plans for Liverpool are not yet clear beyond its eagerness to conduct a wide-ranging review of all departments of the club, but its arrival would be greeted enthusiastically by many supporters.

Welcomed by some as saviours in February last year, the Americans have attracted hostility not only by taking the club into debt - something that they pledged they would not do – but also by their treatment of Rafael BenÍtez, the manager, having held talks with Jürgen Klinsmann, the former Germany coach, about replacing him. There was also the embarrassment over their grandiose designs for a new stadium, which were unveiled amid fanfare in July only to be dropped owing to spiralling costs less than five months later.

Tom Hicks Jr, who was invited to join his father on the board, was confronted angrily by some supporters when he visited a pub near Anfield on Saturday. He claimed yesterday that he “had several constructive conversations” during his visit and that he hoped to “follow up with them next time I am in Liverpool”.

By contrast, Gillett’s son, Foster, who was initially dispatched to Merseyside to liaise between BenÍtez and the owners, has spent the past month in Montreal, apparently with no plans to return. BenÍtez has attempted to build bridges with Hicks in the meantime, but now it seems that power at Anfield is about to be transferred to Dubai.

That doesnt mean anything, all it is Oliver Kays ramblings because he has nothing else to do.

Oliver kay is one of the few respected journo's about mate. I personally don't think he would put an artical like that in the times if it was ramblings. There's defo some substance to it mate imo . Agreed saint about hicks still having a share in the club , he's goto go asap with the other clown
