So who do you want to replace him ?

The fans, even the die hard Rafa fans, need to be realistic now and see that continuing with Rafa is doing more harm than good.

They say its the players, the board, etc but at which point in the calendar when another season has gone dismally do you start to blame the manager.

At the end of the day it is his job to motivate, regardless of the boardroom problems, he should be able to shield the team from these things. But he obviously cannot.

Thanks Rafa, we'll be forever indebted to you for the success you brought but now is the time for you hang up your hat.

Time for a new era under a different manager....

What started out as a season where we all thought - including alleged experts (pundits, to the uninitiated !) - we had possibly built a squad good enough to compete on all fronts, now boils down to a season which hinges on an almost impossible task. Taking on Inter over two legs...Inter, possibly the strongest team in Europe at the moment, leaders by a country mile in one of the most technically gifted leagues in the world, if not THE most gifted leagues....
I don't see us having a hope truth be told.
We COULD have had a chance at some silverware, were it not for the incredible tinkering by this man. I'm no Premier League manager, but one thing looks and sounds very reasonable to me : you put your best team on the pitch, week in week out. And this man has not.

But far from blaming the man alone, there's no question in my mind that the 11 on the pitch as a unit (he says, tongue in cheek) don't have the heart, the bottle or the commitment to win matches.

I could go on at length selecting individuals who, it seems to me, are more interested in picking up a very healthy pay cheque at the end of the week than giving their all on the pitch. A bunch of prima donnas on the pitch. Thank God, I don't get to fly over every week, 'cos aside from the cost of watching a bunch of inept players, I don't think my ticker could take it.

Hopelessly disillusioned,
Bungle

I wouldn't give up hope mate. Inter may be a good side but so are we on our day. In a game like this we probably have as good a chance as anyone. I honestly believe we will beat Inter tomorrow, whether or not we can win the game over two legs I am not so sure, but if anyone can, we can.

When you have players like Gerrard, Masch and Torres in your team you are always in with a chance.

Mate, we can dream and dream....but I believe we're gonna be railroaded by a reality check called Inter Milan.
There's no belief amongst the players on the pitch; there's no attitude of "we deserve to win"; there's an apathy that starts right from the front (I really do believe Crouch is playing in almost sulk-like manner at the moment)...

Jose Mourinho

Has proven himself to be a great manager, three years no home defeat in league, two wins and one runner up in the league, won CL at Porto, and he is available

The man is a winner. :buttrock

Here's a question for those asking for Mourinho:

Do you think he can win us the Premiership if he only gets £20m-£30m total to spend?

why would he want to manage under G&H? especially considering the circumstances in which he left Chelsea

Klinnsman has done nothing - isn't he committed elsewhere anyway?

Kenny is a sentimental choice - I think our slide started in his reign, anyway he's been out of the game too long.

Rafa has spent big - forget talk of £20m per year - he has spent a fortune. Okay, not as much as Chelsea .

Jose has an aura of a winner, all the chelsea players who won nothing under Ranieri (Lampard, duff, Terry etc) said that Jose made them feel like second place in the league is failure. He didn't do the pathetic rotation cr*p that Benitez does.

Rafa will be gone by the start of next season (thankfully),

At the moment I think anyone would be better than Raffa - There are an awful lot of titty-lips hanging around Anfield at the moment and players and management are looking to offload the blame.
Most of this sulking comes from Raffa CONTINUALLY making choices that the players don't agree with. All very well and good if it comes off and he looks like a great manager but when he keeps showing the same failings time after time, the workforce are going to swing the lead.

Who to replace him ? There are not many about and the boardroom will have the biggest effect on who we could get.
(1) Luiz Scolari. Knows the European game as well as anyone and brings through players with a team attitude.
(2) Dunga.  Not impressed with the big shot players but seems willing to bring on good attacking young players from the smaller clubs around the world. Certainly turned over Argentina  brilliantly last year.
(3) Mourinho. If we are only going to look at "nice guys" then we might as well give up. Having an edge isn't a bad thing. Stevie Gerrard seemed quite prepared to play under him not so long ago.

I would stick with Benitez for now

but if he ends up leaving then my 2 choices are:

1) Guus Hiddink
2) Marcelo Lippi

you should know niall, that contracts mean nothing today, when money does the talking

1. yeah, klinnsman has done nothing, i agree, but his name is big in football, and even the yanks have heard of him :D

2. the slide happened when souness took over

3. sad to say (as we had a go at him at chavski), mourinho will be at lfc come the new season. imo

or maybe lee has the answer
thats judging by what most spout on here :D
