What does Barcelona's form in Spain have anything to do how they play in Europe? Absolutely nothing.

As far as I can remember we were losing to the likes of Southampton,Crystal Palace and Birmingham but also beating Chelsea,Juventus and Milan that year.

Do not look too much into their domestic results, they aren't European champions for nothing.

What would you rather have?

Them on top form in the league when we play them or in poor form?

It's a no-brainer.

It's a no-brainer.

- Chelsea were 39 points ahead of us before we play them and in fine form. We beat them, domestic form ment nothing in those two games.

- Juventus were in fine form and only conceding two goals in Europe before we play them. They were on top of Serie A when we played them and eventually won the league. Their domestic form ment nothing in the two games we played in.

- Milan were horrible for several weeks before we played them but they outplayed us in the first 45 minutes and scored three goals.

We lost 3-0 to Everton, 3-0 to Arsenal, 2-0 to Man Utd and Bolton and to Chelsea this year. Also drew with Sheffield,Boro and Pompey.

So we won't beat Barcelona then will we?

We could go unbeaten up until we play Barca and still lose to them. It makes no difference what we do in our domestic league to what we do in Europe. We proved that already.

As I said one weekend we went from losing to Palace to beating Juventus.

The fact of the matter is that our game is two months away and people are looking into a result with Atletico Madrid. By then they could be in fine form, it doesn't matter either way really.

Because they could be in great form and come into our game thinking they will beat us easily and not get the result they wanted. Or they can come into the game with inconsistent form but a wounded animal is at it's worst.

What a bore.

The bottom line is Do you want us to play them when/if..

a) They are on top form in La Liga

b) Showing dogey form in La Liga

What's your answer? a or b AB?  :p

My answer choice is C) Doesn't matter.

They will be playing a lot better as Messi and Eto'o will be back by February anyways.

not too worried about messi but eto'o scares the life out of me, especially in the nou camp on such a big pitch with space to exploit in behind our slow back four.

messi won't last five minutes, once lucas neill arrives and boots him into row z. :D

It's a fair point actually. I forgot Blackburn have played in Europe this season.

Anyway back to the game, I agree its better quality football over in Spain than in the Premiership. Can you imagine Bolton or Boro over there? They would be murdered every week.

But La Liga teams hate hate hate being hasseled in every tackle. Everton are rubbish but came close to beating a very good spanish side by aggressive play nothing more. To beat them you need aggression and skill.

Spanish teams thrive with time on the ball, take that away and you have a very real chance.

Sitting back with 10 players behind the ball ala Ged's brand of defending is asking for trouble.

Rafa knows what to do, which is more than can ever be said of Ged.

I dont know why yous would rather have us instead of the mancs and arsenal because we are the best team out of all the english clubs in europe and ave seen more atmosphere on the moon than at the emirates, old trafford and stamford bridge.

Man Utd are currently a better team than you, and Arsenal have started to play their best football in Europe. So i see them as more dangerous than yourselves.

Like i said before, the atmosphere is not the defining factor in winning a game of football. If it were Chelsea wouldn't be without a defeat at the Bridge in 2 years or so.

Theres normal atmosphere and theres anfield. Barcelona players will :censored: themselves when they see the kop roaring like usual.

Ang on a minute St. - we did win the UEFA Cup under Houllier and knocking Barca out on the way (Reina in goal).

All this Houllier bashing goes a bit too far.

Up to 2002-2003 season he did tremendously well for us. Let's not forget that.

Anyway, enough of the grumpiness.

They were pressed quite a lot by Ath Madrid last night and it did work (so agree with you there!  :p )

We played boring football. Most fans appreciate the trophies Houllier won for us but would had preferred if we had done it with good football.

Under Houllier we were an absolute bore. The FA Cup final against Arsenal was a piece of sh!te. We woke up in the last ten minutes when Owen scored.

Compare and contrast that cup final to the one against the Hammers.

We played boring football against Barcelona when we knocked them out in the UEFA Cup and. We played them in the Champions League and got stuffed again by playing boring football.

Remember Valencia? Yea, they walked over us too at Anfield and at the Mastella. We played boring football. Rafa's Valencia gave us a lesson in how football should be played: pass and move, you know what we used to do in the glory days?

I appreciate everything Houllier did for this club but FFS you have to admit that our style of play was a definition of ''negative''.

or

B) Not winning a treble.
