Kuyt is one step closer to signingAug 16 2006

By Ian Doyle, Daily Post

DIRK KUYT has moved a step nearer to securing a move to Anfield after Feyenoord gave the striker permission to speak to Liverpool.

Reports in Holland claim the 26-year-old has already spoken with Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez, who outlined how his proposed plans for the striker this season.

Some stories circulating yesterday used old quotes from Kuyt to suggest the forward is eyeing a move to Newcastle United.

But the Holland international has informed Feyenoord of his desire to join Liverpool.

And now Kuyt, who is part of the Holland squad that will face the Republic of Ireland in a friendly in Dublin tonight, is waiting on Liverpool and Feyenoord to thrash out a fee, with the Dutch club still holding out for £10million.

Just says Kuyt has agreed terms with Liverpool, 10 million pound may rise due to clauses?
Feyenoord have their first game on sunday and must start looking straight away for a new forward.

nice ! hope he lives up to the expectations ! should be a good addition to the squad given the quality of our forwards ! still think we should have went for someone more experienced and proven at a better stage than the dutch league... but still think he'll make a decent signing !  good piece of business by rafa imo !

It seems the reports of Kuyt saying he preferred Newcastle and wanted to be a hero were false and circulated by some mischief loving wooly mammoth. The reality now seems to be that Kuyt is very near to becoming a Liverpool player though (as always) there seem to be a few  financial points to be thrashed out. So Kuyt NEVER SAID he preferred Newcastle--nor that he wanted to be a hero!

The thing about Kuyt is he is a really really hard worker, offers more mobility to the likes of Morientes from last season and Crouch is not the most active.
He covers ground like Sissoko maybe not as tough tackling,  but his work rate is second to none.
He will give us other options in attack is a proper team player, you will see why Rafa wants him so much, when he arrives.

Feyenoord clear the way for Kuyt to join Liverpool

The Holland forward looks set to join the Merseysiders if a transfer fee can be agreed with Dutch club

Dominic Fifield
Wednesday August 16, 2006

The Guardian

Dirk Kuyt is edging closer to joining Liverpool after reaching agreement with the Dutch club Feyenoord that he will be permitted to leave Rotterdam for Anfield once a fee has been thrashed out between the clubs.
Reports in Holland last night suggested the striker had already met the Merseysiders' manager, Rafael Benítez, to discuss the transfer though negotiations between the two clubs are understood to be ongoing. Funds are relatively tight at Anfield and, while Liverpool could offer Feyenoord a deal worth up to £10m for the international, they would look to stagger payments over the course of his contract.

Any lingering hopes Newcastle may have had of luring the 26-year-old to St James' Park appear to have been dashed with Kuyt telling the Feyenoord hierarchy he is only prepared to move to Liverpool. A desire to play in the Champions League was paramount in his thinking - the 2005 winners hold a slender advantage going into next week's second leg of their qualifying tie against Maccabi Haifa - with Benítez's interest in the former Utrecht forward long-standing.
The player's stance has denied the Dutch club the auction they hoped to instigate for their prize asset's signature, with the coach Erwin Koeman torn between his desire to raise as much money via a sale and resigned to the reality that the club will hardly benefit from retaining a player who is anxious to leave. The striker is currently in Ireland preparing for this evening's friendly against the Republic at Lansdowne Road and is hopeful his future will be resolved imminently.

While Kuyt's impact at the recent World Cup finals was a disappointment, the forward failing to score in any of his three appearances, he has proved himself one of the most prolific forwards on the continent in recent seasons. He scored 22 times last season and boasts 71 in 101 league games since moving to De Kuip three years ago.

Kuyt had hoped to move to the Premiership last summer but was persuaded to wait another season, not least by the Dutch coach Marco van Basten, with Feyenoord agreeing to review his situation after the World Cup. He was duly allowed extra time to consider his options before returning to pre-season training last month and, despite being handed the club captaincy and enjoying cult status among the Feyenoord fans, he has now set his heart upon the switch to Merseyside.

yup...our forward line is looking soft now and we desperately need him to sign as soon as possible.... the beggining of the season is the most important time imo... if we can get a good form goin, winning all our games against the 'easier' oppositions and topping the table along with the other 3 top teams...i think we can go far this season...
On some other thread....i read that liverpool's start of last season is what cost them the title.... befor the chelsea game we lost (4-1) we had 7 points while chelsea had 21  ! after that game, we went on to collect 75 points while chelsea only manager 67 ! that was the time where Crouch couldnt manage to get on the scoresheet ! if we get a good striker.. start him and he melds well with the squad we got.... can see us mounting a serious title challenge !
High hopes on Kuyt...hope he can liveup to all the hype !
Personally, i thought he was a player that we'd sign and play him for some time before getting the best of him ! not quite what we need at the moment but still looks a good signing in a vital time ! if he signs that is....hope he does !
