Does raffer play his cards tp late - Does his hand get pushed

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

HI Guys

Firstly This is my first post so go easy, Well, does Raffer play his cards too late to get his targets. I think this is to be true as  we are only looking at one big transfer sooner or like last summer not at all ,concerning the end. If a Big player is to come, it would have to be soon for the selling club to replace the big star. For eg benfica not willing to let there player leave for 12 mill as no replacement last summer.

Raffer needs to go out all guns otherwise its another rubbish window. He is streetwise so we have to trust him but i would up the anti sooner or risk going bust and leave empty handed. I know the money issue is relevant but we have shown we can compete with the best so the backing should come quicker and 2 million more or so for raffers first choice needs to be obtained.

Cheers lads and girls what do you think  :pirate

No.

Talks began with Luis Figo in early June but because there were certain things obstacles, it went on for so long. Then we were interested in Stelios and Solano. In the last couple of days we tried to get Simao. It wasn't that we waited too long, it's that the first deal took too long and we ended up with nobody. Figo changed his mind and went to Milan.

For eg benfica not willing to let there player leave for 12 mill as no replacement last summer.

The deal in the summer was almost complete. In fact Simao passed his medical with US, but whilst he was on the plane on his way back, Benfica hiked up the price and we disagreed on it.

The initial price was 8 million, they changed it to 10 million at the last minute.

This situation with Agger is quite simple. We agreed on 5.5. million, they're changing the price and Benitez may not value Agger at a reported 7 million. Tottenham are supposedly now interested but the player seems to want to sign with us.

We also placed an 8 million bid on a right winger, Alves. But it was turned down by Sevilla and they want more, probalby around 15 million which is too much.

basically, to support what AB said, Rafa allow himself to be ripped off.  Why should we pay an extra 2-3 million, just because the other club feels like it???  I imagine rafa says "this is what we'll pay, you can take it or we'll leave it"
“You cannot transfer the heart and soul of Liverpool Football Club, although I am sure there are many clubs who would like to buy it.”

Exactly. Under Houllier, we would give in to the demands of the clubs. I.e. the 10 million pounds we payed for Diouf, the 14 million we payed for Cisse, the 5 million we payed for Diao

As frustrating as it can be, Rafa's methods are the right ones.
Gone are the days when we pay 3 times a player's true worth just to save some scouting.

Although it's painful mentioning, the fact that we bought Diouf for 10 million and sold him for 1.5-2[nobody was interested other than Bolton and they couldn't offer more than that] million says it all about Houllier's transfer policy. He did make good buys, however the poor buys have costed us too much financially.

Sure Benitez has made signings that didn't work out but they've costed us peanuts and have been shipped out. Where as Houllier's signings who were poor were deadwood in the club.

Indeed A.B.

Some of Houllier's cack is still found on the training pitch and even playing for us!!!!

Traore and Diao (Back from loan in Jan), for example.

Houllier's failed signings, and combined amount paid:

Diouf, Diao, Cheyrou, Ferri, Le Tellec, Medjani, Daniel Sjolund, Vignal, Christian Ziege, Nick Barmby, Bernard Diomede, Heskey, Meijer, Smicer, Titi Camara, Sander Westerveld, Frode Kippe and Rigobert Song, Chris Kirkland (injuries).

19 players who for one reason or another were bad signings for LFC.
Some were injured, some were over priced, some never played, some only lasted a year.

Virtually ALL of them were sh*t. Not one of the useless b*stards in the above list would get in our team now, save for Ziege in his Middlesborough/AC Milan days.

Their combined transfer total?

Are you ready?

£70,650,000.00

F*cking wasted on sh*t.

Add to these players the ones who were classed as flops under Houllier, but have sinced proved otherwise:

Kewell £5m
Biscan £5.5m
Finnan £3.5m
Baros £3.2m
Pongolle £2.5m. That's another £20.2m wasted.

£90,850,000.00

And all this is only up to the summer of 2003!!!!! Unbelievable!

His good signings (at least during his management.):

Hyypia £2.65m
Henchoz £3.5m
Hamann £8m
Gary Mac - Free
Markus Babbel - Free
Jari Litmanen - Free
John-Arne Riise - £4.6m
Dudek £4.85m
Nicolas Anelka - Loan

Total: £23,600,000.00

Shocking.

A total outlay of £114,450,000.00, not including wages, or certain other signings such as Luzi Bernardi (I cannot find how much he, or the others cost).

And some people are busy questioning Benitez's style of negotiations!!!!!

??? :D  :D

I think you may have missed out Alou Diarra...maybe a couple more?

It is amazing how Houllier have cost the club so much and his transfer policy is so p1ssed poor

Imagine if Benitez had that kind of money at his disposal, first of all he wouldn't had spend half of that, but more importantly we would have had a great squad.

I decided not to mention him as we made a tidy profit on him.
He was a free transfer from Beyern Munich, but we sold him for £3.1m I believe.

Thanks for mentioning him though!!!!!

Ok benni is seen as shrewed but he never says yes thats what player i want ie like maureen and frergi and then that allows the player to put pressure on the club which makes these deals take place. Benni keeps his plans mostly to his chest and we and the outside world arnt the wiser. Look what the media pressure did to us in the summer with gerrard, he almost left. Benni does not use the media enough and leaves it to late:p

I felt sick writing those numbers down.

Can you honestly believe that Houllier's transfer activity produced 9 good signings, and 24 piles of sh*t!?!

Add to that Luzi Bernardi, Peggy Arphexad (neither were bought as 1st choice, though), Diarra and all the other gimps from the lower French Leagues, and those stats aren't a favourable reflection on "Le EX-Boss".

At least 26 players signed who were or are regarded as failures.

Good luck Lyon, you sorry b*stards.
