So it looks like we're signing the six and a half foot rake from 'arry Redknapp and everyone thinks Rafa has gone all Gerrard Houllier on us, signing over priced, mediocre sh!te that would normally befit the Dogs of War from across the park..
Strange though, dont yer think? That the same people who are quick to right off the "16 goals in 5 months wonder", are the one's who lay into the more classy, catwalk esque attacking players we have. I mean, we've brought in foreign players before who have done it all in other leagues, we have Euro2004's Golden boot winner, the season before lasts CL top scorer, and a £14m French striker who could well turn out to be anything between the next Emile Heskey and the next Thierry Henry..
So does it not seem feasable that while these high profile, goodlookers from abroad, with more ball skills than a Soho hooker, have hardly set the Premiership on fire yet, a big towering, lumbering number from good old England, might just prove to be the catalyst we need or in the very least what we need to tackle those mid December away games on muddy pitches at the likes of Wigan, Sunderland etc??
Who would you rather have? The next John Toshack or the new El Hadji Diouf?? I've heard and seen it all before, how Kewell, Diouf, Morientes, Cisse, Heskey etc were the missing links, the 20 goal a seasoners, the big man we've needed upfront or the new playmakers..
Well on the evidence so far, the big, ugly lamppost has as good a chance as any of writing himself into the illustrious LFC history books.
Just a thought like.
If he becomes a red, then lets treat him like one eh..
