he wont be on the payroll as an employee but will be getting some sort of fee as a consultant. non exec or independent director are pretty much the same thing imo.  hopefully he has some sort of input into how the club progresses and not just a face to help sell corporate tickets.
all hail the king  :buttrock

Say what you like about our owners. They make the right noises.

Non-executive directors do get a salary. Normally a nominal amount (in comparison to executive directors) - something between £30-£60K per year.

Kenny may be getting more but it would be an exception to the rule if so. Interestingly note that non executive means part time, he won't be involved in running the club on a day to day basis.

Sounding board for people. No decision making power but FSG and Rodgers can go to him for an opinion and to discuss ideas. Non execs are normally people with a vast amount of experience and knowledge but either don't want to or are not able to commit to being involved day in day out. Perfect move in my opinion and should have been done many years ago.

Come to think about it, I don't think that will be his role. Nod could if be.
A sounding board for the current manager for new ideas? When the current manager's thinking is decades more current than KK's? Isn't KK a bit more out of touch than Rodgers so what benefit would if bring?
There has to be another function than the above...

he`ll perform the same role as the likes of charlton at united and beckenbauer at bayern i imagine, whenever there`s a function or some sort of uefa meeting or sponsors party he`ll turn up and represent the club.
whenever these suits that own multi national companies have a do they want to see famous faces there, they dont want to see the club sending suits pretty much like themselves (but just wearing a liverpool badge), they want to see great names from their generation. it impresses their mates at canary wharf.

Unfortunately Sir Kenny has announced that he is undergoing treatment for cancer.  No doubt he'll face it like the true champion he is.
Good bless, Kenny, wish you a full and speedy recovery.

Football legend Kenny Dalglish reveals he has cancer

Liverpool posted a message saying: "We are all with you, Sir Kenny", while ex-England captain Alan Shearer added: "Everyone is with you, Kenny."

Tuesday 2 June 2026 13:02, UK

Football legend Sir Kenny Dalglish has revealed he has cancer.
The former Liverpool and Scotland star announced he was undergoing treatment in a post to his Instagram followers.
He said he had previously shared an "inadvertent social media post" indicating his diagnosis, blaming his "useless technology skills", and asked for privacy.

He wrote: "As my inadvertent social media post has indicated, I am currently undergoing treatment for cancer.
"Unlike my mobile phone use, the treatment is going well.
"Ideally, this would have remained private because that's the way it should be, but my useless technology skills have forced my hand.
"I did not mean to make this matter public so I would appreciate it if the privacy of my family and myself are respected.

As ever, thank you to the wonderful medical staff who have shown incredible care and discretion, not just for me but for many, many others. They are a credit to themselves."

In a response, Liverpool FC posted a message saying: "We are all with you, Sir Kenny."
Ex-England captain and Match Of The Day pundit Alan Shearer added: "Everyone is with you, Kenny."
Sir Kenny's son Paul, a former footballer himself, wrote: "Love you Dad. You got this."
Former Liverpool players, Lucas Leiva and Sander Westerveld, responded to the post, with Leiva simply posting a series of heart emojis.

Westerveld wrote "YNWA", a reference to the Liverpool anthem You'll Never Walk Alone, which featured in many of the comments.
Dalglish scored 172 goals for Liverpool in 13 seasons as a player, winning six league titles and three European Cups during the Merseyside club's glory years.
He later took charge as manager, guiding the Anfield side to three league titles and two FA Cups in the 1980s.
He made 320 appearances for Celtic before moving to Anfield in 1977, scoring 167 goals and played 102 times for Scotland.

Kevin Keegan, another prolific former Liverpool forward, whom Dalglish was signed to replace, revealed on Monday that he has stage four cancer.

This breaking news story is being updated and more details will be published shortly.
