It sounds like Simon Mignolet will join so it's likely Reina will move on despite what he and Rodgers say. I'm sure it will all be sorted after the confederations cup but I think Valdes will move on and Reina will replace him. He was much better in the second half of last season but his standards have slipped over the last 3 years.

was there ever any interest from barca ? or is it just that pepe just answered some reporters question asking would he like to someday return to where it started ?.
we can talk about competition all we want but that kind of money is a lot to spend to leave on the bench so id fully expect mignolet to start the season while pepe looks on and unless he has a mare of a start it will remain that way.
goalkeepers improve with age and pepe is just entering his prime so i dont think we should be looking to replace him and would be better off getting better defenders at this point in time. he has 3 years to run so we have plenty of time to seek a replacement.

If we are spending 12mil on Mignolet then Pepe must be going ! Pepe sitting on the bench won't go down well with a lot of people.

It's ok guys don't worry... I've heard from a reliable source that Pepe is staying and he will be playing as a CB next season...

It all makes sense now...

Whether Pepe will be staying or not with the imminent arrival of Mignolet, it will all be good for Liverpool. If he stays and with Mignolet around, he'll be forced to move up one gear and regain his Rafa days form again. If he goes or sitting on the bench, we have a new blood between the goal posts who is good and is determined to impress and repay BR for signing him. So it's good to watch for the fans. They are all multi millionaire footballers anyway, why should we care, the Suarez saga has killed off my love for footballers in general. I only love the club.

Its time for Pepe to move on, his body language was all wrong last season. He knows it, the club knows it and I know it.

Pepe Reina and Simon Mignolet claim they are ready to fight it out for Liverpool’s No 1 spot.

Liverpool hope to complete Mignolet’s £11million signing from Sunderland this week and the Belgian international is prepared to go head-to-head with Reina.

Reina, who is a target for his old club Barcelona, welcomed Mignolet’s impending arrival and says he intends to continue as Liverpool’s first-choice keeper.

“It has not changed a bit,” said the Spaniard at the Confederations Cup in Brazil. “I have said it many times, I’m very comfortable and very happy at Liverpool.

“Every team needs competitors, and when it’s positive it is more than welcome. If it is finally done, I’ll welcome him a lot and anything he needs, I’m here.”

Brendan Rodgers is understood to have reservations about Reina and Mignolet’s agent Guy Vandermissen says the Sunderland No 1 is not coming to Anfield to sit on the bench.

“I know the qualities of Simon and he can cope with any competition, it is no problem,” said Vandermissen.

“We hope that there can be a deal and he can go to Liverpool.

“If you go from Sunderland to Liverpool it is a big step forward. You have to make decisions at certain times.”

Mignolet believes joining Liverpool would boost his chances of becoming Belgium’s regular goalkeeper and he is undeterred by the Reds failing to make Europe next season.

“When you play Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal every week, this is European football, so what is the problem?” said Vandermissen

Will be interesting and even if Pepe does regain form he was pretty injury prone last season (For a keeper) so I expect Mignolet will get his chances to impress

It's a strange transfer if Pepe isn't going

I agree with ya there benny, seems bizarre to spend £11m/£12m on a keeper 'just in case' Pepe leaves but unless the club know the definate outcome for Pepe Reina then I guess we are left a touch bemused.

seems a bit strange alright but Reina keeps hinting at leaving and the sight of Brad Jones between the sticks terrifies me each time he plays.

Still a bit baffled as to what kind of squad we'll have in place come August 17th

maybe he will be brought in and told he will be no 2 when he reports back for preseason. the clubs way of telling him to feck off.
no way will he be allowed to sit on the bench with the wage he's earning and it looks to me that this is what the motivation was in signing mignolet. £3mil a year is whats being mooted as saved in wages.
is he even any better of a keeper ? another overpriced signing IMO and like allen and borini we could have got them for half the price a year later.

I don't think Mignolet is a better gk.

But he is on cheaper wages.

i dont think he is better either and its a rash decision on our behalf at this time.
he is reported to be on 110k which isnt a lot for a keeper of his experience.
