Always on the cards after Mignolet signed and Reina has been way below his best form for Liverpool the last year or two.

May do well at Napoli and beyond as sometimes a fresh start can work wonders but he had gone off the boil here and is
on top dollar for a keeper turned 30.

A loan? maybe no one wants to buy him right now, he's been poor.

I'm sorry but I can't understand why people are saying he has been poor ? Can we see some sort of evidence to back it up ?

Lets not also forget how exposed he was early last season by the set up of the high line and the season before he was part of the defensive line that was one of the tightest in the prem ?

Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina set to join Napoli on season-long loan
• Reina to link up again with former manager Rafael Benítez
• Liverpool signed Simon Mignolet from Sunderland in June
guardian.co.uk, Friday 19 July 2013 23.42 BST
Liverpool's Pepe Reina is set to link up with his former manager Rafael Benítez at Napoli on a season-long loan deal.

The Spanish goalkeeper's place at Anfield had looked increasingly uncertain since Liverpool signed Simon Mignolet for £9m from Sunderland in June and the prospect of having one of the club's highest earners on the bench appears to have forced a decision.

The Spaniard had been given time off after the Confederations Cup and was due to fly to Australia to link up with the Liverpool squad on their pre-season tour. The academy keeper Danny Ward will instead travel to Melbourne as back-up to Mignolet and Brad Jones.

Benítez turned to Reina after being frustrated in his attempts to sign Julio Cesar on a season-long loan deal from Queens Park Rangers.

he will be off to barca next season for little or nothing  .

once mingolet came in for that amount of money it was always on the cards that reina would be leaving but to be fair to the club i dont think this situation was of their making.
the media speculation linking reina with barcelona (and reina not exactly distancing himself from a move back to spain) forced liverpools hand somewhat, a few weeks ago the echo reported that reina`s agent told rodgers and ayre in a meeting to expect an £8m bid from barca (this was when valdes seemed to be on his way to monaco) so the club had to act.
it`s probably the end of reina`s career here as he will no doubt join barcelona when valdes moves on next season.
good luck for the future pepe, you have been a tremendous servant to the club and up their with the likes of clemence, scott and brucey as one of the best keepers in our history.

so why didnt he leg it when according to you they were interested then?

Because Barca pulled out of the deal when Valdes decided to stay for another season. You probably didn't read his statements when Barca were interested.

come on, are we really supposed to believe that we bought mignolet because of an impending bid.
it still doesn't explain why he is gone on loan to napoli other than its because he was told he was no 2 next season or they just want him gone because of his wages.
this is a big change from we signed mignolet to give pepe competition

never read anything concrete about any barca interest. just pepe answering some journos question about whether or not he would like to return there someday. i have read many statements from pepe though saying that he is perfectly happy here.
anyway he's off to napoli now on loan so i guess he couldnt wait to get out quick enough

Loan?! What the hell? Are we that concerned with wages now? I think we've bought a better keeper in the long term in Mignolet but Pepe would have offered us that stability if he struggled settling in. It was obvious that the new guy was going to be the mainstay in the long term but this seems a bit risky if you ask me. That said ever since the stuff in his book about Arsenal I've never fully taken to him

Thanks for everything Pepe and all the best

Adios Pepe, I guess it not surprising as Mignolet and Reina in same squad had all hallmarks of longevity as Houllier/Evans managerial partnership

Despite his patchy form of late, I think we lost another character from dressing room

Always remember shows of support for club while on duty with national team
