Sigh, what a dumb move. There is no way in **** we got endless amount of money so to spend 10 million on a keeper when we already have one who isn't likely to move on is madness.
Having 2 10 million keepers is madness.  :no

it said in the echo a couple of weeks ago that rodgers and ayre were told by reina`s agent to expect a bid of around £8m for reina before the summer was out.
i guess the club are just reacting to that, i doubt we will have 2 top goalies at the club come the start of the season.

I think the club are looking to push Pepe out, another case of getting rid of the high earners ? I' read that Pepe is on around £110k a week.

Meanwhile Pepe said earlier this week
Pepe Reina insists he is happy at Liverpool, but has not entirely closed the door on the prospect of a move away from Anfield this summer.

Barcelona have been constantly linked with a move for the 30-year-old goalkeeper, who is currently on international duty with Spain at the Confederations Cup in Brazil, while Liverpool are reportedly on the verge of signing Sunderland stopper Simon Mignolet.

But it seems as if Reina is in no rush to leave his settled life on Merseyside.

"I'm very happy and satisfied at Liverpool, I feel valued and respected," he told Spanish radio station Onda Cero. "Logically, if there was a chance to improve and go to a bigger club it would be a good opportunity, although there are few clubs bigger than Liverpool.

"My situation is clear. I have a three-year contract with Liverpool and although in football you can never tell, the best option for my family is for me to stick with Liverpool."

Pepe's feeling of being valued and respected may of course change now that the signing of Mignolet is completed.

Expect a 5 million bid from Barca 31th of August.
Which we will have little choice but to accept.

IT IS NOT acceptable to LFC that it's players keep constantly saying to the press, "I'm happy here but would be thrilled if Barca or RM came around".

Our looking for options in such a circumstance is well justified and cannot be put down to removing high earners.

Don't you guys see that Pepe will jump to the first opportunity to leave for Barca? It's really obvious to me looking at his statements. Signing Mignolet was a good thing imo. Expensive maybe, but a goalie had to be signed.

I agree with an earlier post that the club are looking to force Reina out.

He's been a terrific keeper for us but that edge has gone from him in last couple of years
and that's possibly down to having it too easy at Liverpool and he has become complacent.

He might be alright at a club like Barcelona where keepers have little to do, but most sides
need a goalie who can win them games and frankly Reina has not done that for us for a long
time now, quite the opposite in fact, he has cost us big points.

Under Rafa he was good but since Rafa left he has been erratic and commit the occasional goalkeeping howlers starting with the own goal in Roy's first game in charge. We do need a new blood who is out to impress between the sticks and I believe Mignolet is the one who can do it.

If we are spending £12mil on a gk and forcing out Pepe then I would prefer they looked at Begovic

I don't really look at as "Forcing Pepe out"  I look at it as being proactive.  Signing Mignolet is a smart move, although a rather expensive one, It will make the agent's job pretty clear.  Have the player stay and truly have competition for his place for the first time in 6 years, or have Barca put their money where their mouth is.  The move puts us in a position where we are comfortable either way.

As far as the Begovic v Mignolet thing.  Begovic is a great shot stopper, Mignolet is not far behind.  Mignolet is better on the ball and his distribution is pretty damn impressive.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

Begovic is a bit more of a physical presence in the box - very good under the high ball and with crosses

got to say I haven't seen both Begovic or Mignolet much...but if like you said, he is more comfortable on the ball and distributes better, that may be the reason why Brendan went for him, not to mention that Begovic will probably cost us twice as much

Say, if we have both Mignolet and Reina with us at the start of next season, do you think that Brendan will start with Mignolet as the new #1 first, just because Reina has been looking for a way to leave us, and that he will now need to fight to take back his starting place? What do you think?
